Ebola Victim Cremated In Lagos

The body of the first victim of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria,   who died in Lagos on Friday, has been cremated.

Details of the cremation were not available at press time but Sunday Vanguard gathered that the eveny was witnessed by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the  Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, led by its Project Director, Professor Abdulsalam Nasidi, among others.

The decision to cremate the body of the victim, it was further gathered,   may not be unconnected with the deadly nature of the Ebola Virus which is known to be easily transmissible from human to human during handling of corpses of victims.

The World Health Organisation recommends that in communities where there is an outbreak of Ebola, appropriate containment measures including burial of the dead should be properly handled...vanguard

    1. Lord save us from retarded thinking. People have not just started coming from ebola red zones into Nigeria. This is the first DOCUMENTED case does not mean it is an isolated case.
This is why its disheartening that the Min of Health and other govt and private media houses are not doing more to sensitize people. That one case alone has been reported is not the end o.
Incubation period according to WHO is 2 to 21 days...he came on a plane with others.
The govt should tighten security on border patrol for incoming passengers from these ebola red alert countries. Gosh the brains of the people in power in this Nigeria are just as dead as dodos!!

  12. In this case, its the best thing to do. And I sincerely hope our immigration people are working in partnership with the ministry of health to check most flights that come in from these disease prone areas. Cos if this kind thing to continue in this country, it will wipe out people in split seconds. They should not try this stunt again, while we put our ears down to hear of measures to contain this deadly virus.

  24. Henceforth, the immigration should double check passengers coming in frm other parts of Africa, to avoid outbreak here. One time, the SA govt insisted Nigerians shud come in wt their Yellow cards and ppl who dnt have theirs were deported.

  25. Who knows where the cremation took place?
I fear that during the process of cremation even as the fire was depleting the body, a million ton of ebola virus may have been released into the air! What steps where taken to obviate this risk? Secondly, hope they send the ashes somewhere else! Cos the way things are going, one can envisage this ebola has taken the dimension of a plague! May the lord protect us ,amen. RIP. Helf uns!

  30. The west will not rest until it finishes Africa, so they can keep calling it the dark continent. Release a biological weapon in the sub region just to enable data gathering. Hope its just this man that was planted here to check how africa's largest population gets infected. Mad world!

    1. You know sometimes they even test their weapons of mass destruction in the 3rd world countries....this might just be a laboratory generated virus which will be used in the future for war!
Oh well, what do I know.. It just might be what it is,a virus just like the others we have come to know. hope a cure comes fast! Am so paranoid right now!

  31. He was an agent of death IMO.The devil wanted to use him but I trust God has taken care of the situation.I'm so livid at the fact that immigration authorities would allow any flight coming from that region to land in Nigeria without proper medical clearance of all passengers on board.oh lord in your mercies, hear our prayers. We just can't deal with this in Nigeria, not now! The country is in a state of uprising and our health sector is not equipped for this.oh God you have to protect us.We believe in you and only you,and do not let the whites ask us where is our God.Jehovah please prove to us that you're greater than their science and that Ebola died with Steven sawyer.Lord in your mercies, grant us peace!

  38. There are confirmed reports that the Liberian that was killed by the Ebola Virus Disease in Lagos some days back previously showed strong symptoms of being down with the disease before he was disembarked from the flight that brought him to the country. These confirmed reports noted that the Liberian at a point started vomiting/amidst coughing, etc. before the flight touched down at MMA. Now the point I am trying to make is; knowing how people seat in close proximity to each other in most commercial airlines, and knowing how contagious the Ebola Virus Disease has been said to be; isn't shocking that the health officials in Nigeria allowed the remaining passengers of that same flight to walk home without putting in-place mechanisms to monitor them for at least a few more days or weeks? Especially knowing that after an individual catches the Ebola virus, there is usually an incubation period of between 2 to 20 days before such an individual starts showing symptoms of having the virus. with this in mind, I think it would have been a wise move if the health authorities in Nigeria had informed the remaining passengers that they would need to be monitored in the coming days! What an opportunity missed. Or are they indirectly sending us the message that 50 more persons are now going thorough the incubation stage of the Ebola virus in Nigeria, possibly now interacting with others that wasn't in that flight, with the possible risk of potentially transmitting the virus to them? I hope not.
With all what you've just read, I sincerely HOPE that we are not getting set to deal with an epidemic in Nigeria.
