A nurse, who had previously had contact with the Liberian Ebola patient Patrick Sawyer, fled quarantine in Lagos, and returned to her home in Enugu. This risky decision, and her resulting contact with 20 other people, have put the government on high alert.
According to Sahara Reporters Minister of Information Labaran Maku, speaking at a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting today, that the nurse and the 20 people she was in contact with are currently under surveillance in Enugu.
“All those who she was in contact with, including her husband, are under quarantine. The medical team has been able to trace all those who made contact with her," he furthered, encouraging citizens to comply with protocol and instruction from health officials.
“We have port health workers that are working in our airports and seaports. We are calling on citizens specifically to cooperate. If health workers say you have had contact with A, B, C, don’t move to anywhere; respect that judgment. It is very important. In one or two cases where we have had disobedience, we lost one of them and this one now moved with it to another place (Enugu). So we are urging Nigerians, please, to help us in making sure that all these messages and appeals we are making are implemented."
189 people are now being monitored in Nigeria. Three have died from the disease: Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American businessman who collapsed in Lagos, an attending nurse, and an ECOWAS staffer who worked with Sawyer.
*This pure wickedness on the Nurse' part and her actions are no different from what Patrick Sawyer is being accused of....why knowingly spread something?wickedness in high places!...thats my two cents!
Witch!
ReplyDeletePipi Lee
Just 20 people? I don't think so. From lagos-enugu-her house. No apologies whatsoever for calling her a witch.
DeleteThe American doctor, as soon as he discovered he had fever, he isolated himself immediately. In Nigeria, even the professionals acts unprofessionally. A nurse moving about with a highly contagious deadly disease. Even putting her own family at risk. Patrick sawyer's incarnate.
Pipi Lee
My question is how do they even get these statistics? How do they know It's 20 people? Are they sure It's really 20 people?

Stephy.
When they catch her let them execute her....she is almost a murderer...and we cant trust her not to run off again and put the entire nation at risk, better one person than the whole country, since she is a wicked irresponsible person
DeleteThis is where common sense should prevail before sentiments..taking it to her own threshold in another state?
DeleteShe should be cremated alive.
Her picture should even be in circulation. A nurse for that matter, infact this one is pure withcraft.
This is why I suggest that lagos state where it first started should declare at least one week of lock down for everyone. So that everyone can be adequately monitored to know who's showing the symptoms. With every household involved in this exercise we would soon fish out everyone that has contracted it, so that they can be isolated asap. But with everyone moving around while we are yet to find those who are sick with Ebola, unfortunately it will just spread in no time. But I was told that this gesture would affect the economy, but I insist it's the best way. We should be able to sacrifice a few days to prevent more casualties from this epidemic. Isn't it when u have life in abundance that u will spend money or worry about the economy? Which is more important?

DeleteOnly one question, HOW COULD SHE HAVE ESCAPED...BIG security FAIL. Now imagine if she had taken public transport home to get money to get to Enugu? Used an atm? Then taken a cab to the park. Then got on a bus to Enugu, taken a cab to her house....do u see my line of thinking. We are so far in over our heads on this one.
DeletePls no one should blame me for being paranoid when people like this exist. Haba aunty nurse you have no idea what your actions may have spurned. Again I am still worried about kids resuming in Sept. How do people get their staff tested?? I heard tests have to be sent out of the country for tests? Is this true.
Sorry started off with one question, I know.
This nurse is so unprofessional and wicked..... Haba... So she even wants to take it to her own family.... Some people lack common sense

ReplyDeleteGod save us o. How are they even sure that its only 20people she came in contact with? How was she able to transport herself to Enugu? These and more are pertinent questions that should b asked. I rest my case
This is unimaginable from a health worker who has had 1st hand experience on the deadly effect of the virus. What an act of wickedness! Gosh! Why can't she even pity her family? Why spread it?
DeleteGod please have mercy
That woman is conclusively wicked!
ReplyDeleteKnowing that she could put people in danger and encourage the disease, she went ahead to escape the quarantine facility and knowingly put other people at risk.

The virus don give am mental problem, cos that's my only explanation....Madness must be a symptom they haven't taken note of cos me no just understand how a nurse that should know better would try that shit!!! she should be sued for attempted murder!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNot only wickedness. Lack of education is to be blamed. In terms of educating people, the government is not doing enough. Only God knows her mode of transportation to Enugu, passengers she may have sat beside, driver, those who welcomed her home etc
ReplyDeleteSpeechless... Ignorance or wickedness, sigh.
ReplyDeleteThe height of wickedness and ignorance.
ReplyDeleteCooking and Nepa just kill the light(kpa ina) hope i don't mistake kerosene for groundnut oil.
ReplyDeleteIs this post part of Saturday laughs or what? A health care personnel playing with such a deadly virus and knowing fully well the implication of doing so,what a witch indeed!
ReplyDeleteWat do they mean by she escaped??? Escaped how?? Where did they put her in d first place?? Dis jus goes to say dat our health support system in dis country is zero! 20 pple? Wat about d bus/plane/ she took to enugu? Where they no other passangers? It's a shame d way d government is handling d issue wen at this point, when all they should be thinking about is how to put an end to it. God help us all
ReplyDeleteBefore we all start crucifying her, what's the quarantine Center like ? Are they fed n looked after properly ? Adequate care? Etc or they just left there to die.
ReplyDeleteEveryone you meet is fighting a battle you no nothing about. Be kind, don't judge, don't Assume. Show love..
Where have you been DD??..
DeleteMan, thanks for this. She should be rebuked for her action, but wishing her death and condemning her isn't right at all. Let's put ourselves in her shoes: how many of us wouldn't truly nurse the idea of "escaping" from quarantine if we get "arrested" by health workers on the suspicion that we're carriers of EV? How many of us would rain abuses on her if she was a loved one? She's wrong, but she really needs strength right now, not bashing.
DeleteSo because she wasn't fed and center probably makeshift gives her d impetus to escape????
DeleteI think d last thing on anyone that knows he/she will die is food and shelter.
People naturally dont like thinking and talking about death, cos they do not really understand that anything that liveth must surely die.
This nurse is a not a nice person when she was healthy, most nigerian nurses dont even know what being nice is;to me she is just an ebola bitch.
ebola bitch.
God of mercy.pls can dey start displaying the faces of people infected, so we can recognise dem.Didnt d family knw she was infected and quarantined earlier.people r mean oo
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is she infected her family members. Adongerrit
ReplyDeleteJust bcos she wanted to be buried in her hometown.

ReplyDeleteWhere is thy faith???read psalm 91 and dont forget that God is not a man that he should lie.

The fear of ebola is the beginning of wisdom. Read in the dailies how a patient went to general hospital agege and upon the medical team seeing blood drippings from her nose sent her out of the hospital that she should go to yaba isolation center. Omo the whole agege scattered o. When the nurses and doctor s took to their heels screaming ebola ebola egbami ooo. People scampered for safety and locked up dia shops in fear. No be small matter o.

ReplyDeleteWhat sort of nonsense is this? Now she has endangered the lives of other innocent people. Fleeing to her homeland will not change the price of fish or remove Ebola from her body. I am sure her village people must have told her to come back home to appease the gods. E no de hard dem. if not why escape. They should please publish her face to alert other people. Instead of trying to contain these, some Patrick sawyers are helping spread it. She is not different from that yeye man, simple.
ReplyDeleteInnocent people????

ReplyDeleteAfter they go blame GEJ for this woman action. you see say we no be our brother's keeper. I pray that nothing happens to those she came in contact with. I think she should be arrested and detained till further notice.
ReplyDeleteThis is wickedness. She and mr sawyer belong together. Mchew. I'm so angry .
ReplyDeleteYes, it is absolutely unresonable for the nurse to escape and futher spread the disease, but truth be told, it's not so easy to be locked up in a room, waiting for death. I just feel so sorry for her,
ReplyDeleteThis nurse should be whooped on the butt... how can she, a health professional be very aloof with her situation. She is a cone head really.
ReplyDeleteMay God help her.
Well...I am going to play devil's advocate here. She had contact with the Liberian man that died of Ebola and was being quarantined to determine IF she has it. The report does not indicate that she has been determined to HAVE Ebola.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think putting all the quarantined people in one facility is dangerous. Some of the people in that facility have been determined to have Ebola and some are just being closely watched due to their contact with a diagnosed person. I'm sorry but I would flee too! What if by God's grace and sheer luck she doesn't have the disease? and then you put her in the same surroundings as someone who does. Isn't that a risk for her to catch it?????
I think there should be different centers for patients that have been established to have the Ebola virus and the people being monitored to determine IF they contacted the virus. Its been over 21 days since the Sawyer guy died and if they haven't found Ebola in her system now then she probably didn't get it. We're all running away from the disease...why shouldn't she???
*My two cents*
Well said..
DeleteMy thoughts too.
DeleteThere is no need playing d devil"s advocate.
DeleteShe is a nurse and knows d consequences of her actions, and am sure she's also a christian who goes to church from sunday to monday so am sure she must ve d scripture that says "it is in dying that we receive eternal life.
She failed as a medical practitioner,a mother and as a human being.
...And she will pay for sins.
When I read the news, I was like Naija! We can just be hysterical without facts. Is 21 days not enough to establish if she has EV or not. All they could say was she had contact with Patrick Sawyerr meaning she could be free of the virus. Quarantining her with infected people increases her chances of getting the virus.
DeleteTwo.... lets assume she has EV, if she is not at the infectious stage (I don forget wetin them dey call am), she cudnt have passed it to anyone yet.
all this nurse 'muyiwa'sef. very wicked person. i pray dis does not go out of hand. GOD UNTO YOUR ABLE HANDS I COMMIT DIS COUNTRY.
ReplyDeleteAI-DEAREST
What in God's name was this nurse thinking???? How did she manage to escape? Don't they have security in those quarantine areas? They shld deploy military personnel to assist them too. This woman is wicked.
ReplyDeleteSecurity????
DeleteI ve not seen a selfless nigerian that would attempt to stop an ebola patient.
Military personnel???they ve not finished boko haram ,is it ebole that has no cure they will tackle. Anyway I heard they are looking for volunteers.
She must have been scared, confused and panicked. desperate times calls for desperate actions oh. My guess ran to Enugu to get Traditional Medicine.
ReplyDeleteDnt be quick to judge if u've Neva bin quarantined that feeling of been dejected is enough to drive 1 nuts! + trust Naija medical personnel wit their rude attitude.
The question shld b "Hw did she escape from the quarantine centre unnoticed?"
Zeeta
Thank God she went the east lol
ReplyDeleteAll these Ebola mafias should be named with pictures. Afterall the US doctors were showed on TV. Once their identity is known, people will either stay away from them or pick race once they are sighted. I see wickedness here.
ReplyDeleteGod heal our land
ReplyDeleteI have said it before and I'm saying it again. This Ebola issue has now been politicised. We do not have new cases of the virus. How did they diagnose the virus in these 8 People? Do we now have the diagnostic kit in Nigeria? Who are the lab scientists running those samples? Will they be Quarantined too seeing that prior to now we didn't have PPEs /Ebola suit? Even the ones they got were expired. The nurse that supposedly died, was she buried or cremated? The handlers of the corpse were they also quarantined? Why do I feel this Ebola thing is being blown out of proportion? Good distraction from bringbackourgirls and boko haram abi boko boys dey fear to die? So many inconsistencies, so many unanswered questions. Having said that, Dear NMA, please don't call off the strike just yet, I can't put myself and family at risk, it isn't part of the Hippocrates Oath.

ReplyDeleteStella I know u do investigative journalism, can u pls find out the condition of this quarantined place. Is the condition of the place conducive/comfortable b4 we crucify whoever runs away from this place. I know how crappy govt things can be at times.
ReplyDeleteSpeechless!
ReplyDeletePlease don't call her selfish or wicked. Do you know under which conditions they are being quarantined? WHO and standard health laws stipulate that quarantined individuals should be 3 ft away from each other? How is that possible in that small tent? The same attendants attending to the infected are taking their samples frequently to test for ebola. They use the same public outdoor toilet. When an ebola carrier uses the toilet, how well is this decontaminated before an ebola free person uses the same public outdoor toilet? Who is cooking their food? How did someone who never came close to the Nigerian index patient (Sawyer), test positive weeks after being quarantined? I think we should all just pray that this disease goes away, because no one will know what they would do if found under the same conditions. Even now, I am sure some of you would have relaxed a bit on the sanitizing measures that you had initially embarked on. How do we expect these health officials to be perfect and operate under the strictest sterile conditions possible when dealing with quarantined individuals. After all they are human. She ran away to avoid being infected, if she is not sick after 21 days why keep her there! You should stop being selfish and read up on Ebola!
