Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, his Kebbi State counterpart, Saidu Dakingari and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, were conspicuously absent at the national honours ceremony where President Goodluck Jonathan conferred award on 313 Nigerians and friends of the country.Fayemi, who was to be honoured with the Commander of the Order of Niger, neither showed up nor sent any representative to the ceremony on his behalf.Similarly, Kebbi state governor, Saidu Dakingari did not show up at the event, which took place at the International Christian Centre, Abuja. No reason was given for his action.

 Pastor Ayo oritsejafor had yesterday explained his own side of the story over the alleged 9.3m dollars scandal. While exonerating himself at an emergency meeting of the expanded National Executive Council, NEC, of CAN in Abuja, Pastor Oritsejafor said he had no knowledge of the deal to buy arms in South Africa, noting that enemies of Christians were fuelling the division of CAN. He however admitted that the aircraft used in the said transaction was his own.

 At least 500 houses were destroyed in the Kubi and Watu villages in Michika Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, after suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded the community in a recent attack. Members of the community have however cried out over the complete absence of military personnel in Michika and its environs, saying it was responsible for the heavy damage done to their villages.

 Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana has faulted the explanation given by CAN over the alleged use of Oritsejafor’s private jet in the 9.3m dollars arm deal. Falana said that by the provisions of CAMA, the jet which was allegedly registered for the facilitation of evangelism could not be leased to another company for commercial purpose.

The Federal High Court on Monday ordered the Department of State Services to apologise to a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, and to pay him N2 million in damages for unlawful detention.

This followed the events of November 15 and 16 2013, during the last Anambra governorship elections, when DSS officials detained and harassed Mr. El-Rufai at the Finotel in Awka.

Dissatisfied with his treatment, and believing that the conduct of the DSS had no basis in law, Mr. El-Rufai approached the court for redress.

Despite the defection of Chief Tom Ikimi to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has told President Goodluck Jonathan that it is impossible for him to recapture the State.

Oshiomhole, who was reacting to a recent boast by President Jonathan that the PDP would take over Edo state next year and 2016, said it was unfortunate that the President was being deceived by PDP leaders in the state.

The governor, who spoke through his Political Adviser, Hon Charles Idahosa, said the President should have checked how many persons defected with Ikimi to the PDP.
