According to Akpamie the whistle blower ''This incident happened on Tuesday May 6,2014 when a student who is supposed to have been in final year (600level) in Veterinary Medicine was denied the permission to write his exams….
The student had a problem when he was in 3rd year and was not allowed to move over to 4th year so he had to repeat his professional exams starting from 2nd year .
After writing another first professional exam(i.e in third year 1st semester) he had incomplete result and he was forced to rewrite those exams, he did and passed to 4th year (while his real mates were in 5th year)
In Fourth year 2nd semester, during his second professional exam he fainted in the exam hall and was rushed to the University of Nigeria medical center Nsukka where he gained consciousness after some hours but was too weak to continue the exams.
When he resumed a healthy student and reported to the faculty, he was asked to withdraw from veterinary medicine ( this implied that he would
still be a UNN student but can never study veterinary medicine in UNN with his 2008 reg number)
He protested and begged for a resit of the exams he didn't write but the dean Prof. S.V.O.Soyinka refused out rightly.
After some time, he was asked to go back to Fourth year while his real classmates are in final year and the second class he joined are in 5th year.
He protested but no one did or said anything to help him …no one dares question anything Prof Soyinka says
After some months the student decided to go back to 4th year..
he wrote all their tests and during the exam period presented himself for examination only to be told that the dean Prof. Soyinka gave an order that he shouldn't be allowed to write the exam.
This got the student angry and the next day he visited the dean in his office to know his offence again, at the office the dean ordered him out not knowing that the student came with polythene bag filled with “hot shit water" ….
The guy became angry and stated shouting and quarrelling with Prof Soyinka and the professor quickly left his office and the student followed him threatening him, the dean started running for his life and the student pursued him into the fifth year class where they were writing exams and poured the hot shit water on him.
The smell paused the exam for about 30mins and the Prof called the security but before they got there the student was already gone..................................
The prof is alleged to have withdrawn two 5th year students with 2006 reg number from the faculty''

DeleteD prof is lucky, he got off lightly. In some schools he would have lost his life due to wickedness. Happened to a lecturer in my school OOU in Ogun state. This particular lecturer called ijaya feared by all other lecturers and students refused to clear some students 2 years after there mates have gone for nysc. He was visited by some boys 2 days to Xmas last year and was shot to death and d boys made it look like an armed robbery attack but everyone knew it was d students he refused to clear. Like seriously, y carry government work on ur head like it's ur father's company forgetting that d job will continue if u're no longer there. Mtcheeew!

In unical,my lecturer failed me in final year cos I've been refusing to slee with him since year 2. They didn't waive that course cos he was a devil incarnate. I told some boys,paid them 20k n they visited him at home. They tied him up,wee in his mouth n later shot him in the hands(they didn't tell me their modus operandi o). They warned him if they come again,they'll kill his wife n twin boys.My dear,the lecturer came back n all the students wey em course hold back were graduated in our extra year. The man is a Deacon in church now.

ReplyDeleteI just can't deal!!! In my department in medilag, not more than half of the class graduates every year, it's like it's a tradition. And nobody asks questions or queries these lecturers. More than half of an entire set fails a particular course (pha306) every year and nobody cares! It's just saddening mehn. Too sad. Sometimes these lectures will lose ur scripts and will still have the nerve to fail u! Ahn ahn!!! But sha, diaris God in everything dey are doing. I'm done!

ReplyDeleteAs a member of the medical corps, I have come across many half baked colleagues. The end result? Preventable deaths, misdiagnosis, New ailments(instead of proper treatment).
There should be no compromises or "corner cuttings" in the education of medics. If a student is good in clinicals and pathophysiology but bad in Pharmacology, he should'nt be allowed to graduate. The medical educational system must be an "All or nothing" system.
I have seen people die for no just reason in the hospital, case in point- A patient had a penicillin reaction(anaphylactic shock)and the doctor on call didn't know what to do until she died. Another doctor gave a post op patient a dose of morphine. When the patient complained of pain 3 hours later, another dose was given. The doctor didn't know that the minimum interval for morphine shots is 6 hours. The patient died- not because of the operation but from painkillers.
Medics(whether doctors- vet or otherwise, Pharmacists, Lab scientists, Nurses)should be rigorously trained and should know their onions before graduation.

DeleteYes. A doc killed my dad by admimistering an overdose of insulin. When my dad was slipping into coma,a RN that came with my mum was quietly telling the Doc that my dad was slipping away,that they should do this n that but the Doc got angry @ the nurse. My dad died.

We are trained as jack of all trades & master of all(as far as vet.medicine is concerned).That young man is obviously not capable of completing that course of study.The faculty had apparently endured & tried to prop him up but, he just was not able.We vets know if you can't cross clinicals,you get withdrawn in year 4 or 5.It is not negotiable.'I beg' no dey inside.We should learn to tell ourselves the truth & denounce mediocrity.This young man could have graduated by 'push push' & tomorrow, he'll be at an abattoir somewhere in the country & fail to notice an epidemic in a slaughtered beef animal,misdiagnose a clinical presentation of any of the several zoonotic diseases(from animal to man),become a lecturer & teach your kids crap or worse still,go overseas & make foreign vets wonder what kind of training vets get in our country.Lastly,what kind of serious minded student has the time to prepare a 'shit' bomb?
