Confab Endorses Creation Of 17 Other States And Supports Rotation Of Presidency Among Zones

THIS IS A MUST READ....PLEASE DO NOT JUST SCROLL.READ!

The National Conference on Thursday voted for the creation of 18 more states in the country. The creation of new states was one of the decisions taken by the delegates at their plenary while considering the report of the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government.

Apart from the 18 new states proposed, the conference said a separate state-yet-to-be named should be carved out of the South-East to bring the number of the states in the zone to six.

In creating a new state from the South-East geopolitical zone, the conference said the creation would correct the imbalance of the zone having the least number of states.
In the existing 36 states arrangement, each zone has six states with only the North-West having seven states.

The new states proposed by the conference are: Aba, to be carved out of the present Abia State; Katagum, from Bauchi State; Ijebu, from Ogun State; Amana, from former Sardauna Province; Apa, from Benue State; Anioma, from Delta State, Savannah, from Borno State; and Etiti, from South-East.
Others are Njaba/Anim, from Anambra and Imo states; Gurara, from Kaduna State; Ghari, from Kano State; Adada, New Oyo from Oyo State; Orachi, from Rivers State; Ogoja, from Cross River State; and Kainji, from Kebbi and Niger states.
Two other states, one each from the South-East and South-West zones, are also yet to be named.... WHAT DIFFERENT WOULD THE CREATION OF NEW STATES MAKE?WHAT DO YOU THINK?

It was agreed by the delegates that the 18 new states would be shared among the six zones in a manner that no zone would have more states than the other.
Though it was also agreed that states were free to have their constitutions, the request to change the name of Adamawa State to Gongola State was overwhelmingly rejected by the delegates....GONGOLA?WHO PROPOSED THIS?

The delegates also voted that the Presidency should rotate among the six geopolitical zones of the country.

They said the rotation should be between the northern and southern regions.
It was also agreed by the delegates that in the case of death, impeachment or incapacitation of the President, the deputy would no longer assume office automatically.Rather, they said that the Vice President should only act as President for a period of 90 days within which another election should hold...BEAUTIFUL RECOMMENDATION

The delegates argued that since the office of the President would be rotated among the six geopolitical zones, it would be unfair to allow the Vice President to take the turn of another zone by automatically assuming power.
President Goodluck Jonathan, a southerner from Bayelsa State, had assumed the Presidency in 2010 following the death of former President Umaru Yar’Adua, a northerner from Katsina State.

The delegates rejected the proposal that the President should be in office for a single term of six years, and favoured the present arrangement of two terms of four years each.
It was also agreed that the President and his deputy should run on a joint ticket, thereby rejecting the recommendation that the President should pick his deputy among members of the National Assembly after he must have won....*CLAP*

The conference also supported the bicameral legislature. This implies that there would still be the Senate and the House of Representatives.

-It was also agreed that the office of the governor should rotate among the three senatorial districts in the state while the office of the chairman of a local government council should rotate among the components in the local government areas....WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS?

- The conference also recommended that that the Independent National Electoral Commission should divide each council to two or three equal parts as the case maybe for the purpose of electing the local government chairman.....WHY??

The delegates rejected a motion that the number of states in Nigeria should not be more than 55....WHY EVEN UP TO 55 IN THE FIRST PLACE?

However, a delegate, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, condemned the decision to create more states.
He said the action was at variance with the decisions and resolutions earlier taken by the conference on the need by government to cut cost...I AGREEE WITH YOU MR FALANA

The conference also said that a referendum should be conducted in each of the states that want to merge with 65 per cent of the eligible voters in each of those states approving merger and that the National Assembly, by resolutions passed by a single majority of membership, should approve such merger...HIAN!!!

On the running of local governments, the delegates said that states were free to create or reduce the number of local governments within their territory...NOOOOO

It was agreed that all government officials must use made in Nigeria cars...DO THEY MAKE CARS IN NIGERIA?

The conference also agreed that the old national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee…” should be adopted in place of the current one.

OLD -Nigeria we hail thee, our own dear native land....

NEW -Arise oh compatroits,Nigerias call obey.....

What difference does it make?this is the least of our problems please,NEXT!

Probably to show their preference for the old anthem, all the delegates rose to sing it to the surprise of the leadership of the conference.

Another delegate and a SAN, Chief Mike Ozekhome, who spoke tafter the plenary, said, “I stand by the recommendation; we have recommended that 18 more states and an additional state should be created for the Igbo, they are the only one with five states.
‘‘With 54 states I believe that government would be brought closer to the people.”..I BEG TO DISAGREE SIR,CREATION OF MORE STATE MIGHT JUST MEAN MORE TROUBLE

However, a Nigerian Bar Association presidential aspirant, Mrs. Funke Adekoya, SAN, said, “I don’t think that creation of more states will solve the problem of underdevelopment. I don’t think that it will solve the problem of bureaucracy in the society. What I think we should focus on is the delivery of dividends of democracy to Nigerians. I don’t support creation of more states.”...I AGREE WITH YOU MADAM   culled

    5. I have always maintained that confab is waste of resources and time bcos non of their recommendations will be carried out by politicians beside how could they vote in favour of state creation while d ones we have now hardly survive.if that must be done then Nigeria should practice true federalism..... And issue of inec conducting local govt elections should look upon

    1. I agree with all esp the deputy being president for only 90days. If we had this law since spineless gej won't be our president now. As for the creation of more states, I kinda see reasons most of the new states are the most revenue generating states so they want them on their own so other towns can flourish. As for aniocha they shld add asaba oshimilli and the rest ibo speaking towns bcuz most deltans(the urhobos and ijaws) don't consider them as deltans

    2. Madam stells I agree we go back to the old anthem this one lacks depth. They should also have changed our name NIGERIA that name wasn't coined by us but by the whites and the name is cursed

  5. What!!!!they are mad.......instead of creation of states why not.just.divide the country....
Creation of nee states will only split the south into tiny winie bits and this would lead to more disunity... Let us be frank what have the south gained from separating Bendel into Edo and delta?nothing from my own point of view...kano is still as it is kano sokoto is still as it is..

What on earth is rotation let the best man lead and once he doesn't steal everyone benefits...

  14. So these confab delegates are actually doing some work to justify their pay then,i tot all they were doing was drinking tea and playing scrabble(to whom it may concern).#eyelashes#
Well back to the matter:clearly the move to create more states has tribal/ethnic sentiment reeking all over it!its not only going to create more confusion amongst more local govts not nominated, its going to be another avenue for politicians to get quick monies into their leaking pockets!a total waste of an unequally shared resources!a big No! NO!
Btw what developments have dose have those recommended LG's for them to be called a State?so the govt will start spending to upgrade them again abi!#waste of resources agenda again # infact the only LG qualified to be a state is Aba,cos of its commercial and economic additions to the nation, all the rest should go and sleep.(dats if they should insist on creating any state).
In summary, this state creation dream' should just die a natural death, else every random unachieving LG will also wake up and asked to be made a state if they can make these others, which is true!and soon nigerians will have 100states with nothing to show for!dat will be original gobe'!,cos the suffering of the masses will have only increased! WE DONT NEED NEW STATES IN NAIJA!#operation kill this beer parlour state creation campaign talk'#

Bunch of retards ruling this country. I weep for Nigeria.

  20. Nothing wrong in having more states if that will enable development reach more people.... America is diverse and has 50 states and it's working.... If we practice true federalism as it should be then things will work out..... U can have more state and still reduce govt expenditure on governance.... Each state generate their own revenue, laws to suit their particular state etc......our problem in naija is implementing policy and governance..

I think d policies proposed are reasonable. Creation of new states will surely bring about development n hopefully more job opportunities. We cannot achieve everything @ 1nce but this is a good step.

  22. D rotation of power is just crap. If anything, it further widens the divide amongst nigerians. We all keep shouting one Nigeria one Nigeria, where then is the oneness if we agree that the presidency has to be by geopolitical zoning? because if nigeria were one, we all shud b able to vote anyone we feel is competent enough 4 d job irrespective of where the person is from. Competence and ability 2 deliver are the key things, nt whose turn it is to get his share of d national cake. Gosh! I just hate thinking abt nigerian politics and her leaders, d pain and frustration I feel makes me want to cry. I'm just weak. They are singing old anthem happily, drinking tea and doing all sorts while bombs are going off left right and centre. They just don't care. In the end, nobody really cares abt d masses, it's all 4 their personal gain. I'm just pained. It is well

Rotation of presidency among the six geopolitical zone is the best news I v had since today, omg I cnt wait for it to get into practice so that some of these greedy northerners who thinks that nigeria is their birth right will lie low.
Oooh what a relief, am happy they are doing something meaningful, thought they were busy sleeping their brains out.

  25. More states? Wow, God will help us o. I don't think creating more states would solve any problem. It would rather cause more problems. In fact I wish it was possible to scrap all the states and just remain as Nigerians. We would be one united nation under God lol. We would seize to see ourselves differently. Anyway, my opinion doesn't really matter or should I say THAT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS even though it is lol, but God will lead us to our glory. Amen.
