President Jonathan Says Election Rigging Days Are Over.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
DAYS WHEN POLITICANS CAN MANIPULATE OUTCOME OF  ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA ARE GONE FOREVER - PRESIDENT JONATHAN
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan declared Monday in Washington DC that the days when a few politicians, acting in concert with their hirelings and thugs, can hijack voters cards and other electoral materials, and manipulate the outcome of elections to their personal advantage are gone forever in Nigeria.

Speaking at a meeting with Nigerian professionals in the United States, President Jonathan said that he remained fully committed to keeping the promise he made in 2011 that he will do everything possible to ensure that the elections in Nigeria become very free, fair and credible.
The President assured the gathering that in keeping with that pledge which has been fulfilled in recent elections in Edo, Ondo and Ekiti States, the Federal Government will take all necessary steps to ensure that no individual, group or political party is able to thwart the legitimate choice of genuine voters in Saturday's  governorship election in Osun State.
"The issue of credible elections must be institutionalised in Nigeria. Our electoral processes were not very good or credible when we came into office, but as I promised, we have been working very hard to change things and ensure that our elections are more credible, that every legitimate vote counts and that results are acceptable to the electorate.
"I promise you that the Osun governorship elections will be very free, fair and credible," President Jonathan told the gathering while responding to questions and comments on topical issues in Nigeria.
Responding to other concerns raised by the Nigerian professionals, the President said that the Federal Government will continue to give the highest possible priority to policies and programmes that will lead to the creation of enough jobs for Nigerian youth.
"Job creation is a challenge to every government in the world. We are doing all that we can to tackle the problem in Nigerian because we know that we have a very youthful population and if we do not create enough jobs to meet their needs, the country will be in trouble," he said.
President Jonathan also spoke of his administration's efforts to improve standards and access to educational institutions in Nigeria, address the national housing deficit and further empower women.
He thanked Nigerian professionals abroad for the patriotic support for his government and urged them to continue to show love and concern for the well-being of their fatherland.
"We expect you continue to add more value to what we are doing and we will continue to engage your services and expertise when we can, because if we do not, the valuable education and skills you have acquired will be of no benefit to the development of our country," he said.
The President later received and commended young Nigerians who are participating in the Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, a leadership  programme sponsored by the United States government to  train young African professionals in American universities, government departments and private sector.
Out of the 500 places on the programme, 45 were won by young Nigerians in a competitive selection process.

  5. Super dupa story!
    Credible election is impossible Sir,
If you do not cub the level of poverty and unemployment in Nigeria
They might not hijack ballot papers and other materials,
But they pay huge amount of money to buy ballot papers from electoral officers(made up of mostly corp members who aint even sure of employment opportunity after service year)
Thumb print by themselves thus inflating their candidates no. of votes

This practice is common in rural areas especial in the North

Abeg Adontire Nig mata dey give headache

    Good morning everyone!

  9. Story na TODAY. Mr Reuben I think you should drop all this your long press release everyday because 90% of Nigerians don't have access to internet talk less of reading all this long grammar. Ask your boss to focus his actions on the real deal Ebola, Terrorism, Corruption among his fellow elites and workers including himself, Chibok kids are now our upcoming female terrorist, light and bad road. They should postpone election for now until Nigeria is stable because a lot are going wrong with our dear country.

  10. Indeed! After decorating the whole of the State of Osun with soldiers and mopol on 2nd August for ordinary campaign, alas putting fear in the people of the state to go about with their day to day transactions. Even my sister inlaw's wedding was almost cancelled due to the fear of safety of guest coming from far and wide. On 1st August, the so called security personal hit my father inlaw's vehicle and still made him pay for the repair of theirs, despite seeing him as an old man. Due to the harassment, oppression and fear, they had to call guests not to come for the wedding. After loads of prayers, the wedding later started in the afternoon with few guests that they couldn't reach on phone and people within.

P.S: I'm not a member of any party o, just a concerned citizen.

My father inlaw's major filling station was demolished by the present government (not because it was obstructing or anything but because the occupied space was needed in the present development of the state ). At 1st we all felt sad and all but after seeing the major development in the space and around, we had no other choice but to sing praise.
By saying there will be no rigging is a big fat Nigerian lie as it is obvious that they are intimidating people of the state so they don't come out to vote in order for them to have enough empty ballot papers to tamper with. Just as it was done in Ekiti.
