Gov Amaechi Says He Has Never Touched The Masses Money

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, yesterday, explained why he was the target of attacks from some politicians within and outside the state.
According to him, “most of the people opposed to me are in the rank of those I assisted one way or another, some by contract awards but they failed to deliver.”

Speaking at a meet-the-people tour of communities in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state,  Amaechi said: “If you check Obio/Akpor council, you will see how many persons that have grown through me.

Almost 80 per cent of those fighting me today are people who I have given billions of naira in contracts and they have put the money in their pockets, they did not deliver and they claim they are Ikwerre people.

“I have said that the road at Eneka was given to an Obio/Akpor son. The internal road at Rumuolumeni was given to a Rumuolumeni son. They gave it to one of Obio/Akpor’s sons to do. They have not done it. They have no fear, no shame.

“You know, the worst money to steal is the money belonging to your people. For me, go and check Ubima Road, as an ordinary Special Assistant to Chief Rufus George, the money he brought, we did the Ubima Road and when I became Speaker, I got Dr. Peter Odili to do the road and the road lasted until I became governor.

“I did not touch Ubima money. I did not say ‘I want to be a big man, contractor, give me N40 million first’. The first road to Ubima was N40 million, one kobo I did not see.

“All the roads in Rumuepirikom(community of Nyesom Wike) were done by this administration. I gave the contracts to your son and paid hundred per cent. But almost all the roads there have gone bad and they are not major traffic route. It is because of greed.

“As an Ikwerre man, what else can I do? Please tell me what else do you want me to do that I have not done? I just did not do the road, I gave it to Ikwerre people to do. If you are not a good contractor, you look for a good contractor to do for you, is it not? Now, you are not a good contractor, you don’t want to hire a good contractor, you just buy one pay loader and you begin to scratch the ground.”

He thanked the people of Oro-Igwe for the opportunity of meeting with them and urged them to beware of those who would be dishonest or betray people for selfish reasons.

Infact Why do you say he is consistent with his many stories..Let’s look at it: You gave me a contract and I took the complete money without doing the job and you refused to report to anybody or arrest me. At the same time, you were rewarding me with more and better political appointments... Haba you checkam na..Amaechi is plain wicked to his rivers people and need to be put into a cage

  38. Rotimi Chibike Amaechi. Mr Controversy! Well about not touching the people's money, i can't say anything about that cos i don't know if it's true or not. Awarding contracts to the indigenes to develop their communities is so true cos they complained that he wasn't encouraging indigenous contractors. He has mentioned their names before. However, am still baffled on why he is yet to prosecute them.

  39. imagine this good for nothing charlatan publicly grandstanding about his probity and integrity, the whole hogwash is an oxymoron. You've not stolen public money but you've doled out billions of public funds to cronies for job either poorly executed or not executed at all. this intself is self indictment warranting immediate impeachment and subsequent prosecution. As regards not dipping hands into public funds for personal enrichment, he can tell that story to an ebola infected fruit bat, what other biz does he have to justify his opulent lifestyle and personal worth. Some of us knew him when he was working at Odili's clinic and his children were daily been transported to Play pen nur/pri school rumuibekwe daily with okada

    2. Wildrage u sound like a broken record. We all started from some where. Everybody has a story to tell. Calling Amaechi names doesn't stop him from being the Rivers governor.what i do know is that Amaechi did way much better than his predecessor.

      Delete
    3. Are u for real ? or you are just being deliberately stupid. Its because we have so many people like you in Naija who inspite of their education sparingly adorn their thinking caps that charlatans in power gets away with their perfidy. the issue is not about "humble beginning" rather its about probity, integrity and what you do with public funds when you find yourself in public office. Ameachi's kids school abroad now with tax payers money and he feels he has the right to insult us by claiming publicly that he's never stolen from the funds entrusted to him, he doles out billions of Naira worth of phony contracts to cronies and instead of being remorseful by recovering the funds and prosecuting his profiteering friends , he is more concerned with their political betrayal.

  40. I don't want to exonerate the governor, but I pity him.

When he wanted to give contracts to competent firms the same indigenes said NOOOO & even went as far as kidnapping some of the expatriate staff that were seen on site.
CRA decided to please the people who voted him into power, now these same people have turned round to criticise him.

I also remember when shell wanted to dualise woji rd from old aba rd to the end, the woji people said shell should give them the contract. The contract was given to one of their chiefs who took the youth to townhall and bought them drinks. The dualization project yet undone!

  45. some stories are better told to the birds. Amaechi should think before coming out to talk and not the reverse. if he(Amaechi) was not part of the fraud why not prosecute them now rather than moving from one place to the other singing different songs and bringing his leg out by himself. #loserstalk. unto the next matter ojare
