Ebola Virus And The Role Of MTN,GLOBACOM,ETISALAT,AIRTEL And Co...

STELLA DIMOKO KORKUS IS CALLING OUT MTN,GLOBACOM,ETISALAT,AIRTEL AND OTHERS TO RISE UP AND USE THEIR MEDIUM TO INFORM THE LESS INFORMED ON THE EBOLA VIRUS

I have an issue that's been bothering me seriously since this EBOLA virus scare ....it is the irresponsibility of the Nigerian government and our corporate organisations - specifically the telecom giants and how they ask people to subscribe for non important things via text .why have they not have sent out SMS' on how to prevent the spread of this epidemic?how can they keep quiet?WHY?

Some people have already been tagged snobbish because they ask others to wash hands before they shake or make contact or even out rightly refuse such handshake.

If people are properly educated there wouldn't have been an instance like bringing back a corpse from Liberia because they would know that they are putting themselves at risk too.

I hereby use this medium to challenge all telecommunication companies in Nigeria to send out messages on this EBOLA scourge in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo and  Yoruba for FREE Telling people what to do.

Let them leave project fame,Nigerian idol and all the other un-important project swallowing millions of Naira for now and channel these monies to the EBOLA VIRUS emergency.

If they ignore this memo, please join in as an individual and compose messages alerting people on the various messages to take in whatever Language you are proficient in... start to send it out as broadcast messages, please MAKE IT VIRAL.....

HEAVEN only helps those who help themselves...start now please before a whole nation is wiped out due to ignorance!

If you work in any of the telecommunications company,I beg you in God's name, bring this up tomorrow in your Monday meeting okay?Thank you and God bless!

I mean well with this post actually!

    3. Churches and Mosques are not exempt from those with the responsibility to educate o! Na dem go effective pass sef. Cos nobody go church pass Naija pipul. After educating my nanny who is the mama adura patapata women chairleader etc in her church I asked her if she had educated and announced in church she said no. I told her she had sinned. Haba its a no brainer. Its that important. Suffice to say, maybe this week she will. I hope.

My fear now is when schools resume! How will we do with the kids abeg??

    4. Govt no serious
      Telecoms pple no send us
Hospital and clinics sef dey disappoint
Went for a scan @ a clinic around akoka,na so I start to form conversation with the nurse...omo na me come even then educate the nurse(thnksToSDKblog)...I ws so disappointed, no sanitizers or soap in the toilet...too bad
I think hand sanitizers shud be cheaper or even free bcos that thing is costlier than the amount an average Nigerian spends on a daily meal
I really hope there are enough Nigerians to vote come 2015 stupid elections..because the election seems to be the priority of our leaders

  2. Excellent observation and idea Stella.

I am 100% with you on this. Telecom giants the ball is in ur court. Making profits shouldn't be ur only aim. You have a social responsibility as well.

She was so shocked n scared. So pple its our responsibility to explain to d illiterates by breaking down to their level of understanding. God help us all.

  8. Stella, can u imagine I copied that US embassy stuff that you posted on your site during the week and sent it out as a broadcast. Someone replied me and said afterall something must kill a man. I replied him back and said but at least make sure you die alone and save your innocent family the stress of dragging them along with you. And this was once a bank manager oh. So not even a question of being an illiterate. For the hand one, if you like vex oh. Sha go and wash your hand before we smile together.

  12. .....Stella be sure of what you write. You can say they have not done enough not that they are quiet. What network are you on? I know I have read something from one of the networks on Ebola.
I hate it when at every opportunity people cast aspersions on the telecoms companies. We have a lot of other service and consumer goods providing companies that have not met or been meeting the aspirations of their consumers yet no one mentions them.
Am not defending any of the networks, I don't own any but let's be more objective please.

  13. Well written Stella , I hope they will listen. I also think pastors, priests, imams should also help in their own little way by talking about the virus In church and mosque.
A lot of Nigerians don't have access to telly, radio and phone .
I strongly believe we will beat the virus.

  14. Somethings also bugging me, how about large social gatherings especially religious gatherings were people share facilities with the sick. Isn't this a fertile ground for Ebola to spread? Shouldn't they be put on hold for now. I happen to know one of the biggest churches in Nigeria is holding its annual convention beginning on the 4th of this month to the 10th. Venue is lagos and people from all over Nigeria will be there. I'm worried o, I'm worried.....

  16. Stella, I got something on Ebola from Etisalat this morning, also Federal ministry of Health; it read " Contact with blood, sweat, urine &semen of infected persons/bats/monkeys transmits Ebola. Symptoms: fever, vomiting, diarrhea &bleeding. Wash hands always &stay alert. " . This shows they are doing something. I don't know about other networks though.

  24. I think you should suggest or appeal to them rather than challenge them . They are not duty bound to do jack

What is the ministry of health doing to create awareness? There should be TV adverts , jingles on radio in the diff languages, news papers etc, bill boards, posters .Health workers should be detailed to market places and the likes to address people etc.
