Daily Show host Jon Stewart found himself with two choices regarding the #BringBackOurGirls online campaign: either he could side with activist Malala Yousafzai, who expressed solidarity with the drive to rescue nearly 300 missing Nigerian girls, or with conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, who called First Lady Michelle Obama’s own gesture of solidarity “pathetic.”
“So that’s our choice: Malala, or Rush — the quivering rage heap who is apparently desperately trying to extinguish any remaining molecule of humanity that might still reside in the Chernobyl-esque superfund clean-up site that was his soul,”
Stewart said. “Who should we choose? I don’t know, why don’t we tweet our votes to hashtag #F*ckyouRush.”
Stewart was also surprised that the campaign took hold on Twitter, where activists have been pushing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and other world leaders to save the girls from the radical group Boko Haram after the Nigerian government downplayed their abduction for three weeks.
“I owe Twitter an apology,” he said. “You’re not just for casual racism and d*ck pics.”
He also mocked Boko Haram for “trying to convince the world that [they're] such bada*ses,” only to highlight the bravery of the children they have taken.
“Compared to a teenager who knows that her desire for an education could get her dragged into a snake-infested jungle to be sold as a bride by some demented, stick-chewing cartoon villain, but still gets up and goes to class every day fully aware of that danger, compared to their courage, I’d say Boko Haram is a bunch of little girls,” Stewart said. “But you know what? You don’t deserve that compliment.”culled
*well well well.......only one part caught my attention.....''downplayed their abduction for three weeks!''
The last 2 paragraphs caught my attention.
ReplyDeleteYes social network has it pros and cons, of recent times, the cons of social network have been outweighed especially in Nigeria.
The last paragraph : I agree they don't deserve that compliment, they are just fools, cowards. Those little girls they captured had the courage to go to school, to write their exams in the midst of the crisis surrounding their state. Brave girls indeed!
I have learnt a long time ago that, its not everybody you see in the world today that is sane, most humans are mentally retarded, so its best to let them be

Nice one
ReplyDeleteJon Stewart is ace and his sidekick Stephen Colbert is just as good. They present real news in a snarky way.
ReplyDeleteGive him any opportunity, he will finish Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove. Moronic neo-cons.
#bringbackourgirls
ReplyDelete...But give me letterman any day!
ReplyDeleteRush to Death Limbaugh is a demented notorious lunatic. No one should pay attention to him. If you do, he feels relevant. Charles Limbaugh is a product of a bitch.
ReplyDeleteYou can't compare the two.
ReplyDeleteStewart does News Comedy.
Letterman does Talk Shows.
Massive difference. Except you don't know the difference.
