''I am a Corps member serving at Ogbomoso North, Oyo state. There is a program for all Corpers called SAED where we learn different skills, like bead making, soap making and all. And we pay just N2000-N3000 naira, because those that teach us are corp members like us.
Recently, our LGI cancelled this group and made it compulsory for all corpers to pay N10,000 naira each for skills like tailoring, bags making with rope, making of bags with beads,small chops and all. We refused but he said there is no going back.
Most of us cannot afford this, we pay for accommodation, we run some professional courses, we send little cash home and also feed ourselves and we are also meant to save little change.
The monthly allowance is N19,800 and some of my colleagues have not been paid for months. I plead with NYSC Authorities to come into this. Thank you so much''.

DeleteI served in abuja and no, I didn't work my way to d capital. 19800 is so so small for corpersper month. You pay CDS fees, u feed,transport, accomodation dat is crazily expensive yet no state allowance. Being a corper aint easy and they still gat d mind to extol 10k frm them..they shud be hanged!!

ReplyDeleteI'm a corps member too, managing with #19,800 is difficult in a month. House rent, transport fare, feeding and so on. It's just pure wickedness for one LGI to do something like this.

The thing is NYSC is only trying to help corp membrs + this hand work r really xpensive so NYSC gefs u d Opportunity to get the training @ a cheaper Price. So my dear it isn't a must u do SAED if u can't pay go 4d Normal CDS

ReplyDeleteNYSC staff are just a bunch of extortionist. In Oredo LGA of Edo state where i served, if you miss CDS once, you had to sort your coordinator if not you'll suffer during clearance. NYSC is just a waste of time, if NYSC staff dont give you issues, it will be people at your PPA, im glad i've passed out.
