t was in the year 1963 and Nigeria's first and only Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa took his annual leave and was off to his village to spend it. Then a British photojournalist came along but they told him the that the PM had gone on vacation.
The photojournalist then asked to which country but he was shocked when they told him the PM went to spend the vacation in his own village. To satisfy his curiosity, he decided to travel
to the village. But on getting to the village, there was no sign that a big man was in town. Everyone went on their normal business and the village was peacefully quiet.
Then he met a farmer along the way with his donkey carrying bales of sugarcane, and he asked from the farmer the house of the PM. The photojournalist was again left speechless when the
farmer told him that he had just left the PM and that if he gets to the PM's house, which he described, he would meet him sitting on the bare floor with his kids enjoying the sugarcane
that he gave them.
The British photojournalist was dazed when he reached the PM's home. This is the picture that he took. May the labours of our heroes past never be in vain.
Today, we have vagabonds and thieves in power. Those who disturb an entire city with sirens and their empty noises of vanity. Those who loot the treasury of an entire nation and still insult our common intelligence with their embarrassing incompetence. Nigeria has all it takes to become the greatest nation on earth.
All we need are visionary, dedicated and inspiring leaders and not the shameless rogues and incorrigibly kleptomaniac bandits who lie, rob, cheat, rig and kill their way to power.
WHEN IT IS TIME TO VOTE, REMEMBER YOUR UNBORN CHILDREN AND USE YOUR HEAD. HAVE A NICE DAY.
"WHEN IT IS TIME TO VOTE, REMEMBER YOUR UNBORN CHILDREN AND USE YOUR HEAD. HAVE A NICE DAY." I love that SDK. That's what I'll tell anyone.
ReplyDelete2015, be wise. Or else...
the times they have already a-changin. no more leaders just barawos
DeleteInfact Stella haff vex on the matter!
DeleteIt's so disheartening these days dat d govt office is just a money making venture,if only they even do something' for their communities as they loot, but nothing!infact the poorer the pple the better for them.
Interesting and insightful read. If only our present leaders can take a cue from such humility and live a simplistic life. I said if...just if..But rather, we have leaders who build and buy houses worldwide. When the truth is that u can only sleep in ONE room and in ONE house at a time. Most of their kids are married, so the big houses are left empty, in most cases it's the maids and housekeepers that are left in them alone. We all read Mandela's will and what he was worth in his lifetime...yet, he was and still is the greatest man that lived.
DeleteWhen I see a list of those same recycled vagabonds on the list, do I just vote for the least of them in terms of "thiefry"? How do I exercise my right?
DeleteWow stories dat touch! We indeed Hv vaqabondz as leaders!
ReplyDeleteJonathan and mama peace attack dog, you switch today?
DeleteWhere your fellow political dog attacker, Iphie Dearie?
Wind guage mentality
Humility is priceless...If Jonathan deceived many wiv his "I hv no shoes syndrome", den wht more?? We don't even knw who d 'competent' leaders are anymore. One way or the other, they get involved wiv d dirty games of politics. Come 2015, I pray for Godfearing leaders. It's nt by goin to Egypt tour or visiting different churches G.O. Oo; if u fear God u wil lead ryt wiv His wisdom. One wiv God is majority. #shikena
DeleteNot vagabond and thieves, but clueless and incompetent leaders attributing problem to the acts of God. The best set of leaders were from Tafawa Balewa. Those are ways and action they imbibe and learn from. If you the cap of Awo, does it make you think and support his idea.
ReplyDeleteMay he rest in peace.

Is there ever an election in Nigeria? Election polls are ceremonial, those who become leaders in Nigeria are selected by their God fathers not by election. #IMHO
ReplyDeletePola, we need to change this mindset to make the change we desire. We cannot be negative and always express negativity and expect positive outcomes. If most Nigerians believe in their country and desire to kick out scoundrels, we can. But because we want God to do it ( and we all know He wont) and the politicians know He wont, they take advantage of our collective abdication of our civic duties. Changing Nigeria begins with us and not the leaders. You cannot have a corrupt leader if we despise corruption. Ask Nixon
DeleteI am with you Dr... we are the change we seek. The future is here. We are the chosen generation to prepare a better life for the ones with, after and will come. Happy Easter my lovely SDK family. You all rock and I must say your comments cracks my ribs daily. Kisses!!!
DeleteI don't vote.....I don't know if I'll be able to stand under the sun and vote......but this time around, I'll really really try.....I don't even know who to vote for and a little voice in me tells me my vote doesn't count.....
ReplyDeleteI'll keep praying 4 my country....
Stella the question is do we even have honest candidates who truly want to turn things around in this country? and if we do will the powers that be allow it?
ReplyDeleteOnly if Nigerian leaders will be like him. Later they will want us to mourn them like Nelson Mandela if they die. Kai
ReplyDelete*deep sigh*
ReplyDeleteNigeria will be great again,Amen.
Do we really need to vote? Does it even count?
ReplyDeleteOla
True Talk Let's vote wisely n May God see us through IJN Amen. Ada 0werre
ReplyDeletenice one stella.i love you for this post
ReplyDeleteThe same old politicians all of them they there now.from fela song, amry arragement
ReplyDeleteStella I must say I really love your bluntness, but my question is,how do we know who is credible nd honest? Because the seat of power destroys their thinking
ReplyDeleteBy their fruits we shall know them!!! The ones who have been tested and trusted....
DeleteWrds on marble#sighs, may God save Nigeria. EVE E UME
ReplyDeleteEve darling, I have news for you. God aint going to save Nigeria. He put over 160 million people there to do that and we still want Him to come do it. How lazy can a people get.
DeleteYou said it all doc
DeleteAda ,Dr said it all. In addition....faith nor without works is dead. No one will change our Nation except us! #the time is now
DeleteSDK,I hail oooooo
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to u n all d blog visitors
Those were d good old days when our leaders had vision n they were prepared to die or live for d good of the society.
Our present leaders should all seat down and reflect about our dear country.
"Let d labour of our leaders never be in vain"
Nigeria,a land blessed beyond measure, being suppressed by the callous n visionless bodies that are drained of their souls which are termed leaders.
R we still d "Giant of Africa",OR just an irony?
We all should pray for our dear country Nigeria,as God Almighty resurrected today, may our beloved Motherland,NIGERIA resurrect today in JESUS NAME,AMEN.
Stella, are we truly ready for a good leader as Nigerians?...a lot of Nigerians are indisciplined! We break laws at will even when we know its very wrong (who can catch me attitude)but always abide by the same rules immediately we are outside the country! You expect a candidate to give u a bowl of rice and chicken without stealing to recoup all the money he spent wen he gets into the office?...the day we start telling each other the truth and actually want it is the day we'll have good leaders because these same people we think will be our messiah also come from the same society....same environment we all came from and if our orientation does not change, how much more our leaders?! Let's come together from grassroot to the Apex to fight corruption an be patriotic!...be morally incorrupt...that's when we can without fear or favour chose a good president and other political office holders who would not only be accountable but also be available to answer for their work! Happy Easter! $exyD
ReplyDelete*SIGH*

ReplyDeleteThe corrupt system has its origin from our founding fathers. We need a total change from what exist today.its annoying when they compare themselves to Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King. SMH....
