Attention Benue State Government - Primary School Teachers Have Not Been Paid .

The whole strike started when the government of Benue State refused to pay Primary School Teachers their salary from Aug till October 2013  (put in mind, that the primary school teachers are the only ones in the state that are not being paid with minimum wage).

When schools resumed in September 2013,the teachers complained to the State Union for teachers, and the Union decided to look into the matter, they tried appealing with the State govt but to no avail. It was at this point that the National Union decided to step in.

When the Union took over the case, they decided to go on strike and told the govt that they will only call-off the strike when the state govt start paying teachers their salary and this time it must be minimum wage. The state govt then released 2months (August & Sept) salary and paid the teachers on the 21st of October 2013.The govt still refused to pay the minimum wage,so the National Union order the teachers embarked on strike on the 24th of October,2014.

The primary school teachers stayed at home without being paid  until the 24th of December,2013.when the state govt paid them their October salary.Ever since then the govt has not paid a dime to the primary school teachers till date. You can do the maths,in order words they have not been paid their salary from November 2013 till May 2014.The students are still at home on strike and it doesn't look like the govt is making any effort to help end the strike.

  3. Dats so true, i live in makurdi. And its very painful when u see little children sitting @ home and constituting nuisance. Bcos the children affected are from poor backgrounds. Our governor is a nonchalant man. Education shld βξ a right nd not a privilege. He should pay the teachers and let school resume properly. ~Anita~

  7. VERY TRUE STELLA, I'VE NEVER SEEN SOMEONE AS HEARTLESS AS THE BENUE STATE GOVERNOR. HE'S NOT EVEN BOTHERED AT ALL. ALWAYS HANGING AROUND THE VILLA IN ABUJA AS IF HE'S THE PRESIDENTS' P.A. BENUE STATE IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHEN THE WICKED RULES...AND PAINFULLY, SOME OF THESE TEACHERS ARE WIDOWS/BREADWINNERS WHO DO NOT HAVE ANY SUPPORT.
