ATTENTION INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE - Police Killing Of Oyoma Edewor

These days it would be hard to see the common man dying from hunger in Nigeria...you are more likely to be snuffed out by the very people who swore to protect lives and property in their Fatherland....The Police have become a menace to the society and i appeal to the IG of police to attend to this virus of killing innocent Nigerians before it gets out of hand..or do we only rise up to the challenge when we are personally affected....this is sad.Oyoma Edewor was killed for trying to explain himself to the Police....

I got this in my inbox from Oyoma's friend who is angry and sad!

''Someone I grew up with was killed yesterday by the police. He was raised in festac and was killed in festac by the same people who are sworn to protect us. His car broke down and he called a towing van. While on their way, they were stopped by the police. The driver of the van refused to stop for whatever reason. When he eventfully stopped, the driver ran out leaving Oyema and his friends to deal with the police.

They were Asked to sit on the floor which they did. While explaining to the officers what had happened, one of them opened fire in Oyoma. The crowd which had gathered seeing this got involved. The policeman said he suspected he stole the vehicle. If you know festac, you would know it's a small community. Passerby identified him as a member of the community. When the police realized a mob was growing, they fled the scene. Word spreading now is that the policeman was drunk and off duty.

This is not the first person being killed by the police. Its very sad this is still happening. The IG's son was involved in a crash, it's news but someone's child was murdered in cold blood and there is silence. Oyoma cannot die in vain. Let the authorities hear about it. The blood of the innocent are being shed. RIP Oyoma''

    3. Oh my God! Another innocent life lost. It. Was God that saved me and my family on the 10th of May from these heartless police. On CMD/Shangisha road,on our way to Caleb international School for their entrance exam for my boy. We didnt knw the route to the school, and we aked some people who directed us to the road. As we were going we saw some cars on qeue, and the front was free, there was also a turning to the left dt link to the express so my husband was like why are cars not moving when d traffic was free in the front, maybe they are going tothe express. So we over took the cars. As we were just going, suddenly we saw an okada man overtaking us with a policeman with Gun pointing @ us dt we should turn back,I was like oga, what Is our offence, chei! See as his face don change,he ordered us backwith his gun @ us and my children ages 2,5 and 9years were crying daddy pls turn back dont let him kill us. At that point, we turned back and link the express and start the journey afresh not knowing where we were going was not far from where he ordered us back. My son was was late. For the exam but we were happy dt we are alive. He got the admission too. What am driving @ is dt, these police needs to be trained how to address unarmed civilians even when we r wrong, they shd tell us in such a manner dt we understand not @ gun point. My God save us in this country. Rip Oyoma. Kenny Sulaiman

  9. Please nobody should be saying that the NPF swore to protect us!! Is this how people are protected? If the statistics of the cause of death in this country is drawn, you will find out that 90 percent are from these trigger-happy baggas! And next thing Frank Mba will come out and see the 'needless' cos its no longer needful. I think this jungle justice done on suspected victims should be meted out to these bloated bellies called policemen in this country!!they are the ones that deserve it.

Army are trained better. An army guy will beat you up but the police becuz they are not trained, will use his gun.
Its a sad situation and the driver should be blamed as well cuz he shouldn't have made the scenario look suspicious.
May his soul rest in peace.

  18. There’s really an urgent need to overhaul the whole rank and file of the Nigeria Police Force. At a time like this when all the chips are down and the attention of the global community is on the Nigeria nation over the 240+ missing school girls abducted by the dare devil insurgents, just yesterday evening, Saturday, May 10th, 2014, a police Sergeant attached to the Festac command  wasted the life of a promising youngman, Oyoma Edewor-33, a Building Finishing Contractor over “Egunje”. And this is the third time this kind of case will be reported in same Festac Police Command.

According to eye witness account, the trigger happy Police Sergeant, Sgt. Otene who was so drunk at the time of the incident shot at the young man at close range when he refused to “settle” him for using a towing van to get his car off the road.

Tracing the genesis of the event that led to the unfortunate incident, National Enquirer gathered reliably that the Building Engineer’s car had had a slight accident somewhere around Lekki, Lagos and instead of leaving it on the road, to obstruct traffic, he decided to get a towing van to take it home in Festac.

Informed sources confided in this office that, as soon as the Police team at the second junction, Festac sighted the towing van which had already passed them by, they hijacked the nearest commercial bus and ran after the van. The towing van, we gathered was intercepted at the third junction and as soon as it was stopped, Sergeant Otene and his colleague (just 2 of them performed the illegal operation) took charge dragging the promising young man,Oyoma Edewor out of his towed Jeep and ordered him to seat on the ground.

The Policemen were however said to have threatened him to settle them and he was just about to explain the situation when Sergeant Otene pulled the trigger and shot him at close range. Though, he’s been arrested, reports reaching us have it that, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Festac Command is trying to act funny by changing the face of the story in order to absolve his men. We’re on the story and we shall do everything possible to make sure justice prevail in this case. Please let’s all rise.

  21. Last night about 9:15pm those police men on bike stopped me on Ozumba and said I beat traffic light. The light went from green to yellow when I was already pass the stop line oo. I asked if he had any picture, he said I should open by car for one of them to enter and take me to their computer room in Alausa. I asked enter which car, the one you bought for me?

The way the guy was shouting and giving me commands ehn I could tell he was drunk!

So I turned on my inner lights and he was shouting put off the light, I said lailai I want everyone to see what's happening. Then I picked my phone and said I want to make a call, let's go to the nearest police station here.

Guess what he said......, he said that's not The real Nigerian Police station....hahahah! (Abeg there is fake police station again?) When I started forming calling someone they got on their bike and fled.

I can bet if it's was not on a busy road/Island, they would have beaten me blue/black!!

So one can not explain their selves again because they men are holding guns? He had a right to explain to the police man please.. Don't make these people feel good with what they are doing
if we keep quiet all the time cos they are holding funs and wearing uniform then where is the freedom of speech... Please he should be punished, this case shouldn't be swept under the carpet,it wouldn't bring him back to life but other police men would know the depth of what they are getting themselves into.
if it means protesting, they people who are friends and neighbors should protest in festac, until the IG gets holds of these.infos.
      .

    1. True talk. Festac police division is very corrupt. There's one constable or corporal MATTHEW OGUNNIYI who claims to be attached to the LASTMA division at mile 2-festac axis. He and his fellow officers on that axis are thieves, rogues and robbers. They extort money from commercial vehicles and private car owners in that axis claiming they committed one traffic offence or the other. Please NPF monitor d activities of constable/corporal MATTHEW OGUNNIYI. He is a rogue in police uniform and one of those giving the force a bad name.

MY TAKE; THE TREND WILL NOT STOP. YOU COULD BE THE NEXT VICTIM. DONT SAY ''IT WILL NOT BE YOUR PORTION'' COS IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU IMMUNE. FIGHT NOW TO SAVE YOUR LIFE TOMORROW. RIP EDEWOR.
