Stephen Keshi Wants To Continue As Nigeria's Coach

Stephen Keshi has said he would "love to stay on" as Nigeria manager despite a difficult three years at the helm.
The 52-year-old led Nigeria to their third African title in 2013 and the last 16 at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Nigeria Football Federation, which allowed Keshi's contract to expire after the World Cup, has opened discussions with him in the hope of persuading him to return as Super Eagles coach And BBC Sport understands the coach is keen to continue if contractual conditions are respected by his employers.

His previous reign as coach was littered with problems over money, as he experienced a number of delays in receiving his salary, and issues around his control of team selection.
The football authority also failed to provide Keshi with an official car and accommodation as stipulated in his previous three-year contract.
The former Nigeria captain was also burdened with the responsibility of paying one of his assistants from his monthly-salary after the NFF refused to approve the assistant's appointment.

These are some of the issues Keshi wants ironed out before he commits himself to a new contract with the NFF.
However, Nigeria's sports ministry is understood to feel Keshi has made" outrageous" demands over a new deal.
He has reportedly sought a new deal that would double his $30,000-a-month salary, ensure monies are paid upfront to avoid delays and also allow him to pick his staff.

But following a meeting of the NFF executive committee this week, the board "mandated the technical sub-committee to open channels of communication with Stephen Keshi with a view to extending his contract, as the NFF is still interested in working with him".

It added: "The technical sub-committee is to report back to the executive committee within one week.

  1. Yea, just wondering why he goes back and forth on his decision to manage the national team. He wants to manage today, then doesn't want to manage tomorrow!!! Enough of this already.,. Beginning to sound like a broken record. When a partner always threaten the other with divorce, it gets to a point where the other don't care any more. SOK, better behave!!!!!

  3. He hasn't made any "outrageous demands" if anything he shd be paid more. He's d coach dat has taken super eagles to d greatest height ever. It's not easy working wit grown ass men who even make more money than u. So NFF shd zip n give him his demand ASAP.
Stellz I don't agree wit u on dis. mbanu

  5. Aunt stella with all due respect please keep quiet. He knows his worth and what his doing will make them value him and he can demand whatever amount he wants. Do you know how much foreign coaches earn? Why should the nff choose players and staff for him?it is wrong!!!! Must everything in naija be politics and who you know? He obviously stated a high price but that doesnt mean he wont negotiate, everyone in business does it.Abegy free the man he knows his worth and nigerians know his worth too

  7. I think he really wants to coach the Nigerian team. Come to think of it,which foreigner would even agree to come to Naija with this Ebola outbreak, except na online coaching.

What the guy is asking for is not much biko,a white coach would ask for more sef!

Aunty Stella thanks for cooking soup with my comments...I refuse to grumble, though my tolerance level is low.

  11. True, his tail btw his leg now - and I bet his power to argue out a good contractual agreement is now weak... he is too proud. Maybe this might humble him a bit!!!!

  17. Tactically Kechi is not even very good. He made wrong decisions that didnt augur well with the team. The boys won d matches they did out of playing well and then some luck, not Kechi's sound coaching. If he wants to stay, well and good but if not, let him waka far.
Na wa ohh so na 30k usd dis guy dey collection per month. Hmm. Omo.

  20. Stella it is not about Keshi been disappointed in SA but our NFF should do the right thing. Both coaches and player heard of missing funds everyday, they are enriching themselves and not paying those working for them.Well i still have Doubt over keshi's technical ability for this modern day football.
