Harrysong Said His Parents Are Siblings But Retracts Statement And Magazine Replies Him.

April 2012 interview with Harrysong.

The interview is not new but it went viral because it was reloaded on the internet and other blogs picked it up without putting the exact date...i dont know how this spread but i feel so bad for Harrysong having to go through this right now even if it is true....

Read how this drama began

Harrison Tari Okri, aka Harrysong, is one of the hottest acts right now. This energetic writer, singer and producer shared a major secret with YES INTERNATIONAL!’s GBENGA SHABA about his parents. He also spoke on other issues…

Let us meet you.
My name is Harrison Tari Okri. I’m from Delta State, an Ijaw man from Warri, but grew up in Port-Harcourt. My stage name is Harrysong. I am the first and the only child of my parents.

You mean you are an only child?
No. It’s just that after my dad and my mum gave birth to me, they separated and went their different ways. So, my father got married to another woman and also my mother to another man. They separated because I was given birth to by two relations. My father and mother are actually brother and sister. They gave birth to me before they could realize that.

How did that happen?
I don’t know.

Did you ask them?
I don’t know.

Did you ever ask them how they met and fell in love?
Well, I learnt that when my mother was alive, she met my father. Then she was still in school and they were in the same class and the same village. But she didn’t know that they are closely related. So, I was born based on what our villagers regarded as abomination and therefore they had to separate.

Are you saying that the discovery actually led to your parents’ separation?
Yes, of course! Because it was a big abomination, so they had to separate. Even, they attempted to kill my father in that village, but he fled, because in Warri where I come from, it is a taboo. They termed it incest.

So, how were you able to get into music?
My mum was a singer. In fact, a choir mistress in a white garment church. I used to attend choir practice with her and also sing in church. The passion to sing was also in me and that motivated me to follow her whenever she was going on any ministration when I was young. Before she died, she went to the studio and I wrote her first song when I was about eleven years old. So, anytime I think about how I started music, I always give the kudos to my mum. I started as a gospel artiste from Late Pa Benson Idahosa’s church with the name Harrysong, but then I wasn’t satisfied being limited to the four walls of the church. That was why I came to Lagos some years ago and I started hustling from street to street, from studio to studio, where I met people like Aki and Pawpaw. I worked with Omotola Jalade, Paul Play, Dr. Fresh, KC Presh, before I could produce that track, I’m in Love which actually brought me to where I am today....half interview culled

Harrysong's denial tweet.

YESInternational Replies Harrysong's Denial....
''Our attention has been drawn to a very disparaging comment from Harrysong, an up and coming artiste over an interview we conducted with him at Kcee’s Omole Phase 2, Ikeja, Lagos home.

As a responsible medium, YES INTERNATIONAL! had wanted to ignore him and his deliberate act of mischief. But on a second thought, we decided otherwise, because in our considered opinion, it will be suicidal to disregard the young man’s insinuations and cheap blackmail. However, we are also not unaware of Harrysong’s ignorance and this again is a restraining factor on our side.

So, we wish to inform Harrysong and people like him that a print medium or any organization for that matter that deals in news has a right to stagger any interview. What is giving him sleepless nights is the content of the interview which very few people will be proud of. But he did not speak under duress. So, we are wondering what prompted this sudden outburst and antagonism. More so, when he applauded the interview at the time it was first used on the cover of our magazine.

For the records, it is important to state that this controversial interview resurfaced because our website crashed and in rebuilding it, we are uploading our lost materials. In addition, we wish to inform Harrysong that the original tape is still intact and if he wishes to listen to his voice one more time, he is free to drop by at our Budland, Ikeja, Lagos office. Likewise any other person.

- YES INTERNATIONAL! MAGAZINE MANAGEMENT''

  3. He said this cos I read it one time and i was shaking my head, then he was a nobody,he wasn't big then he was probably seeking publicity so he said that, now that he is doing well, the story surfaced and it was re carried, i.remember when Harry song was hustling to come up and was never recognised even in shows then,i used to feel for him, nobody claps after he sings,i made sure I clapped cos its not easy,am.happy for him, even when.i read this recently I said this is old now, that i had seen this story, this is what happens when u don't have a PR person, then he was coming up and he blabbed without knowing the consequences,it happens to actors and actresses too, this is not a nice thing to say at all,it should be a secret, something never to say out to the world

  25. Its a taboo but its not his fault so why the shame. He should move on. Fellow sdker's let me share my testimony here.. Around this time last year my Sis & I were single, She was heartbroken & approaching 30 while I was in a new relationship yet sceptical. My mum encouraged us to pray/prayed with us that the right partner should locate us. By June, my guy just started talking marriage & that we should settle down fast even though he was just managing a room, had no car & things seems tight even as we were both working! By November my sister met a guy- a colleague of my cousin in an oil firm and on 25th december( 1 month after) he proposed, took her to his parent who welcomed her. We all picked same date & marriage prep started. Things began to work out well for my guy @ his job place, he bought a car, moved into an apartment & we got married this month of April, same day with my Sister! My Sister and I are so grateful to God for these wonderful men he brought into our lives, they love, care & respect us.. I have always felt all men were the same & there are no good men out there cos of people's experience(friend's, family) but God proved me wrong. Am using my Sister & I as a point of contact to every Single lady waiting on God for a life partner, that God will answer you with a Genuine, responsible & loving man this year, Amen. TJ. Thanks Stella
