A snake has won a lengthy battle with a crocodile in northern Queensland, wrestling it, constricting it and then finally eating it.
The incident at Lake Moondarra, near Mount Isa, was captured on camera by local residents on Sunday.
The 10-ft snake, thought to be a python, coiled itself around the crocodile and the two struggled in the water.
The snake later brought the dead crocodile onto land and ate it.

Pythons kill their prey by tightening their coils around the animal as it breathes out.
This can cause the animal to suffocate or suffer heart failure, allowing the python to swallow its prey whole. Many snakes have flexible jaws that enable them to swallow prey many times their own body size.
A 2012 study published in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters suggested that snakes could sense their victim's heartbeat, and let go when it stopped, preventing it from using more energy than required.

I can't stand snakes, they are the worst set of reptiles I've ever seen! I so hate them, more especially the way they glide, I wonder how some people eat snakes.

FYI snakes were nt created this way, they had hands & legs until eve was deceived by it & God cursed it, d hands & legs went back into its tommy, dat curse is also d reason humans 're not friendly with it. I don't like them though.

ReplyDeleteHow in heaven's name was that even possible? The croc is bigger, appears stronger and harder to grasp cos of its huge ugly scaly skin. Na wa o. Snakes are too demonic. I also wish they could be wiped off the face of the planet like dinosaurs

ReplyDeleteOMG @ Tomiwealth I hate those snake lizards the most. Gosh. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. Eeewwww. When I served in Abeokuta, during dry season they used to enter my room and I would almost die till someone comes and kills it for me. Very scary and disgusting creatures. But I actually think wall geckos are cute. LOL.

DeleteI have a sister who hates snakes so much that she forbids Titus fish because of its resemblance to snake skin. She calls it snake fish and used to pick it out of food when we were growing up. Of course I used to do her the favor of being the crocodile to swallow it up.
