Stuck With Two Million Naira ....Blog Visitor Narrative.

Wow!

''Good Day Stella,
Please I need help/advice, my hubby gave me N2million to start a business since April and up till now I have not come up with anything, all of sudden I have no idea of a business to do, and he Said by September he will collect the money back.

He says that I am not serious, but truly i am trying so hard to come up with something but nothing yet, before now I can give people business idea, now that its my turn all the ideas have disappeared. please I need business ideas.
SDK bloggers good ideas please. Thanks and God bless you all''

*Wow,this life na wah!
Why dont you try 'second hand children clothes'.? I hear it sells like hot cake if you buy the large unopened rolled up bags and resell to buyers.

Try a lingerie store...different sexy colours and patterns in a friendly atmosphere, with window display.

    2. 1. Open up a shop to sell babies' necessaries eg- baby's clothes, shoes, accessories(for new born) , pregnant women's necessaries(breast pump), mother care etc.

      God bless your hustle.

    3. Think of what people need and not what they want. If they need it your business will grow faster and less debtors eg nobody owes a pharmacist because they need drugs, some thing like that necessities of life building materials, gas/kero/fuel supplies, food/food items/equipments, water etc. If you do a business that capitalises on what people want eg clothes, shoes, hair you have to make it put up a website so you can manage your debtors that way if they don't pay they don't get it. Think on this line

    4. God! I wish I had that amount of money, my business and business idea will be in cloud 9. Hmmmmmmm, it is well.

Actually poster you don't need such huge amount of money to start a business, so having such amount is an added advantage, and there are hundreds of business to start with such amount,
The main aim of business is to offer service and satisfy peoples demand, so whatever you do, look for what people demand the more this days and what can never go out of demand, and one of the main thing that can never go out of demand is foods and household items or goods.
So one of the business I will advice you to start is a superstore or supermarket, where you sell provisions, cosmetics, wines and drinks, household items, etc these are goods that will never go out of demand, what people consume and use on a daily basis.
With 500,000, you can get a good start of that business, but with 2 million, you are better placed to start in a big way, you are on a fast lane. Also location is very important with this kind of business
If you don't have any idea on the business or how to start, you can contact me, I can be your manager, I have close to 9years experience in the affirmation business or better still get someone with skill in such discipline to help you out, with two million you can afford the service

    5. Poster I own a babies/kids shop and I can say it's a lucrative business especially if you get unique items and your prices are pocket friendly. Don't rush into it,may God order your step.

    6. I must commend the poster for not being a shopping fool. You are very disciplined with money. If you must have a shop, sell food items. That's a very lucrative sector yet to be adequately tapped! Make sure its in the suburbs, where "real housewives"(Telemundo mums), find it tedious going to the market to buy "ogiri".Bring yams, palm oil, dried fish, egusi etc to their domain.infact, you will become royalty in their midst! Highly lucrative!

  7. Whatever business you do, make sure it's related to a necessity; food, shelter, clothing. Something the majority of the population can buy. The economic situation in Nigeria is not favourable to any frivolous business idea. At the initial stage, it's preferable to do the business from home and use word of mouth marketing/social media to reach friends/ family/targeted customers. I hope you have a car to make deliveries. You can also make use of despatch men.

If you live in Lagos, by the time you finish paying 2 years rent for a shop and furnishing it, 2mn don finish.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Lol even in pH o. 2m. U will rent shop na and renovate before u put in woteva, dats d reason evryone want to do clothing and superstore

  8. Check your location and research into what people around there need but don't have access to. E.G, VI workers in Ikorodu, Lagos will appreciate a shuttle that will convey them to VI and take them back home. This will lessen the stress of driving and struggling for bus in the morning. They can pay monthly or weekly; the shuttle should be made as comfy as possible.
I also know that ladies are always buying stuff, be it clothes, jewellery, shoes n bags. You can use your car for the meantime and drive to your friends' offices and others for a start. When you recoup your capital, you can now rent and tush up a boutique.
There is also fish farming, with the amount you have, you can rent a plot of land somewhere and create a pond then get the fingerings.
Everything depends really on your location and the need of the people in your environment. All the best.

  9. Open à restaurant! Nigérians love food. The best there is around you. Have a delicacy that draw people to your restaurant daily. If you can't cook, employ one. Better still open a patisserie : make nice delicious bread, cakes, cookies, tartes, include a tea and fresh fruit drink in spot where people can come in buy cookies or cakes and drink and relax. Include coffee spot. Sorry my English is becoming rusty (live in France). Or again open a smoothie spot where pple can buy fresh smoothie (Nigeria has the perfect weather for that). Just know where to get fresh fruits each season and yoghurt. My 2cents. All the best. Chidi.

There is nothing wrong or razz in selling fairly used clothes cos there is a target population for it...there are stores abroad that deal in such...and besides before you form stable goody two shoes for me most of your so called boutiques in Nigeria have more of first grade okrika and clearance goods hanging for sale at the price of new ones.

It baffles me when people that can't afford a decent balanced diet thrice a day come to blogs and exhibit..their poverty mentality...

    5. How can she travel with 2 million? How much is two million again in euros? Ok, if I understood what you meant, you mean she should start going abroad to purchase whatever product she decides to sell, my dear, it's a waste! Lets start with visa fee, ticket cost both ways! Where will she stay? Definitely in a hotel if she has no friend or relative to stay with, cost of transporting herself within which ever country of her choice, mind you as a first time she is not yet acquainted with the environment, there are also costly minor
mistakes that might occur, what about cargo cost. I think 2 million is still below the cost of embarking on such.

    5. And I do t think her husband will collect it back, he prolly said that to encourage her. Which is very good of him. When u give someone money for business it's best u give them the impression that it's a 'loan' so that they can be responsible with it. Some other women would taken such gestures from hubby for granted, saying shebi he's my hubby I'll spend it anyhow and ask for more. Her hubby should be applauded.

  22. The essential first step in starting a business is having a well articulated plan.

Madam, could it be that the short time frame given to you to repay is the reason you are afraid to execute any of your previous business plans? If you believe that 6 months is short to get your business into profitability, discuss a more suitable time line with the provider of credit.

Maybe also you are afraid of failure. Remember that business is all about risk. There is always risk whenever reward is available. Best of luck.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes Jessica. The 2 million is a loan(credit) and her husband is the provider.

There are a lot of suggestions I have read today that make sense but unfortunately no one is taking into consideration the repayment date.
If she buys merchandise and is unable to sell them by September, what happens?

Starting a business is not like people say it is. Her husband should be able to extend the repayment time to allow her business to become firmly established.

  28. Why don't you invest in children's clothing. There are many online stores that deliver to Nigeria from UK and US or you buy from Dubai.

You could also sell ladies dresses and accessories including shoes and bags. You can get good designer brands from Dubai, UK and US.

You only need to know a couple of ladies who can spread the word for you. Open a blog where you display your wares, and use the pictures of your wares as DP on your BB

2mil is enough to kick start the business from home if you are mobile.

Good luck and all the best.

  29. You could start a creche/ daycare. Do your research. It will be very rewarding if you do it in the right place (where there's a need for it) and add a touch of class to it... Don't mind these people who underestimate China. Take 2mn kobo there, they will create a hair line for you. It might not be top quality but the price will attract non-aristo chasing girls from middle class homes. You don’t have to travel all the way. You can conclude everything online with the supplier sending samples to you.

I want to ask u questions and maybe when u answer them u will know the kind of business u will go into.
    1. What are the things u are passionate about?
    2. Do they solve human problems? If ur passion can't solve human problem people wouldn't petronise u. If u become a makeup artist like me, u know that every woman wants to look good on that special occassion. U have solved human need. Woala!! U've made ur money. If ur going into the sale of different hair extensions that is another human need because every woman want to also look good. If ur going into the sales of children cloth, its also a good idea because babies are born everyday. Make sure ur passion is a pressing human need.
    3. Also ask urself if u can handle the risk that is involved in the business. Some business will require ordering products from a particular country or different countries. While in some businesses u don't get paid instantly so u can be owed a huge some of money 4 a month or even a year. Like AGO business is like that.
    4. Can u take the streSs that is involved in a particular business? As a makeup artist travelling from one location to another is normal. As a married woman with little kids (if u have little kids) it might not be a good idea for u.

There are many things to consider when u are about to start a business. Don't just rush into it without planning and considering the business. If not u will run into loss. And also educate urself on business finance with books.

Also make sure u have a long term plan for a business. See urself up there. Don't see urself small. This will differentiate a mediocre from a tycoon

  41. To be able to advise you appropriately I need to know the city you reside. If you live in a town like ABJ, renting a lock up shop would eat up the whole N2 mil. But with your capital, whichever city you may reside, you could run the following from home: start a pet store, sell kiddies' wares from home, trade in gold jewelries, start a dry cleaning business etc. These are some things you can do but if you cannot stand the stress, you can get the money fixed in a bank for 3 months and earn some money.

If u re in an urban region and have lots of fashion forward people around u.. venture into buying things online and selling eg Hair from Alibaba.com etc. U can start dat with less dan 500k dont invest it all in that. Then have a go out and create network with resturants... so that u can supply them of livestock.. (this depends on land) u can start small with fish farming with 100k and good space u ll be surprise. But in all do not invest everything at once since u re dabbling.. if the stock from alibaba moves u can then buy more or u can take pictures from the site and tell ur frnds to order once u re sure of the order u can then buy as much as u can.... remb dis never restrict ur self yo ur frnds only... link up with people u can supply morelike wholesale ish. 46. If you are looking to go into clothes, then it should be directed to a certain category.. If you want to go into babies, then go fully into babies; what you need to do is to do something unique and different from other people who are maybe already into it or looking to go into it. I am staying in the UK and I have heard a lot about the diapers market, giving that what is in Nigeria as I heard is what they get from china and a child only use it for a couple of minutes and its all wet and bloated. You could probably try to get a different affordable brand of diapers and penetrate the market; it is a movable market. if you are looking to go into clothes, then go for baby bodysuits... so I learnt that this sells upto 4500 - 5000 and it is sold for about 2000 - 2500 here. Do something that you know people need, important thing is to turn over, if you can be able to take 10-15% less profit than your competitors and turn over as much as possible, then you should be comfortable with what you are making and in a little time, it is going to eventually do you good.. There are people in Nigeria who we load up goods for from here in the UK, then there are the fashion jewelries as well, affordable ones.. it all depends on you on what you want but I think when you get to try out a few things, you can eventually decide on what to do. Goodluck and if you need my help in anyway, do drop me a line and we can take it from there.. email: solution.seekers@hotmail.com

My advice is start small dnt be in a hurry to rent a shop or buy too much stock. Do something from home with just 200k and sell something people need not a want . Another advice I cn give u is dnt take small things for granted small things like garri, water, bread are very good because that is something people buy everyday. And do something that makes you happy 2million naira is a lot I started a business with just R1000 which is N15, 198 . Goodluck

  61. I have some suggestions for you:
(1)If you cant get a space in a developing area,,then you are good to go for CEMENT bizness. its a very lucrative one.
(2)Food stuff in wholesale. There's nobody who does not eat. You are eating now and in no time the thoughts of the next meal comes to mind.
(3)`If u do not mind importation of cars.you can start by importing 2 cars,,the only thing you need is to get the services of a TRUSTED clearing agent that will work with you in the customs clearing aspect.the pencil/tiny light toyota camry is about 750-800k(importation and clearing) and it is sold within d range of 1m- 1.1m . it is my line of bizness and trust me,,it is so interesting BUT you must make sure you are able to source for buyers quickly. so in my case,,i reduce my selling price compared to what you get outside, like that pencil light camry,,i can still sell it for 900-950k.

So u have so many options to choose from.

    ReplyDelete
  62. My dear no matter your location or the people located within your vicinity they cannot do without spices. First of all put one million in a fix deposit. Use five hundred for shop, counter, a deep freezer etc. Then use three hundred thousand to stock the shop with different spices, different brands of seasonings, spagethii, noddles, tin fihes and beef, thin food. Make sure it is very colourful. Use 50K and stock ice cream cups. Keep the remaining 150K in your savings. Omo you go sell tire. Spices advertises itself when properly displayed. The ice cream cos it will be irresistible to all who troup in to your shop. Mind you by sept when Oga ask for his money you can withdraw the one million on fixed deposit account and give him and plead for more time to balance so as not to affect your biz. Before then you wld have tripped your principal investment.

A woman in my area does it n makes good cash. Just make sure you sell them at affordable rates.

    Dear Poster,

God bless your hubby for his kindness.

Don't go into any retail trade cos u probably have to pay for a shop, govt levies and the rest, that is if you can't start from home. rendering service is more lucrative cos no one owes you large sums of money for too long, you don't have to worry about your products going bad or going out of fashion. rendering service include tailoring, hair dressing, fashion consultancy, make-up, event decorating, laundry....the list is endless.

Another service related bizz that people are yet to really embrace in Nigeria is freelance accounting. here, you source for SME's that don't have or can't afford to have an accountant to look into their books and do the relevant accounting statements. provide the service for them and get paid monthly or they pay you depending on what you do for them. If you have up to 10 organizations you render this service to that's plenty money.... remember, you don't have to rent a shop but it involves a lot of moving around to source for and convince clients. (This shouldn't be a problem for peeps that can sell sand in the desert lol)

I'm sure other blog readers especially those in the accounting field will really benefit from this.

Also, whatever business you decide to go into DO NOT invest all the 2M into it. have some in fixed deposit that you can always fall back on if things don't work out the way you plan.

    Cheers!

Your hubby shouldn't have given you the money yet until you have an idea, when you get money before your idea, you tend to delve into something that might not bring forth money later.. But when you have an idea first, you would make your plan, strategies and then initiate... It doesn't take a day to do all day,you have to go on market survey and all.. Well you have the money already, use it well. Gather all the ideas here, research,go on survey, see which you can do,know that which the risk is big and small, check the turnovers and then know how much % interest you would be making at the end of the month after deducting all cost

I will recommend HIP Asset Management Company. Their rates and services are top notch. Visit www.hipassetmanagement.com for more info.
