Burna Boy gets new name.

Nigerian dance-hall singer, Burna Boy, who recently sacked his mother as his manger, has been blessed with a new name. He is now known as the baddest singer in the Nigerian music scene.

Presidency lasts Northern leaders over Ultimatum 
The Presidency has  lambasted the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for the October ultimatum given to President Goodluck Jonathan. The group had demanded that the President successfully retrieve the over 200 Chibok girls and crush the Boko Haram sect before October or forfeit his 2015 electoral ambition. In a response the Senior Special Assistant to the President Dr Doyin Okupe said that the President did not require such threats to effectively carry out his responsibilities. He says Government is taking measures which include acquiring better military equipment and preventing the source of funding to the terrorists in order to rescue the girls.

US says no travel restrictions for Guinea, Nigeria, Sierra Leone

The US department of State has said that no Ebola related travel restrictions have been put on Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone. The agency issued a fact sheet on Ebola which confirms that on August 07 it advised against non essential travel to Liberia.  It has since 08 August ordered family members of US embassy staff to depart Monrovia. 

FG bans interstate movement of corpses 

The National Council of Health has prohibited the transportation of corpses and all critically ill persons from local and international routes with immediate effect. Waivers were only to be granted by the Federal Ministry of Health and the mode of transportation would be by ambulances. The minister of Health Professor Onyebuchi in a meeting with National Union of Riad Transport Workers (NURTW) and National Road Transport Owners (NARTO) made it known to all drivers plying both international and local routes to demand a waiver from anyone who wishes to carry a corpse and to collate all personal information of passengers. 

ECOWAS staff dies in Lagos

Mr Jatto Abdulkadir has reportedly died of the deadly Ebola virus disease. The deceased was a protocol assistant who worked closely with the late Liberian Patrick Sawyer. He had been in isolation since the death of the Liberian. He is the third person in Nigeria to have died of the disease. ECOWAS has expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government and paid tribute to the deceased. 

Northern leaders accuse Jonathan, Govs of third term plot. 

Northern delegates at the ongoing National Conference yesterday once more accused President Goodluck Jonathan and the State Governors of introducing a new National constitution that will avail them the right to a third term in power. Said Former inspector General of Police Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie who was Chairman of the forum known as Northern Delegates Forum. He made known that he had challenged the leadership of the Conference to no avail and stresses that the third term agenda might plunge the country into political chaos. 

Telcoms companies to switch off fake phones from network 

The Federal Government is likely to order the telecoms operators to switch off over 12.6 million substandard phones from their networks nationwide. This will be done using the international Mobile Equipment Identity Number (IMEI).  Said Dr Joseph Odumodu a Director General Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Whonis working with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Consumer Protection Council.  The move is expected to increase revenue for Government via tax and revenue for genuine mobile phone manufacturers.

Obasanjo and Tambuwal hold close door meetings 

Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal yesterday held a closed door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta in a 30 minute dialogue that marked his prospect for the 2015 Presidency. Special Adviser Imam Imam who accompanied Tambuwal said that the meeting was essentially to "run minds" with baba However there are speculations form sources in the House of Representatives indicating that the meeting is the beginning of consultations to explore a 2015 Presidency candidacy from the platform of APC. 

Police and Amaechi disagree over tour of LGAs

The Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and the state Police are out of agreement on the tour of the Governor to the local government areas in the state. The Commissioner of Police in the State Mr Tunde Johnson Ogunsakin strongly advised the governor against using his visit to wards for electoral campaign.  This statement comes after the governor met with  strong protest from several wards in the state . Mrs Ibim Semenitari commissioner for information and communications said that the move was to check the accountability of the leadership. 

-Two suspected armed robbers, Sikiru Oyebamiji and Afeez Salami, arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, said robbing people was more profitable than their legal job.The duo was arrested in the Mushin area of Lagos and also found with a locally-made pistol.

They were nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Friday, July 31, around 12.30am when they were allegedly heading for an operation.

-Northern delegates attending the ongoing National Conference have dissociated themselves from the “New Draft Constitution” made available to all the delegates by the leadership of the conference in Abuja on Monday.

The northerners said that they were not privy to the emergence of the draft constitution.The proposed amendment submitted to the delegates was titled, “A bill for an act to further alter the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(1999) with the first, second and third alteration, and for related matters 2014”.

- The authorities of Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State, have denied that a 27-year-old man, Chijioke Ezebuiro, who allegedly killed his 87- year old father, Dr. Emmanuel Ezebuiro , was a student in the institution.

The Deputy Registrar of the university, Okija Campus, Mr. Charles Njoku, said the authorities of the institution had thoroughly gone through their records and found that the suspect was not their student.
