Pregnant Woman Commits Suicide ...OH NO!

A middle aged mother of one identified as Ometere Aduga, a 300-level medical student drop-out, has reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope tied to the ceiling fan in their family home at Igarra, the administrative headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government area of Edo State, southern Nigeria.

She was said to have hanged herself with the aid of a stool in the room before kicking the stool with her legs.
The deceased whose husband was said not be resident in the state, was said to be two months pregnant for a yet to be identified person.HUH?

It was alleged that the victim had, few days before the incident, visited a private hospital in the town where she was said to have told the hospital personnel of her intention to commit suicide because of the alleged pregnancy.

Consequently, she was said to have been counselled against it and told to report back on Monday for medical examination and further counselling.
Rather than report at the hospital on Monday, the victim was said to have dropped her son with a neighbour with the excuse that she was going to have her bath.

After waiting endlessly, the unsuspecting neighbour reportedly went into the victim’s apartment only to find her completely naked body dangling from a rope tied to the ceiling fan.

“Ometere was a very brilliant girl who was a 300 level medical student at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma but she was advised to withdraw due to health reasons. She had some mental disorder. She later recovered and got married. Her husband is not from here and she has been staying with her parents.

“One cannot really say what could have led to her committing suicide whether it was as a result of the pregnancy or a relapse of her mental illness,” a family source said.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Igarra, Hilary Udoh, who confirmed the incident, said: “yes it is true but the parents said it has happened and they have taken it in good faith. They are not suspecting any foul play.”culled

    6. May her soul rest in peace. Maybe she suffered from Antenatal depression.

7% to 20% of pregnant women suffer from Antenatal or Prenatal depression.

Unplanned pregnancy, difficulty getting pregnant, abuse, stress and worries are some of the factors that precede Antenatal depression.

    7. She should have been referred to a clinical psychologist for psychotherapy. This is another issue with the health care sector in Nigeria. It only focuses on physical health and ignores mental health. They shouldn't have even said she went for counselling cos that alone can make the "counselor" to lose his/her licence ( if he/she is even licensed in the first place). This is sad because she wasn't even put on suicidal caution. As the slogan goes "it is well"

Oh wow this one pass me o....whattt??! And to think she already had a son...oh no suicide is never the solution, wch kin wahala b dis now she killed herself and d little inside leaving her poor son to become motherless. Only God can console her family. Can't even say rip, God gave us d precious gift of life and no amount of problem is too big for him to solve either. Never give up pple, stay strong suicide is never the last option. *sad face*

  11. So sad she had to take another life wif her, I don't think it was a relapse of her mental illness cos she was sane enough to 've removed her child from seeing her gory action. May be d baby isn't her hubby's or d hubby is not taking well care of them, nonetheless, nothing is worth taking a life, be it urs/somebody's. Suicide is a double quick match to hell, don't do it.

  19. Rapid increase in hormone levels caused by the pregnancy may have led to her depression. If it were in USA the hospital would have held her on involuntary psychatric hold. Rest in peace. May God console her family and loved ones. Rose
