SENATE Rejects Removal Of Oil Subsidy And Cited Reasons....

The Senate, on Thursday, unanimously rejected the recommendation of its Committee on Finance, which asked the Federal Government to remove the subsidy on petroleum products.

“If subsidy has to be removed, there must be public enlightenment and education so that facts would be made available to the people and then public opinion at the end of the day will count.
“If we sit here now and said remove subsidy, I think those who are benefitting from subsidy are very powerful and tomorrow they would influence media report and twist it to create an impression that the Senate is anti-people,” President of the Senate said in his remarks after the Senate had rejected the proposal for subsidy removal.

The finance committee had recommended the removal of subsidy on fuel because of the alleged misapplication of the billions of dollars being voted annually for that purpose......edited from here

  2. Of course they will reject it, since they themselves are benefiting from it, they don't care about the average Nigerian, if we had corrupt free politicians, I would have seen reasons with them, but they are all corrupt, so I smell something fishy in their rejection of the subsidy

  5. There must be public enlightenment before removal right? But we can't remember senate saying there must be public enlightenment before subsidy was put in place. Off-course both senate and house of assembly members are anti people if not why would one man earn millions of Naira a year while most of our youths on SDK are waiting for 100 recharge cards. People are soo poor that most now go to sleep without garri to drink, masters degree holders are without jobs,PHD holders are looking for any job to survive because they can't even afford it while you people's wives, kids and mistresses are enjoying our loot. For me those arms of government don't exist in short our government do not exist, our leaders are the MOST USELESS leaders in the WORLD Yes they are. Nigeria is not poor but it's citizens are very poor, poor because of selfish leaders. I have been soo sad/speechless to even comment here the past days because of the way things has worsen for the youths when I see people in need here it's ovious we really have problems in Nigeria. SDK they are not scared of anyone after all they make the useless laws to benefit themselves, most of them are benefiting from oil subsidy and Nigeria crises.

  7. these politicians are just stupid and wicked people. is it not the same subsidy removal that led to the increment in fuel price from 65naira to 97naira in 2012? so why are they still talking about it? are they going to revert the price back to 65naira? crazy, wicked and selfish people.

  8. Subsidy removal will affect the mass, when fuel price is increased, the powerful people is the masses that will riot and cause confusion and strike when that subsidy is removed. I thank the senate for rejecting it.
