Shekarau, a former Kano State governor born on november 5,1955 was cleared by the senate and sworn in by President Jonathan as the new education minister.
Hmmmm....
Shekarau was born in the Kurmawa quarters of Kano, the son of a police officer. He was educated at Gidan Makama Primary School (1961–1967), then at Kano Commercial College (1967–1973) and finally at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1973–1977) where he received a Degree in Mathematics/Education.
After finishing his Degree, he went into the civil service. Later on, he started his career as a Mathematics teacher at Government Technical College, Wudil in 1978. Two years later he became Principal at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Wudil. In 1980 he was transferred to Government Secondary School, Hadejia, then to Government College Birnin Kudu in 1986, then to Government Secondary School, Gwammaja and then to Rumfa College in March 1988, all as the school's principal.
Shekarau became Deputy Director of Education in charge of Bichi Zonal Education Area in 1992. One year later, he was promoted to Director Planning, Research and Statistics in Ministry of Education. Two year later, he became Director General (Permanent Secretary), Ministry of Education and Youth Development.
In January 1995, Shekarau was transferred to Ministry of Water Resources, Rural and Community Development, then back to Ministry of Education in January – May 1997 before he was asked to moved to General Service Directorate of the Cabinet Office, all as Permanent Secretary. By February 2000, he was on the move again to Civil Service Commission, where he stayed for only four months before the civil service commission under Ado Gwaram Government sent him to the State College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies (CASRS) as Chief lecturer (Mathematics) at the Department of Physical Sciences.
In May 2000. Shekarau remained in this post for 17 months before he voluntarily retired from the services of Kano State Civil Service on 2 October 2001. Some time after quitting his post as Chief Lecturer, he decided to work as a secretary to businessman Aminu Dantata. He was employed under Dantata until he became a contender in Kano State's 2003 gubernatorial elections.
*Interesting profile,I wonder why he even ventured into Politics and what his achievement was as governor!......Anyway since he has been there before,he should know what to do and should start looking forward to ASUU making new demands because they always wait six months or a year and then they start their usual threat.
We expect some positive change.

ReplyDeleteApparently, from the pics being circulation on the social media, this clown was one of the book burners in support of anti- western education, so how can he be made Education Minister? Are we for real in this Country?
Where is salt?

He was principal before 30,that's should tell you he is brilliant... Please keep your religious sentiments one side.. Nigeria is for all tribes and religion. ReplyDeleteWas there hope before?
ReplyDeleteProfessors, seasoned technocrats have all failed Nigeria's education sector. What magic is an "I don't care" politician coming to perform?
Anyone that has the means should send his/er kids abroad to school. These politicians ain't loyal

ReplyDeleteHis CV is quite impressive.
ReplyDeleteGEJ is after power, money and position at dis movement. If he can achieve 4rm ordinary primary school teacher in 2015 abeg appointment is sure for the person
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:46am...I guess YOU are part of the problem Nigeria has. so after going thru his cv u still came up with that lame comment? u might be Amechi loyalist but u can still try every now and then to reason with ur own brain (or r u sitting down at home and allowing Amechi and his likes reason for you?)Who then wld you suggest as a Minister for Education? Nigerians should learn to support our President wen he does something good, when the terror attack happened in US, Americans stood behind der President, even in UK we were supportive of our Prime Minister, but in Nigeria people just sit behind der computers and spew rubbish without offering up solution. were did you stop in your education if I might ask?? Goodluck to the MInister and we hope he turns things round in that sector.
ReplyDeleteYou're very dumb, I reason with my arse you retarded fool..what qualificatiins does he have? Local qualifications..Most of his qualifications are within the northern region no experience outside his comfort zone so pray tell how he would govern the whole educational system in Nigeria? Please do tell you imbecilic moron, coming here to spew rubbish that I don't reason. My educational qualification is higher than yours cuz obviously if we were on the same level your brain would have told you he's not qualified.
DeleteAnd those with abroad/outside exposure that were there before him what did they do?
DeleteThis Anon is a daft person I swr... what do u mean by local qualifications? He is a seasoned educationist.... was a principal b4 30 I can bet my salary no body in ur family or village has or can achieve that daft bigots like u sicken me
DeleteChai! This country na wa o
ReplyDeleteHow can they make an aboki minister of education??
Hmmm dont expect any change from this mallam.
Oya now forward ur own CV if you have any na! Fool!
DeleteYour mind is small, it is so sad.
DeleteHis CV says a lot about him. He lectured for and taught for a long time. So let's see what he's going to bring to the table. All the best Shekarau.
ReplyDeleteSo because he was a lecturer it means he'll perform? How do Nigerians reason? Do you know if he's those lecturers that won't pass you if you don't buy handouts?
DeleteWe put our trust in God
ReplyDelete@amie Delia. What has Msc degree got to do with being appointed a minister. Having Msc doesn't determine beng good on the job. He got a first degree and has a lot of experience which matters more please. There are many secondand third degree holders who no little or nothing.
ReplyDeleteI see*sipsbayelsakaikai*
ReplyDeleteI wanted to cuss GEJ out for making him the Education Minister until I read his CV. Let's hope he turns out useful for the education sector oh! Nd d baga is my birthday mate sef...lol
ReplyDeleteEcht?? Odiegwu really.
DeleteHe will introduce sharia education.
ReplyDeleteSome times some of you think with your asses.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this one would make an impact. Some of these politicians go in with good intention and a will to make a difference and then they can't handle the pressure till they give in.
@Anon 7:46, whats up with the tribalistic name calling? is it only people from your village that are educated?
Lol...am sure ur raking in hausa accent. Looooool
DeletePolitics smells all around this appointment. Anyway, his profile doesn't look bad
ReplyDeleteHis face definitely doesn't fit his CV,i hope the CV was not 'bought' sha!!!

ReplyDeleteNO NO TO THIS GUY FOR AN EDUCATION MINISTER. HOW QUICKLY DO WE FORGET THE PAST. THIS SAME GUY SUPERVISED AND ORDERED THE BANNING AND BURNING OF SO MANY BOOKS AND NOVELS IN THE NORTH IN D NAME OF SHARIA. SO MANY MOVIES WERE DISALLOWED AND DESTROYED IN KANO STATE DURING HIS TENURE. IN HIS THINKING, WESTERN EXPOSURE IS SIN. PEOPLE SHOULDN'T READ FOREIGN BOOKS OR WATCH MOVIES.
IN A NATION OF SO MANY PEOPLE WITH DOCTORATE DEGREES AND EXPERIENCE, THIS IS ALL GOODLUCK J COMES UP WITH? AND U GUYS SAY UR PRESIDENT ACTUALLY HAS A PHD? HIS CRITICAL THINKING AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS ARE ZERO.(WELL, ITS A NAIJA PHD. HE SHOULD STOP RE-CYCLING THIS OLD GREEDY POLITICIANS. RECRUIT PEOPLE!! @LEAST OBASANJO MADE GOOD DECISIONS IN APPOINTING HIS CABINET MEMBERS. HE SOUGHT NEW FACES AND DISCOVERED AKUNYILI, OKONJO-IWEALA, EZEKWESILI AND D REST. ALL GOODLUCK DOES IS RECYCLE!
PLS SEARCH FAR AND WIDE! BRING BACK PEOPLE ABROAD TO OFFER THEIR EXPERTISE! IN THIS WORLD OF THE INTERNET WE NEED A SAVVY EDUCATION MINISTER. WE CANT BE MOVING BACKWARD WHEN KIDS IN AMERICA ARE DESIGNING APPS AND SELLING TO APPLE AND SAMSUNG!

These students have been at home since God knows when and u can't imagine how frustrating it could be
I'm hoping this new minister of education does something about this situation really fast
Infact I suggest u call him out, write a memo to him or something *but no be me send u oo*..LoL
Have a nice day ma'am...I love u and ur blog
it is obvious that this govt does nt have the interest of this nation @ heart.
ReplyDeletePolitical aggrandizement, the main reason why this man and d others were appointed by President Jonathan. The president is so much selfish and so mush rooted in winning the election in 2015, that he wont consider the implication of his policies or decision on the masses.(in as much as im okay, i dont care if my neigbour suffers).
All of you condemning this man so, I hope if and when he finally performs above expectation you will all come back here and retract your comments and apologise sha.
ReplyDeleteU WANT EVIDENCE AND U'RE ASKING ME? THERE'S NO WAY AM GIVING U LINKS, KNOWLEDGE IS JUST A CLICK AWAY, SO PLS CLICK. DUNT KNOW WHY GRADUATES ARE TOO LAZY TO GET FREE KNOWLEDGE EVEN FOR THEIR OWN SAKES. THERE ARE PICTURES OF HIM SUPERVISING THE BURNING AND ALSO PERSONALLY BURNING NOVELS ON THE INTERNET. (COS THEY ARE ROMANCE NOVELS) DUNT USE UR PHONE 4 BLOGS ALONE PLS.
ReplyDeleteOURS IS NOT A COUNTRY WHERE WE HOLD OUR LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE, SO AM NOT SURPRISED. WE ARE USED TO CELEBRATING MEDIOCRITY. SO U DILUTE WHATEVER U SEE ON THE CV AS PROOF OF SKILLS, WOW. I SHRINK IN SHAME WHEN SOME NIG GRADUATES COMMENT OR ARGUE. I THINK WHAT THEY TEACH Y'ALL IN SCHOOLS IS JUST HOW TO MEMORIZE AND MAKE A'S OR COME FIRST, BUH D CRITICAL THINKING/ANALYSING SKILLS OF MANY OF YOU ARE JUST ZERO.
GOODLUCK HAVING SUCH AN INDIVIDUAL IN CHARGE OF YOUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE.
Anon 6:18, yup! U heard me right OUR PRIME MINISTER! I was born in Croydon in England to an English mum and a Nigerian Dad, I live here, I pay my taxes to dis government so sweetie it ain't forming, it's just my right. Contrary to your myopic reasoning, I actually love my country of origin and can't wait to move back so don't let ur visa frustration cloud ur mind so much. Isn't it amazing dat out of all I wrote dat dat was the only point u picked??
ReplyDeleteHeard of dual nationality?? Lmao!
