ASUU THREATENS TO STRIKE OVER ABDUCTED DELSU LECTURER, OJARUEGA
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka Branch has joined the “Bring Back Our Ojaruega” campaign by threatening to proceed on indefinite strike without further notice, if something is not done fast by the Delta State
Government and Security Agents to free her kidnapped member, Mrs Enajite Ojaruega.
Mrs Ojaruega, who is a lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies, DELSU, Abraka, was ambushed and violently kidnapped since Monday 19th May, 2014 at gun point by unknown gunmen near Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area on her way to work at about 8.30am. Up to the time of filing in this report, Mrs Ojaruega, a humble, hardworking, dedicated house wife and mother has been kept incommunicado. No contact has been established and her location remains unknown.
In a press conference held on Thursday 22nd May, 2014 at the Senior Staff Club, DELSU, Abraka on the frequent kidnapping of members, the union rejected and condemned the incessant harassment and kidnapping of members. According to ASUU-DELSU “there is a standing action principle of ASUU National regarding the kidnap of her members. Further delay in the release of Mrs Ojaruega would compel the Branch to activate this principle which will not be in the interest of the society”.
ASUU-DELSU therefore called on the Delta State Government and the Security Agents to provide a conducive atmosphere devoid of insecurity in Abraka and environ to enable DELSU workers and students function excellently and fearlessly.
Executives and members of ASUU-DELSU present at the press conference includes Professor Abel Diakparomre, Chairman; Dr Emma Ufuophu-Biri, Secretary; Dr Tarhuno, Treasurer; Prof (Mrs) Edith Odeka, HOD, History and International Studies, Dr Marcauley Mowarin, HOD, English and Literary Studies; Dr Adaikpo, HOD, Geology, Mr Lucky Ejobee and Mr Moses Darah of Languages and Linguistics Department among others.

DeletePray 4her safe return. No safe place in dis country aqain! Every part is peculiar with its own trouble. Mtcheew
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say this oh, but will going on strike bring back the woman? The school should be on the security agencies to intensify efforts to help locate the woman. The students should not be made to suffer for her abduction nah. Its bad enough these students are already lagging behind in their academics. Let the people in charge please do their work, while the students continue with their studies. Our security personnel in this country is about the worst you can see anywhere. Instead ASUU should stage a protest to the DPO or whoever in charge. I pray they find her in good time.
ReplyDeleteGoing on strike will not bring her back, prayer and ransom will...

My lecturer o......Great ELS. #shuga#.
ReplyDeleteI feel for the family of this woman and pray that she is released unhurt by her abductors. I also urge the authorities to please intensify their search.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I think these lecturers are lazy people always looking for an excuse not to work. How is the strike going to help locate the woman. They better stop wasting the students' time. Rose
They should go on strike ASAP!!! Those bastards will be molesting that woman now.
