''Hi Stella, please I need your help.I'm a mother of a wonderful two year who is very agile and friendly.Recently I noticed that my child is always having painful bouts of very dry cough coupled with fever and loss of appetite, this has made her to loss so much weight.
I've visited three different specialists and they told me its bronchial sores.they all treated her for it but the problem is that it keeps coming back every month. Some people are saying it may be asthma?please how do I know its asthma?the three doctors have said its not,but what if they are wrong?
Please if you have any doctor friend that may help me please she seems to be wasting away.''

She may have bronchitis. Those r some of d symptoms. I used to have same symptoms when I was young but now am fine. I was miraculously healed.
DeleteShe'll outgrow it with time.
Madame, these symptoms sounds like TB to me ...and pls do an HIV test for ur child. I am nt bein insensitive, just stating facts.
DeleteOne other thing it sounds like is cystic fibrosis except that the cough is dry and CF is nt dt common in naija.
Anyways, make sure all inv r done before its too late. And pls has ur child been seen by a consultant in a teaching hospital???...nt private o...wld av offered to arrange dis for you bt its been 3 yrs since I left paeds dept in LUTH...
Just try and get a referral letter from ur doc...it myt take a while...bt before u conclude ders nothin wrong...see an experienced paediatrician.
There r couple of conditions that may present like this in children and dey wl go on der own wt time...bt dont conclude its d case until uv crossed all ur Ts.
All the best
Madam, first, never you say your child is wasting away. Wrong words from a mother to her child. Second If you dint trust the analysis here why not go to U.S? You'll feel more comfortable there. Also SA has very good paedoatrics hospital. Try those as well. But ultimately prayers is equally as important. You'll be surprised what a little fasting can do. God is ur strength.
ReplyDeleteYou are very stupid. Are you saying there's no competent doctors in Nigeria. Slavery mentality, everything Ian abroad.

DeleteUSA? Give her the money nau!
DeleteMy dear, if three doctors are saying the same thing, then there diagnosis might be correct, often, most kids suffer from bronchitis often tend to outgrow it at a certain age.Maybe Dr Okechukwu can enlighten us more.Permit me digress,Stella mistakenly deleted part of my first comment on Monalisa's post,I just want to use this this opportunity to resend it and say thanks.
ReplyDeleteDear sdk/sdkers
I wish to thank my fellow brothers and sisters for your love, prayers and concern while I was at the hospital.
I’m recuperating, though not 100 percent strong yet. I read this wonderful blog whenever I could with no strength to pen down a comment. Though still exhausted, I will make do with my energy tank reserve as the present situation yearns for deliberation. It was brought to my notice that someone else is using my name in Laila’s blog with the same profile picture (red paprika) and this same person tries to write like me. I’m sick and tired of the whole drama, at first, I was commenting without a google account, here comes the impostor, I took a google account, he/she tries to do the same using blogger buzz! I wish to categorically state that even though I read Laila’s blog, I do not comment on any other blog except sdk’s blog.
I wish to announce that any “The unquenchable pepper ose oku” without a google account is not me and I shall not in any form whatsoever be held responsible for his/her comments.

ReplyDeleteMadam go to a good hospital and treat your child. Stella is not a medical doctor nor her blog visitors. Some are just answering doctor for mouth here ooh.
ReplyDeleteGbam!!
DeleteHello mom,
ReplyDeleteThe symptoms ypu have described are not sufficient enough to say sge has asthma
The main symptoms are cough, wheeze and chest tightness usually worse at night. Asthma rarely presents with fever except when there is superimposed infection. A close differential of asthma in childhood is bronchiolitis which may be what she has. Hope there is no one with a chronic cough around the child? Tuberculosis needs to be ruled out too. That said, stella's forum will only help u put it out but you'll get so many conflicting opinions that you might end up with a migraine.
Please go to any teaching hospital around you...it may be stressful but it will be worth it.
Wish you all the best ma'am. Dr. GAS
Please get her tested for TUBERCULOSIS. You just mentioned the symptoms. Time is also of the essence so she can start immediate treatment........Best wishes
ReplyDeleteA thorough and proper diagnosis must be carried out immediately.
ReplyDeleteIt could be something else that
is triggering the cough as it has
taken a monthly occurrence

Again, such sudden ailment should be backed up with radical prayers, arms giving, fasting, deliverance, while you still seek a very good medical expert for a solution to your daughter health please.#cyberhugs

Good morning Sterra!
Take her to a very good hospital and run series of test on her abeg... make hay o n I wish her total healing in Jesus name
ReplyDeleteBuy an inhaler and see if she feels better. My son's doctor told me he wasn't asthmatic but he clearly was. Up to the moment we decided to give him the inhaler, we were always taking him to the hosp where he would be given steroids and oxygen. That's all in the past now. I don't know what criteria is used by the docs to diagonise an asthmatic patient sha.
ReplyDeleteWonders shall never end. You have only one child and you are seeking unprofessional advise after visiting 3 doctors. I trust contradicting medications will start falling in, even from auxiliary nurses and native doctors.
ReplyDeleteIf it means visiting 100 doctors to get your child well, please do so! Go to a teaching hospital and stop seeking advice from people who have not even examined the patient.

If u stay around ajah u can visit safeway hospital my son had it and he's fine nau.
ReplyDeleteThen go to a 4th doctor. common sense should tell you that. run more tests.
ReplyDeleteMake sure she's not exposed to cold. (Fan, AC, cold weather) I thnk it will help. U can even give her warm water to drink if possible. I dunno what d symptoms of ashma is tho Bt try read abt it online.
ReplyDeleteBy His stripes she is healed! Doctors in d house please advise oh .
ReplyDeleteLady, please visit a good ENT consultant. this is not a matter for 50 million online visitors to guess. Please any doctors in her area, please reach out and she can come see you.
ReplyDeleteWhen did this start?
ReplyDeleteI am not a doctor but I have had the same issue with my daughter sine May and it hasn't stopped.
It can be worrying and most times she throws up in the middle of the night.
she's been to Premier Speciaist and I was told its allergy caused by the weather and pollen in the air. she's on loratidine 5mls everynight.
she was given ventolin a while back and prednisolone and it stopped but she cant be on predesolone for long. so now its when the cough is persistent we administer Ventolin. I was told it will get better when the weather improves. She is 4yrs old
Note: she has never had this even when we travelled in December and the weather was bad.
Keep her warm, keep furs from your child, no teddy bear and all and keep her from generator smoke.
All the baest.
Poster read this comment please. My daughter had something quite close to what you have described and my GP referred us to the hospital for an xray also gave us prescription for inhaler (but we never used it) cos he said most kids with that symptom have what is called infant asthma and he mentioned it goes away with time but the inhaler will help.
DeleteOnce the xray came back clear I simply started giving her honey, I also bought a humidifier as I noticed very dry air causes the cough which usually comes at night. I also makes sure she drinks a lot of water and there is also water available when she wakes at night.
It's stopped now but she wasn't losing weight though.
Please see another doc , on the side you can try the honey and please lots of water. It could be the weather and it could be more. Don't take chances. God will surely touch her.
If you can't buy humidifier for now, try and improvise with a bowl, ,bucket or cup of Hot water cover it with towel in the room She or He sleeps, on the floor corner of the room.
DeletePLEASE OOOO do this when ur child is sleeping away from the child, this help to moist the room and prevent dry Air.
POSH MIDWIFE.
You live abroad or naija? Because using humidifier in an already hot climate without 24/7,electricity supply is not it!
DeletePoster, continue to try several doctors until you get solution. Best of luck!
I'm not a doctor but if you're in nigeria I'd suggest you visit a teaching hospital.
ReplyDeleteIt started as a flu for me, the cough I had was dry and painless, then it progressed with chest pain, series of fevers, night sweats and drastic weight loss (I'm 24 and I used to weigh 55kg and then I dropped to 45kg)
I was treated for malaria and typhoid on several occasions, then treated for pneumonia in a specialist hospital. I was tested for TB at the specialist hospital but all the results came out negative (I was slowly fading away and thought I was going to die) until I was asked to do an x-ray and further asked to go to the teaching hospital after my x-ray came out.
The doctors there told me to go off all medication for a week and a half then come back for tests (it was he'll, cos the medications helped relieve the fevers and cough)
I went back and all the tests came out positive for PTB (pulmonary tuberculosis)
I'm on treatment now and I've gained back the weight I lost and doing great
Teaching hospitals are very good regardless of the fact that their procedures are too long and the wait is endless.
God forbid but if it's asthma, start giving her honey nd ata ire,i don't know d English name,it works like wonder
ReplyDeleteDo u want to kill d poor child? Ataree ke? BV go to a teaching hospital ASAP.My advice to u.
DeleteAta Ire for 2 years old baby. *shaking my head*
Deletei am very sure the adenoid is inflammmed causing the cough to re-occur. a surgery is needed to remove it.its a minor surgery and the child will be fine.ask ur doctor
ReplyDeleteIs she having difficulties sleeping at night unable to breath well? if yes then its asthma.
ReplyDeleteAccording to your explanation I think its not asthma because when you have asthma you don't have dry cough, you hardly even cough u just find it difficult to breath at night and you can't even sleep. Am not a doctor, I av asthma so I know what am saying.
Hmmm*** I dunno bout this tho'....Some people here are gonna go all diagnose-me.com on you...(Coughing = Cancer.... Headache = Appendicitis... Lip Sore = Brain Tumor)... so maybe you should go see more doctors than hope to get anything from here...#next!
ReplyDeleteGo to a Teaching hospital. Or aa renowed Pediatrician. This is not a case for family physicians. You need to see a specialist. ASAP!.
ReplyDeleteUr daughter has tonsillitis. Google it thank me later. Btw my sista and dad had it too and had their tonsils removed.
ReplyDeleteDoctor Google! You try well well
DeletePlease quickly take your child to a teaching hospital where she can be examined properly and some test would be carried out. Private hospitals are good but in this case a teaching hospital is best because you would see a team of doctor. Your baby would be fine.
ReplyDeleteShe will not waste away in jesus name. Words are seeds, be careful what you confess with your mouth. I pray your baby girl receives healing in Jesus name.
ReplyDeleteMadam pls take your child to a paediatrician.
ReplyDeleteThe answers you seek will come from the hospital not sdk blog before you get more confused than you already are.
yeaaaaa..this sounds like my pepper!!!!! welcome back sweerie. hope u are much better?
Where do you stay Mum, I can be of help!
ReplyDeletePepper thanks for your shout out. One thing i like about you PEPPER is the ability to remember everyone on this blog no matter how they don't comment often...it is a nice attribute.
ReplyDeleteThere is no need to be harsh Maamie, acknowledge the shoutout and let it go...

Not every Nigerian can afford to go to US and SA for treatment. Madam i wish you luck.
ReplyDeleteMadam, take your child to general hospital or teaching hospital. I heard it's stressful but it's worth it. Without history and physical, and lab results nobody can make a dignosis on this blog not even me. Goodluck.
ReplyDeleteThey have the same symptoms.
ReplyDeleteAs others said, check him for TB.
You don't really cough with Asthma, you make more of a wheezing sound when breathing.
Pls go to any Teaching hospital for a proper investigations and also to rule out TB.Am not sure is asthma due to your listing here.
ReplyDeleteAnd also, hope all her immunization was done for her?* just thinking aloud*
*Wish you and ur Lil one d very best*
POSH MIDWIFE
Awwwww, it's a pity.
ReplyDeletemy dear take her to a teaching hospital n ve test conducted on her, even malaria test should be done too, while you back up with prayers.
ReplyDeleteMadam your child need much water ,,fruits,,and glucos,,dont give her any juice or any sweet bread but vegitables,,try it for one month and see results, and maybe give her egg every two days to add flesh,,goodluck from swiss
ReplyDeleteSorry for your baby's ill-health. God is control.
ReplyDeleteIf you have the resources, take her to Europe or India for proper diagnoses. Doctors in Nigeria are good, but sometime as a result of lack of equipment and other reasons, they misdiagnose. I pray for God's intervention.
Just dip half cube of sugar in unused kerosine and him or her to lick, do it twice a day for 3days. U'll testify. Thank me later.
ReplyDeleteStupid mother your child is wasting away and you have time to wait for blog visitors diagnosis and advice? Keep refreshing and waiting for advice since those 3 doctors are the only 3 doctors in the whole of Nigeria ....
ReplyDeletePepper ose oku....what is it with you and M-amie. this blog is big enof for all visitors to get a seat.....make una relax ooo
ReplyDeletePls seek a fourth opinion from a doctor. God please use both the doctors, medications to heal your child and grant the mother happiness in Jesus name, Amen. What mothers go thru, the love of a mother.
ReplyDeleteSo madam poster, are u now going to try all these suggestions on your poor daughter? Rather than using your time to look for good hospitals in your area, I guess you will use it to experiment everybody's treatment!!! You didn't even put your location so people could recommend a good hospital to take ur daughter for a thorough physical exam In your area becos u are hellbent on getting the solution online from people who haven't seen the child. If she's wasting away as you say, its all your fault!!
ReplyDeleteTake your child for ECG to check for any heart abnormality. The symptoms point to a hole in the heart that is why asthma and all other ailments have been ruled out. Children with hole in the hearts start getting tired easily and cough and eat less at the age of two. Go straight to a teaching hospital and find out. Hopefully it will not be a heart problem but if it is, this is the right age to treat it as children who are diagnosed earlier still have to wait till their second birthday to see if the hole closes on its own before treatment commences.
ReplyDeleteYou said: Recently I noticed that my child is always having painful bouts of very dry cough coupled with fever and loss of appetite, this has made her to loss so much weight
ReplyDeleteMy Opinion:
Madam,
It is a bit tricky reaching a diagnosis based on these symptoms of painful non productive cough;Fever, weight loss and loss of appetite alone. I would be wary of taking seriously any labels that people are throwing about with reckless abandon.
One can hazard a few differentials (possibilities) from the above but it will not only be irresponsible but typify the ''no consequences', 'waka-pass',unsupervised and unregulated medicine we tend to practice in Nigeria to do so.
It is vital that you attend your nearest teaching Hospital with your child for a Pediatrician to properly assess your child and advise you.
Do not allow yourself(or your child) to be a victim of the Neighborhood Awka or Ijebu Ode trained folks.
P:S- I had never heard of a condition called Bronchial sores- It might be a new one discovered along the Ijebu Ode-Ore axis, thank you for educating me!!
Please be wise. Your child depends on you to make the right decision.
