NIGERIA Is Better Than The Diaspora?.....What Do You Think?

Wilson Joel.

Stella ooo! E pele oooo! please see my status update on facebook...I will be GLAD if you HELP post on your BLOG ooo! Make people know say AMERICA no easy ooo! Because, hmmmmm people dey go through a lot to make it a day here o! Moving here should not be an escape route BUT who ever moves should know to be ready to work like 3 to 4 times harder than Naija. Biko, Help me help my people...I live in NAIJA AND  I LOVE NIGERIA!!!

So i read the status and kinda found it interesting that people who live in Nigeria think living in the diaspora signifies the end of the hard life.....for some home is best.....read and share your opinion.

''GIST : So i got a haircut in Houston for $15 & shaved my bia bia for $10 i.e N5,000. Abeg where is Daudu A.K.A infiniti my barber for obodo naija?! Forget o! My barber back home is very good and all i pay him is N500 for real! I am going to have to double that, seeing the kind of yamayama haircut (GORIMAMPA) wey i come yankee come barb o! LOL!!!! See me see wahala, No be the money dey pain me o, na the GORIMAMPA wey i eventually had to tell the barber to do jejelly before he go do me MO abi na NO- HAWK! LOL!

MORAL : You never know what you have until it begins to done on you that you are either #1.losing it, #2.about to lose it or #3. you've lost it totally! Wake up before you get to STAGE #3!!!!

So, to those of you screaming and clamoring for NIGERIA to split, think again IF you think those who live for "obodo oyinbo" are plucking money on the tree or doing "ABRACADABRA" . . . . As a matter of FACT and BIG KUDOS to them, i hail them oooo!!! To every NAIJA person living outside :LEGALLY & doing things with SANITY! Una too much ooooo!!!! House rent every month alone for a good one is from $2,000 (i.e N330,000)!!!! That's money for a one bedroom for an upcoming bachelor in Lasgidi!!! No be beans!

I enter BETA restaurant for Lagos, i no go finish N3,000 for a DELICIOUS HEALTHY MEAL! For yankee, no be so o my fellow NIGERIANS & AFRICANS before una tink say these people here dey do "Snake & Ladder" Mba o! Dem dey work very hard.....

For naija, you dey buy petrol for how much again??? Come here come ask how much petrol be! You tink say na 10 kobo?! My friend, let's think again o! You still want NAIJA to break? I am just asking?

For here to watch movie for beta place no be BEANS ooooo....For naija you dey pay N1,500 and you still want free popcorn oooo! Come try am here na!

You wan buy beta shoe for NAIJA, 10k for Balogun you don arrange BETA shoe wey i no know where the igbo guy wey dey sell am dey get am from...Oya come here na come buy shoe for store....just hold like $110 upwards for BETA one NOT "ABA MADE" Dem still dey so? I doubt am!

Ok,so you still wan relocate? Think am well o...Any which way, na your Choice. Whether na NAIJA you dey or OBODO OYINBO, ready to ACCLIMATIZE....#GBAM

Enoughsaid! #BRINGBACKNIGERIA #ThingswetakeforgrantedinNAIJA#NIGERIAgoSURVIVE #AMEN

And ehn ehn! MAke una no ask me "BROS WETIN YOU BRING FOR US O?" I go reply you "I GO AMERICA GO PLUCK MONEY FOR WHITE HOUSE?"

Abi o, help me ask am. Converting dollars to naira before spending. Abeg na naira dem dey pay u there bros. Abeg obodo oyinbo sweet n it is only hard for the illegals. The only thing you can complain about is bills but that is the reason why the system works here. Money is easier to spend in Nigeria because some eat the sweat of others but abroad, all you have you work for. My advice is for legal immigrant to go back to school to better acclimate with the environment and never leave above your means, America encourages "do it yourself" and you can easily get tools. Most people who complain about abroad are people who returned home due to their illegal status. If you travel abroad to visit or study, go back to your country when you are done. When you are a legal resident, you will be provided with tools to fit into the system.

When I migrated, people here where pushing me to do all sorts in the name of working. At a point, they murmured that maybe I was feeling too important to do menial jobs. But no, that wasnt the case, I thought to myself then that few years from then, my two kids would have grown and cost of living raised. My darling husband was lucky and got himself a job with the post office n I went back to school to read nursing. Today, by the grace of God, our income is more than enough to give us this comfortable life we have. We begged our parents back home to give us time to sort things. The mindset is so important. Come to think of it, most of us go to these countries with nothing, yet we survive, can the citizens of these countries go to Nigeria with Nothing and survive? @Mr poster, when you are in Rome, do like Romans. Seems you are prolly there to visit, sorry they spend dollars because the pay in dollars. You always have the choice of choosing where to be/live

I know some people that wants to relocate to naija and establish good business but the problem is electricity...
I have stayed in New york for 1 year and my experience was horrible..
I wore my natural hair for 6months coz I can't spend 200dollars which is 32k to braid my hair God forbid...at a point I even learnt how to fix my hair my self....
To buy naija foods na wire..come see price untop egusi..hian I no fit shout...
The only good thing I enjoyed was constant electricity and shopping coz I know where I buy quality cheap things...Abeg ohhh Naija till I die Or is it Uk that I wanted to die of boredom?..that's when I discovered this blog..

Bad roads, rubbish health care, highest level of corruption anywhere in the world, lack of security everywhere (at home, work, market, bank, church you name it!), polluted water and (not even enough to go around!), poverty rate is astounding, lack of good schools, police protection is nil, in fact, l'll stop here for now

  13. Funny write up, but its very true. The only time Nigerians in diaspora get to enjoy is wen they com back home for holidays, cos of d currency difference. Wen they're over there, its work frm morning til midnight, and u dare not enjoy cos u end up wasting the money u worked so hard for. If u re able to secure a good job here in Nigeria aftr sch, its far much better than travelling abroad, except if u re sure of a better job there. But in truth, white men see blacks as their slaves, so they'll nevr make it easy for u, or place u on d same level wt them. Thers no place like home finally

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Lyndy Mk, thank you for your honest comments. What our people fail to realize is that the white man looks down on black people and will never allow you become comfortable in their country. You will work twice as hard as him but will never reach his level in your career and will never be compensated like him. You will always feel like you are starting your career because he will never allow you to reach your potential.

      Delete
    2. Excuse me, l'm not sure you have even travelled to begin with for you to say people work from morning to midnight. Or it could be that the only people you know are those in care and "early momo". Abeg, change your clique and move with professionals(and l don't mean yahoo boys). There are lawyers, GPs, Accountants, IT specialists etc that have great jobs and work smart, not more. They take vacs like twice a year and enjoy life to the full. Pls change your mindset o and see the real diaspora, abeg!

      Delete
    3. Blacks should accept that they are their own greatest enemy and not the white man. Even in Nigeria, black man no go give fellow black man promotion. Even if Oyibo wan give you opportunity, na your fellow 9ja for office go tell am no and they sabi lie..kai
If you have a good job abroad please stay put, work hard and plan your life. If you have dual citizenship, get an expert position if you want to work in 9ja. The difference in wages bw Oyibo and a Nigerian is crazy even though you both have the same job title. This country is a joke!

    4. Spoken like a true Nigerian. You all and complex issues. Nigerians are here doing great while those of you that are used to Naija way of doing things keep complaining about being held down. Abeg sit down, there are many high achievers here in the US. Yes there is racism but it is even better than our tribalism. Stop listening to the gist from your lazy brother that did horribly here because he was busy chasing white women and not actually going to school. He probably bombed his interviews, our Naija people make it here Abeg o.

    5. Silly generalising. I left work at 6 got on the train and got home by 6.45. Some of you live in vi, work in vi and are still stuck in traffic. I've just had dinner and am now stretched out on my sofa watching sky tv. I earn only £25k a year and still manage to save £800 every month. Nigeria lacks way too many basic amenities to compare to even Ghana talk less of UK or US.

      Delete
    6. Anon 3.51 u obviously know labourers. If you as a black man are a victim of crime this same white men u so blatantly call racist will enforce the law to seek justice on your behalf. Does that happen in nigeria? Is poverty not a sin in nigeria? If u fall foul of someone with up to 5k (less than £20) in their pocket can they not get you arrested?
If you're not getting ahead in your career then u are at fault. FACT.

  14. Naturally, living in any society has its pros and cons.
Indeed it isn't easy living in the western world, cos you pay through the nose for all the amenities you enjoy.
But what of a society where these amenities (light, good roads, healthcare, social security, running water/drainage, etc) do not even exist, much less paying for them? I certainly know where i want to be, though the streets may not be paved with gold.

To do nails na fire, cheapest is £10, just to change ur polish is £5 (that is d same amt I spend to do full set in naija wit change) eh I don't wanna enter food it's crap, not fresh and damn expensive. I see my bro and sis here working 10hrs everyday and yet they can't save enuf cos rent, transport and food finishes d salary. So my dears in naija pls staty where u are & make d most of it. 32. but thats a well known fact now,
as a fresh graduate living in Yankee, I was earning $5,000 per month , babe I thought I was balling, until I paid almost $1500 in taxes, my apartment costs $1,000/month, got my car $200/month, started paying car insurance $200, health insurance $100,feeding $400/month, used to send $500 to my folks, gas to and from work(a one hour drive) $150, hair $100/month, that is minus all these small small spendings. peeps be calling me from naija to send money to them, and they never did understand that I just couldn't.

Fast forward couple of years down the drain, I relocated, got a job, it was a bitter pill to swallow to earn 200k per month for entry level, I got relocation allowance and paid my rent for the year, babe because I don pay rent, got car allowance buy car, I could not believe that I had almost $1,300 in my hands every month to just do whatever.

check am $5,000 a month in yankee and pretty much no savings and stress boku versus $1,300 a month in naija obviously with the relocation and car allowances I got makes my life much easier.

Needless to say, growing through the ranks, I was able to make major investments, buy a house, and I travel twice a year to whatever location I want to.surely Naija is the best, its a no-brainer the stress in yankee is just too much, miss out on your bills for just one month and watch how your credit ratings will collapse like a pack of cards, even having an effect on your ability to get a job in future. P.S I am a citizen oh and suffer boku like this, imagine what those without paper are going through, SIGH

My cousin who is a qualified doctor just got his first job in a Nigeria and his monthly salary is 150,000 .In America ,even garbage disposal men ,illiterate store keepers makes more than $2,000 monthly, their children attend public schools free. Yes,they work harder than those living in Nigeria but in America there is dignity in labour and job security,so many things one can enjoy.

    1. My first time commenting and its only to tell everyone that you are a LIAR. You are worst than the devil himself. You are a LIAR. A very big lie. If you were near me and you made this idiotic comment, I would have slapped you so hard, just out of principle. You are a LIAR. Which store keeper makes $2000? When the minimum wage signed by obama justbarely Iincreased over 8 bucks? Guys do this calculation and you will know where you fall. Say you make $8/hr × 40 hrs/week = $320.00. Say you get paid bi-weekly, that's, $320 ×2 =$640.00 bi weekly. Say you live in Delaware with no state tax, only have to pay Federal tax, so you have $640×(31/100) = $441.60.
So, you pay in 2 weeks is $441.60 ×2 = $883.20. This means a store clerk makes approximately, $883.20 in a month. This person in America is considered living below poverty level, in other words, wretched, poor. There are Nigerians making this amount. Only reason they are able to send money home is because they are on welfare. Welfare is for the poor people. The government gives you food, a card to use to shop at walmart and other stores that accepts government credit cards, you have goodwill to provide clothes and shoes for you. You live in Section 8 homes where the government pays for your housing. They even give you money for riding on a bus. Now, I don't mind the govt paying welfare but dawgannit, for mofo's like you riding on my back and my taxes and you come on here to gloat about finances that you're not making? Im very educated with a Masters and im barely comfortable. I want to move back to Nigeria, I just cant afford the flight and the cost to live until I secure a job. I swear, if I see one more idiotic, false comments on here from lying ass Nigerians, im gonna choke someone. Enough with the lies. I no, im not fresh off the boat either, I went to high school, college and had my masters here. Guys, take it to the bank what im telling you. Better to come visit than to loose you life in Nigeria only to come here and get on welfare. Nigerians, its embarrassing when you guys bring out your card. Go back home. Its obvious its not working for you here and let people in Nigeria know its not easy. Some Nigerians dont get to work until 10am in the morning, what? Come here and try that rubbish and see if you will still have a job. Oh this guy just made me mad this morning. Im gonna go take my chill pill and simmer down.

He sends over $2K home monthly and he travels to Nigeria twice a year. We the family live very comfortable here in Nigeria, a very good house, cars and all. FYI he didn't school abroad, he relocated because it was the wise thing to do. The only reason I'm still here is because of NYSC, once I'm done it's goodbye Nigeria. 51. Yes home is home but Nigeria is too stressful for one to leave all his life. Nigeria is expensive more than abroad depending on where you live, you cut your hair with 500naira at mainland at the island you are charged 1500 sometimes 2000naira that's $12 for same hair. If you want good hair cut visit real Akata's barber shops not Nigerians because our barbers abroad just learnt the trade abroad can't cut well and they cut hair abroad because they have no alternative work in some cases.
When it comes to rent it depends on where you live in Nigeria, when you pay rent at lekki for 2.5 to 3million for a decent home it's same as paying $1800 monthly for rent in America or £1100 in London unlike mainland where you can pay less than 1m for rent. Everything in life is level, what you can afford and how best and where you want it.
The best thing is to have access to both world because your traveling outside, you are learning things and being exposed to the world and other cultures. I hate abroad because of loneliness, unwanted daily letters unlike Nigeria no postman's letters, abroad no family to talk to when you need them. While Nigeria situation is more worrisome lack of electricity, security, jobs, healthcare, bad education all this can cause frustration, anger and early deaths. Is true people work 2 to 3 jobs in Yankee unlike Europe you do just one job in most cases and Americans take more credits loans than Europeans and Nigerians back home so they need to work their ass to repay credits.
I can leave on $100 weekly abroad just keeping low profile but it can never happen in Nigeria. You spend more daily on peoples need than yourself. I love my access to both world and a bit of Nigeria wahala. Every Nigerian loves home but our problem is leadership if we have the best men/women in power working for the goodness of Nigeria honestly, you won't find any Nigerian abroad even when you travel you will return back like Arabs that travel to London during summer period do. Bad leadership and hunger drives everyone away from our once beloved country.

  64. It's sheer economic ignorance to directly convert $$$ to Naira and use it as a measure of standard of living. The two economies, US and Nigeria are very different, so its not exactly the same as saying $25 amounts to 5000naira. U need to be an economist to understand what I mean. Minimum wage is 7.25$ per hour in my state, that amounts to 1200$ if u work 40hours a week, that's over 200,000naira, and I am just a student worker..but then there is opportunity cost, forgone alternatives. what that amount can do for u here is different from what it can do in Nigeria. U also forgot all the good things that can be bought at a cheap price cos it is a productive and growing economy...

  65. Standard of living anyone? You don't compare two economies by simply converting their currencies!

  66. WELL I HV LIVED IN BOTH PLACES. I LOVE NAIJA COS WE ARE DRAMATIC PEOPLE AND HOME IS HOME. BUT I LOVE AMERICA TOO COS AFTER LIVING HERE FOR A WHILE, U BEGIN TO SEE HOW HUMAN BEINGS SHOULD LIVE. THE ECONOMY HERE IS BETTER, ITS A PROGRESSIVE ONE. NO ONE HUMAN BEING..NOT EVEN THE PRESIDENT CAN BE RICHER THAN AMERICA OR THE INSTITUTIONS, COMPANIES OR BANKS THAT MADE AMERICA GREAT, COS THE MOTIVE IS TO MAKE THE UNITED STATES POWERFUL&RICH. SO THE ECONOMY PROGRESSES, NOT JUST INDIVIDUALS. HERE, GOVERNORS ARE SUED AND CHARGED, NOBODY MESSES WITH THE LAW. A CHURCH, A MOSQUE AND A BUDDHIST TEMPLE ALL STAY ON SAME STREET WITHOUT FIGHTS. EVERYBODY IS ENLIGHTENED. NOT THAT AMERICANS ARE NOT CRAZY, OH YEAH THEY ARE, THEY ARE THE CRAZIEST PEOPLE, BUT THEN THE LAW WILL GET U, SO U CONTAIN UR CRAZE. NIGERIA WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT, BUT NIGERIA SWALLOWS HER YOUNG ALIVE. NIGERIA WASNT SET UP TO SUCCEED. IT WAS SET UP FOR THE INTEREST OF THE BRITISH. AFTER INDEPENDENCE, FOR THE INTEREST OF THE MILITARY. THE INTEREST OF THE COMMON CITIZEN HAS NEVA BEEN CONSIDERED, NEVER. IT'S EASY NOT TO FEEL IT IF U HAVE NEVA LOST A FAMILY MEMBER TO INSECURITY OR RECKLESS DRIVING. IN AMERICA, HUMAN LIFE IS SO VALUED, SO VALUED. HUMAN DIGNITY IS PRESERVED. ALL WE DO IS PRAY IN NAIJA, PRAY FOR THE THINGS THE GOVT SHOULD BE DOING. NO GREAT COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON AMENS AND PRAYERS, TYHEY WORKED FOR IT.
I DONT ENVY AMERICA ONE BIT, COS THEY WPORK SO HARD, NO SPACE FOR LAZINESS, LECTURERS SPEND THEIR TIME IN LABS RESEARCHING FOR HUMANITY...NAIJA LECTURERS RAPE STUDENTS..SO WHILE U STAY THERE CALCULATING THE $$$ EQUIVALENT IN naira, ALSO CALCULATE HOW MUCH UR LEADERS HAVE STOLEN AND ARE STILL STEALING FROM THE CARCASS CALLED NIGERIA

  68. IN NIGERIA THE GAP BTW THE RICH & POOR IS SO WIDE. THE POOR ARE ANGRY & MISERABLE, THAT IS WHY ITS A LOSE-LOSE SITUATION. NOBODY WINS. YOU MIGHT BE LUCKY AND RICH/COMFORTABLE, RAISE UR KIDS IN THE BEST SCHOOLS &ALL, BUT THAT CHILD ACROSS THE STREET WHO WAS BORN POOR, WILL ENVY YOUR KIDS AND WILL STAY ANGRY AT THE SOCIETY FOR DENYING HIM FOOD, SHELTER, CLOTHING, CHOCOLATES, ICECREAM..THAT CHILD WUD DIRECT HIS ANGER TOWARDS UR RICH HAPPY KIDS, AND ONE DAY WHEN UR RICH HAPPY CHILD BECOMES A SUCCESSFUL DOCTOR OR BANKER, ANGRY CHILD AND HIS FRIENDS WOULD DUPE HIM, OR ROB HIM AND KILL HIM, OR KIDNAP HIM..SO AN ECONOMY THAT DOES NOT PROGRESS IS DOOMED. IN AMERICA, EVERYONE HAS A PURCHASING POWER, NO MATA HOW POOR U ARE, FOOD IS CHEAP, ALMOST FREE, WATER IS AVAILABLE, ELECTRICITY IS CONSTANT, LOANS/SCHOLARSHIPS ARE THERE FOR YOUR COLLEGE..(EVERYTHING U NEED AS HUMAN TO MAINTAIN UR DIGNITY IS AVAILABLE) SO U DONT STAY ANGRY AT THE SOCIETY, EVEN IF U ARE,AND COMMIT CRIME,JAIL IS LIKE A REHAB CENTER..BUT IN NIGERIA, CRIMINALS LEAVE JAIL WORSE THAN THEY ENTERED, THEY RETURN ANGRIER THAN EVER, UNLEASH HAVOCK.. AND SO THE SOCIETY IS WORSE. AND ALL THE THEIVING ELITE HAVE THEIR HOUSES AND KIDS ABROAD. ALSO, THE AVERAGE AMERICAN IS HONEST AND ETHICAL, STH U DONT SEE IN NAIJA EVEN AMIDST ALL THE CHURCHES COS OF THE DEPTH OF HUNGER AND CORRUPTION.
(BUT PLS DUNT COME TO AMERICA IF U DUNT HV MONEY OR A DEGREE, COS ALL SAID N DONE, AMERICA CARES FOR HER CITIZENS MORE THAN IMMIGRANTS/ALIENS OH)

  71. And so this carcass of a country celebrated Children's day the other day..celebrating what? Over 200 children still missing, am sure most of them have been molested and endlessly raped or sold into slavery or as brides..in Benue state children have not been in school for over a year, some of d politicians who should correct this are busy marrying and divorcing children...pedophiles! The only reason the President cared was cos of the massive #bringbackourgirls campaign. If not, OYO is ur case. It took them 2weeks to respond. For children! Lord have mercy! Our leaders should bow their heads in shame. Killing dreams due to their greed and incompetence and cluelessness. Nigeria is the worst place to be born in our times. Come and see how kids are treated in America! They catwalk while crossing the roads cos the cars MUST STOP! NO MATA HOW CRAZE DEY WORRY U! And tomorrow, they will celebrate democracy day abbi? All Nigerian flags should be consistently flown half mast, in fact they should have been half mast since four years ago..
Am not so much in support of immigrating abroad, but a country that cannot secure citizens has failed. how can u go to bed knowing u can be killed in your sleep? How?
So y'all, leave Nigeria while u can!

  72. all of you complaning of the amount you spent compared to if you were in nigeria, you wont be spending that much,..thts all rubbish.
if you working legally and not living with parents or family, its the same in both country. you will have to pay through everything you get. the difference there is that in nigeria you can get away with so much not to pay for. and as for electricity, you will have to buy gas almost daily and cost of living is way off the racket.
so much job opportunities in most of the western world that people rather become illegal just to gain access to the country and enjoy them. if they loved nigeria where they not illegal, why cant they just stay there and remain hopeless.
the cost of good living everywhere is not cheap and by the time nigeria gets to that level with less access to fraud by everyone, almost everyone will start complaining the high cost of living in nigeria.
    moral: nothing good comes cheap.
those who came to the uk to study, why not study in nigeria where the cost of everythng is better>???

Better be objective and upgrade your thinking so that you can get Nigeria to that giant of africa it should be

'in naija, no racism, no psychopaths dat full America and UK, not 2 talk of spending ur hard earned money on tax, u even pay 4 parking ur car at a shopping mall'

In naija, plenty tribalism(hurts more than racism)
psychopathsin naija are Boko Haram, ritualists and kidnappers that full everywhere.
Hard earned money on tax ensures good roads, health care paid lecturere and policemen, electricity etc

  75. My candid advice is this, if you have a good job in Nigeria that can enable you run generator for 24hrs, live in a secured environment, maintain your car, take good care of your family, and save for the rainny day, then you can stay in Nigeria , if not, find your way o.

The disadvantages of living in Us are as follows:
You will be treated like a Subhuman by some racists
    Boredom
    Strict regulation on businesses
High cost of domestic helps, so na you go be houseboy/house girl, driver, cook, etc,

  76. The poster is ranting cos he probably does odd jobs. There are good jobs in corporate America,if u have your degree and you are well trained. If you are not too flamboyant, you will save, invest and live a good life. For me,home is where i live a good and comfortable life.I have nothing against living abroad. It's a good life compared to living in Nigeria. You can be wealthy in Nigeria but not have peace of mind because of insecurity.I know some friends that live in nice areas in Lagos that said that the only time they sleep well is when they travel abroad just because armed robbers have visited their homes in Lagos before.
Having said this,i think It's whatever rocks everyone's boat. This poster should not discourage people just because he is one of the people struggling abroad. He should go back to Nigeria ASAP.

  77. Me and my family just relocated back to Lagos from USA, Houston to be precise. Our people are fake!!!!!!! Very fake that you'll wonder if it's the same USA you're in. Anyways, take it or leave it, I have USA passport and my wife and kids do too. I worked as a director for a car company. The more i was promoted the more i paid taxes and bills... Whoever lies to you that they are comfortable on even a $3,000 per month salary is just a dare devil trying to pull you in. In less than 2 years of moving here, I have a house in my name, the one i bought in Houston is still there, unpaid till today... I still owe 55%, in Nigeria, you either become really strong or become totally stupid. The writer is on point yo!

What about the over 100 million Nigerians who live on less than l dollar a day and have no means of making it? So are you implying that if they have an opportunity to travel and have a decent life, they shouldn't take it?

I am still very sure that a LOT of people get jobs without connection regardless of what you write here and who says theres no racism in the US/UK? Dude wake up as a US citizen I was discriminated upon simply because my "accent" was thick and I didn't school there.
Where was i going to afford money to go to school, I had to apply for student loan, even whitys are neck deep in debt, student loans etc. I imagine those in the US without papers, I cannot imagine how they do it. Siddon there dey deceive yourself.

    @ Teni,
pray, tell us your story, how did you house yourself and pay your bills when you were "improving" yourself. Pls be truthful to yourself, did you get any form of assistance , monetary, housing or the likes, if you did, you CANNOT compare yourselves with the bulk of people relocating from Nigeria who will probably not get that kind of help. Now that things are all rosy, you're talking trash about discipline et al.Just thank God you probably didn't have plenty commitments and dependants back here in Nigeria that have made the bulk of immigrants work 2/3 jobs, just be thankful to your God .

@ ANON 4:34 PM IN CAPS, Yes the professionals make that no doubt, but you do realize how much of their take home is eaten up by taxes, almost a third, check am.Pray, tell how Your so-called cousin earns $8,000 per month , did he not school there, please his arguments are mostly on illegal immigrants, how on earth is an illegal immigrant meant to cough up $30-40 grand to go to school , you dey craze ni, how dare you compare your cousin who is most likely a citizen, a spoilt brat or he took up a student loan to get to that position, also before using your cousin as example, also let us know how much student loans he has incurred as well as credit card bills, secondly most first time buyers are sure to get between $3-9 grand back from the government which i impossible if you're not a citizen, he probably took a 15-30 year mortgage and will pay for that house for the rest of his life,he probably is paying monthly for his car, ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME, Is that success to you?

Success is being 30+, debt-free, 2 houses in choice location, sound education in naija, asters and short courses abroad,2 cars paid in full ,I might not have tens of millions in my name but there are few continents in the world I haven't been to, and no my father no get name, me set no get name, Im not married to Dangote, neither am I a runs girl. God has been faithful to me

If na money issue, Naija is a no-brainer, however when talking about security and the likes, of course you can give sound arguments not minding the psychopaths roaming the states.
    I rest my case!!!

  83. @4:54pm I understand but you have to agree there are some truths in what he is saying. folks shine your eyes if you are planning on coming over. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Have a plan if you are coming over. I live stateside, are there times that I wish I was back home, yes. But I have paid my dues here, I was one of the few that came here for a tech job, after a couple of years went to a top ten business school. Now I work in a tech company, making six figures and have a very flexible work schedule. there are days I work from home (wink, wink) and others (though rare) I don't go in till late morning. Granted though I still have to live below my means, some of my guys back in Naija are pretty well off hence the wishing sometimes. But no regrets coming over here especially when I think about future for the kids. Bottom line, have a plan and work the plan. Life can be rough if you become illegal through overstaying your visa. Above all trust God, if it is his will for you to be abroad and not by your force it will all work out. If not his will, even in Naija it will still work out.

Like I said its not like its that easy but alubarika lo ju. All I'm saying is that Mr poster shouldn't discourage people from coming here. Its not that bad. U don't av to go back to college. I still prefer diaspora because of peace of mind and security, though the money is not there, am comfortable and happy.
I learned to barber and shave my hair myself.
    I don't club or party.
I look for good bargains during holidays like the memorial day that was celebrated.
I save most of my income return tax.
I send a fixed amount to Nigeria.
I reduced my chatting online to avoid peeps asking for financial help.

  90. Smh ... This guy is soo misinformed

First of all to survive in America you need to get your priorities straight ,you want to live in a $2000 apartment? Then find a third and a fourth job besides it's only when you don't have even a college degree that you won't need 2 - 3 jobs ... So get a degree!!!

When I wan in Nigeria I used to cut my hair with 1500-2000 depends on where I go and who I tip

Movies tickets vary and you can sign up for deals movies range between $5-$18

Clothes are about the cheapest things here cos in Macy's alone you can buy cloth with as little as $5 and good quality o

Now you talk of petrol it's $3.59 / gallon (depending on the state o) oga a gallon is 4liters pls do the conversion and tell me how much difference from Nigeria

Here you have a system that works , no generator noise ,good transport system and lots of recreational activities ... I don't see why someone should suffer at work in a day and yet you won't see light to have chilled drinks in your fridge or iron your clothes so mr.man chill ...

People who are having it rough r suffering because they don't have green card but if you can get a job that brings in atleast $45000 a year you can survive now imagine you and your wife combine that's $90,000 a year life will be easier!
