Ebola Virus Outbreak In Nigeria Update - OMG!

It is with a heavy heart that i write this.......Granted that Patrick Sawyer brought this upon us in Nigeria, but now that we fully understand the virus and it's implications, aren't we expected as individuals to be responsible for ourselves so as to better manage the crisis?

The government and health workers have done their bit, which is to provide us with extensive education about the virus and it's level of widespread. However, It's annoying that those people you expect to understand the situation, like doctors and health workers, are the ones now spreading the virus and thus putting the lives of their loved ones at risk....and these loved ones also put others at risk...OMG the list goes on.!

The latest development is that of one of the doctors who was in first consultant hospital when Sawyer was there LIED about having any contact with Mr Sawyer
and his actions is about to cause an uproar again.

We all know that this hospital was where Mr Sawyer breathed his last. Subsequently, the Lagos State Ministry of health ensured that they carried out a thorough scrutiny of all the doctors and nurses on duty that day, just to know who had any contact with Mr Sawyer. Only a few answered in the affirmative and they were monitored. While the other consultants and nurses said that they never had any contact with Sawyer.

One of the doctors who denied contact with Sawyer fell sick days ago and started to exhibit the symptoms of Ebola. Rather than take extra precautions or isolate himself, or be taken to where the government has designated for the purpose, he called his pastor to come pray for him. His pastor got to his house, however on seeing that his( doctor's) condition was very critical, the pastor put him in his car along with his wife and they were taken to the hospital.

He was treated in the hospital upon declaring that he had a history of stroke. He however refused to disclose that he had the Ebola symptoms. Even though this doctor was sure that he had been infected with Ebola,he hid it from the doctor who attended to him. He returned home with his wife after treatment. Only for him to die at home 2 days after. Cause of death? Ebola!!!

Now this is what I find intriguing, shocking and annoying. The doctor's wife understood that her husband had Ebola. She knows the cause of death is Ebola. He died in the house, and the next thing was that she called for her husband to be embalmed right there in their home.

Who's next apart from his wife?

The pastor...he was oblivious to this danger but now has to be traced for monitoring. The doctor's wife, kids, household staff, pastor's relatives, and everyone else that was around him have to be close marked too. Not leaving out the morgue attendants that carried out the embalming, they also have to be traced for monitoring. At the last count, about 40 people have to be quickly reached and isolated to ensure that they are OK.

Where do we start from?

Late Doctor Adadevoh's sister caused an uproar days ago at the hotel where she was lodged by her family members. She was put there in isolation because she had close body contacts with her sister before she died. She submitted for testing but the results are not yet out to confirm whether she has been infected with Ebola.

The Lagos state ministry of health have endeavoured to put her under close monitoring and she is now in LASUTH where she awaits her blood test results. Contrary to public reports that it was the Lagos state ministry of health officials that put her up in a hotel, it was actually her family members that put her there.

My grievance is with the so called doctors and other health care experts of first consultant hospital. Just in case there are any more liked this doctor who denied contact with Sawyer, please for the love of God come out and get help. PLEASE!

Why are make this issue more difficult than it already? If you are asked to submit yourself, or asked the details of your body contact with Sawyer while he was in the hospital, it is for your own good. Denial is what has killed this doctor who died days ago. Now his wife, his pastor, and others who surrounded him until his death ARE ALL A HEALTH RISK AND MUST BE QUARANTINED.

..Just When we thought that we were on top of our game with eradicating Ebola form our midst, some so called enlightened folks are making a mess of it and taking us Back to square one.

The search for these people begins in earnest...THEY MUST ALL BE QUARANTINED TO PREVENT AN OUTBREAK OF THE EBOLA DISEASE IN LAGOS!

Please if you know you have had close contact with anyone whom you suspect is displaying symptoms of Ebola, please save your loved ones and go for test..PLEASE!!!!

The Lagos Ministry of health is already on this issue and everyone involved will be quarantined before this weekend is over...please submit yourself for quarantined if you know you are a health risk!

    2. Yes. In addition to this Stella. Doc Adaevoh's sister was so traumatized when she heard that her sister died. So angry that she gulped two bottles of wine at once and started hallucinating. Thank God for the timely intervention of the hotel staff who hurriedly called for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. It wasn't easy to convince her to be taken to the isolation center. They had to cajole her to prevail. Unfortunately her late sister Doc Adaevoh also didn't submit herself on time. She refused to be tested and kept telling everyone that she would carry out her blood test herself. However after a while she succumbed and she was taken to the hospital. When she got to the hospital, again she refused to disembark from the ambulance. It took docs long two hours to beg her to enter the hospital. And because it took her so long to agree to seek help, as she kept assuring the commissioner for health Dr Idris,, that she rejects ebola in Jesus name...however her immune system collapsed few hours after being admitted. And she died a day after being in a coma because she had exhausted her immune system.. It's very sad.

What the public have refused to understand is that 5 out of those who were quarantined have been discharged free of Ebola. Although they tested positive in the beginning. So this is a pointer to the fact that this virus can be managed if help is sought immediately. Please don't seat at home or runaway from help. It's not the best way, else you'll just die.

    4. The fear of being stigmatized. Until the likes of Chidi Mokeme learn to shut up and reach out to Ebola victims rather than this crass "shoot on sight" myopic mentality, this disease will surely spread unfortunately. Ignorance truly kills faster. Report anycase of feverish symptoms immediately rather than giving self medication. EVD isn't a death sentence, as we all have seen.

The UBA staff there also need to be quarantined and checked for ebola. So also the customers that visited the branch. We are in big Trouble and we don't know it yet.

The Pastor is already infected but still in the early stage to transfer (or so I once believed), then the so called health workers and doctors of the hospital they visited infected, including the ones that embalmed him well well. Heavy duty ebola residing in them. As it is now, these people should please and please save the lives of their loved ones and vacate their own premises and go register at Yaba. Which one again is asking stupid questions of if they came in contact with the man? What nonsense again is this. Well since madam refused to report to her husband, its obvious she will soon join him, shikena! Even my little cousin that just mentioned light-headedness 3wks ago, I don pick fone to call Lagos state no, before she quickly said it was hunger that was worrying her, how much more those who are supposed to help us out! They had better get the name of the pastor and publish it out before he goes on to lay hands on his parishioners. No more time to cover up anyone.

Illetracy does not necessarily mean lack of formal education, it means lack of social orientation to discern the good from bad or what can we use to describe the action of this doctor?? Only if they knew that a village with a total population of 50,000 and above in Liberia has been isolated and quarantined!! They can't go outside their village as it has been barricaded. Govt is just waiting for them to die one by one.

    1. Is it that First Consultants Hospital didn't have a duty roster? How come the other doctors and nurses on quarantine did not mention this particular doctor?

2 What has stroke got to do with Ebola symptoms. There is no way a hospital will see a typical Ebola symptom and conclude that those symptoms were as a result of previous stroke history. Since when did fever, vomiting etc. become symptoms of stroke?

    3. With the Ebola uproar and all the stories everywhere, how come the pastor did not know the hospital where such an important church member works?

Since victims and their families are hiding themselves and not being sincere at their condition thereby continuing the spread of the virus , I think having their names and photos displayed will help .

  43. I dont know how true this story is seeing this is the first place i am reading about it. However we must ve sensible here. If my member calls me to come and pray and i know he works as a doctor where Ebola first broke out i will be very very careful. I will advise him to call the ebola hotline. If i think my faith can weather it is another story. However what of his wife and children? do they have the same level of faith as me the pastor or the sick member. Pastors must have faith but be very very responsible as well. they must also remember obedience to authority pleases God too. If he sick member claims he is not sick because he has faith and i the pastor agree and go there to pray for him, WHAT OF EVERY OTHER PERSON like the new doctors, nurses, morgue attendants and co that will come in contact with the ailing man?
hospital and morgues must be on high alert too. You must ask pertinent questions and watch out for ebola symptoms before placing your hands on a sick person. These are trying times indeed.

  44. This is devasting to read. Everyone in Africa is in my prayers. I may be in America, but our Doctors and Government are ignorant, wrong and beyond selfish. I am one of many who does not agree that the American missionaries got the vaccine while others suffered. If they were true followers of God they would have given their doses to children in Africa-as God is clear-we are to protect the children. They could have given it to anyone and it would have been better. God will punish them for their selfishness. They take the risk, they should not have an easy out while thousands die and suffer. *Heavenly Father in Jesus' name I pray for you to protect your children in Africa, to end their termoil and suffering and to heal all the people with ebola. In Jesus' name thank you Father.* I know that I am not safe, none of us are, because people are selfish and their selfishness will result in the death of too many, even one death is too many. **If you see this, please pray for your guidance, but too prepare-be extra cautious and vigilant. Just know there is many of us praying and we would all gladly accept death to help another.

  56. If a so-called doctor could do this, who is now safe? Broad day witchcraft!! How can one be this wicked! Did it occur to him that he was also putting his family at risk (even if he did not care about others?). No one can claim ignorance of the Ebola virus even if living in the forest. This doctors' action is worst than Sawyers! After all Sawyer wasn't a Nigerian.

  58. Africans are selfish, evil, gullible and terrible.

The 2 Americans isolated themselves immediately they started having fever like symptoms, they dint wait to be tested .Common sense told them it must be Ebola because they had interacted with Ebola patients. I watched the American doctors interview and was indeed inspired. He kept acknowledging God and his faith was so strong but he did the right thing.

The question is why lie if indeed you came in contact with an Ebola patient? To what end? a doctor who should know better. You can ring your pastor at the quarantine centre and tell him to pray for you but do the right thing first. Does he really love his family? His children? His wife? The pastor must have also come in contact with other people and the list goes on.

    This is sad and unfortunate!!
    Lord have mercy on us.

  59. If you ask me, i will say part of the reason Ebola will continue to spread is wickedness. The same way That EVIL WICKED patrick sawyer came to spread it in Nigeria, that is the same way many others will spread it. Let me tell you all one thing, apart from miracle, another thing that saved that American doctor is his kind heart and fear of God Almighty, didn't you all watch his speech? He is a GREAT christian. He said as soon as he started feeling sick he quarantined himself, now what did our own Nigerian doctor do? he also knowingly spread it. May God help his children

  61. If he was on duty then he should have been under surveillance and if proper surveillance was done they should have realized he was ill and then subsequently quarantined. The best measure at this point is to make sure we practice preventive measures.and trust no oneeee

  62. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS NOW. THE FEAR IS THAT MANY PEOPLE WHO CAME IN CONTACT WITH THIS SO DOC MAY NOT EVEN KNOW THEY HAVE CONTACTED IT AND SOME WHO KNOW THEY HAVE MAY CHOOSE TO BE WICKED LIKE MR SAWYER AND THIS DOCTOR. AGAIN, SOME CARRIERS MAY HAVE TRAVELED OUTSIDE LAGOS AND GET OTHERS INFECTED.. WHAT I THINK SHOULD BE DONE IS FOR GOVERNMENT QUICKLY DEVELOP A PROGRAM TO TEST EVERY NIGERIAN CITIZEN STARTING WITH LAGOS STATE AND THEN QUARANTINE THOSE WHO SHOW EBOLA +VE. THANKS.

  63. I pray this thing doesnt go on forever. one person gets it and knowingly or not, gives it to another person. Only god knows how many people have it yet. I pray to God this stops on time. Its really scary and I dont blame Sawyer. The thing could have entered the country one way or the other, abi no be naija?

  70. i'm shocked dat Nigerians still dont know d difference btw one's personality, character and one's profession. (Dr)is only an academic title and can't answer for the bearer's character. a Doctor can as well be a murderer. that having been said, let's not be fast too judge, as many of us, would react in d same pattern or worse if caught in d same scenario. D virus and d fact that most cases result in death, is enuff to make one misbehave, especially, when it's confirmed that Nigerians love life a lot. LOL. So let's not play holy here. Tho it's not an excuse to hybernate when we know we have it or have exhibied symptoms,i think wit d level of awareness and medical control now in place, it'll be cheer wickedness to wanna kill others wit it. such a person is not any different from a murderer or even worse, cos of d masses it will affect, d person will be treated as one who has committed Genocide or war crimes. LMAO...........it's well. I think wat 's most important i dat we all live purposeful lives now. EVD, i believe is a plague and has its good sides and bad sides, unfortunately d bad sides are overwhelming. one good side is dat, Nigerians will learn manners and good personal hygiene and most essentially, purposeful life.
