Police Arraign Pastor For Cutting Off 2-year-old’s Fingers

LORD HAVE MERCY!....WHAT IS THIS?

The Sabo Police Station on Tuesday arraigned a 49-year-old pastor, Moyo Martins, before a Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly cutting off the fingers of a two-year-old child, Saidat Faleye.
The incident happened on Olumo Street, Iwaya Onike, Yaba, Lagos State.
It was learnt that the mother of the victim, Mrs. Bola Faleye, had left her in the care of Martins on Thursday, when she wanted to take her bath.

After she was gone, the child and the suspect were said to have been together in his room.
About five minutes later, the child suddenly let out a loud shriek of pain which drew the attention of neighbours.
They reportedly alerted her mother who equally rushed to the scene in panic. She found her child’s ring and little fingers chopped off.

It was alleged that Martins sawed off the fingers in his room.

The kid was said to have been rushed to a hospital within the area for treatment.
The suspect initially denied knowing anything about the incident. However, upon his arrest, he allegedly confessed that he did it in error and pleaded to be forgiven.

He was arraigned on one count,  which reads, “That you, Moyo Martins, on March 6, 2014, about 1.10pm, at 5, Olumo Street, Iwaya Onike, Yaba, Lagos in the Yaba Magisterial District, did use sharp saw to cut off the left finger of one Saidat Faleye, aged 2 years.”
The police prosecutor, Mr. F. Ifijeh, said the offence was punishable under Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial at the magistrate’s court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Aje-Afunwa, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till April 24, 2014.culled from punch

    1. Yes dear Stella. Under the law he can plead not guilty even though he admits that he committed the crime...although not intentionally. Not guilty in this context comes with further explanation that he didn't cut her on purpose. So the prosecuting counsel will have to prove it was intentional, while the defense counsel will have to prove beyond doubts that it was in fact an honest mistake. So technically he is entitled to bai,l as I assume he's a first time offender. Emotions and sentiments are not welcomed nor backed by law unfortunately. Left for me I'll also rather he's locked up in cell until further notice. But eh...the law has to take its course. Poor cute baby

  3. OMG! But what does he mean he did it in error? Was he playing, experimenting with the razor or just trying to tease the girl? This doesn't make sense, he needs to be punished severely for this. Moreso, I blame the mum, how could she leave her daughter on care of a male neighbour? This is how a lot of children r molested, mtchw.

  21. Wickedness of the highest order!!! What kind of error is that? A cut from a sharp razor is enough to make an adult mad let alone sawing off a child's fingers...God help us.

  22. Sometimes I don't even understand how d judicial syystem works. How can a man chop off a lil qurls finqers livinq her finqerless 4 life n u qrant him bail of 100k? Ok wen he chops off someone's head dey will probably lock him 4life. N his flimsy xcuse is error? May amadioha strike his useless mouth there.

  25. He can be granted bail.. but the good thing about our law is that the judge always know when an accused cannot make bail. He can't afford the bail for one and nobody will stand as Surety for him. He's in remand

This kind of story breaks my heart. I pity the poor girl.

The more reason for me not to trust any1 with my child.
I blame the girl's mother for leaving her child ( a girl child for that matter) in the care of a MAN (Jesus!). He could have sexually molested her!
Some mothers get liver o. I can't even leave my daughter alone for 1 second with my brothers inlaw living with us talk more of a total stranger... God forbid.
I pray the innocent girl gets justice soon.
    SMH

  32. OMG, what is this world turning into. I think there is more to this story because I don't believe he did it in error. What is he going to do with the finger? This evil man is suppose to be in police custody. I cry for my country. The police officers that granted him bail, how will they feel if someone did that to their own child? mtcheeew. Heartless people.

The heart of man is truly wicked
    Haba!
Mothers should try as much as possible not to trust their wards with relatives talk more of strange neighbours.
Heard a story on radio yesterday where a woman birthed twins, lost one at birth and the other one about 6months was left in care of her friend or so cos she was going out.
Getting back the child had been fed with something strange and he died. The story was brought on air to seek people's opinion on what the woman should do REVENGE or FORGIVE

  37. The heart of man is desperately wicked. Poor innocent girl, but am sure God will not allow him to go unpunished even if he escapes man's judgement

  40. What is Nigeria turning into? these days we are even scared of our own shadows sef. A lot of evil and sick men roaming around the streets, living around our houses, attending our churches, preaching on pulpits, working in our offices,s,hopping in our markets and even living inside our homes. We just beg that they stay away from our children who are defenseless

This is awful! My heart breaks for this baby. I can imagine the pain she went through at the hand of the so called 'pastor'. Poor girl

Either the guy is a ritualist or mentally deranged. I hope the mother picked up her baby's finger o, before the guy will use it for jazz

    ReplyDelete
  41. Child abuse is one of the worst sins ever. That woman shouldn't have left her child with just anybody let alone this evil ritualist who calls himself a pastor. As a mother, you are responsible for your children, if you want to leave them, ensure they are in the hands of a registered nursery, childminder or reliable/trustworthy family members like your own parents or siblings. Cruel things are happening day by day to innocent little children and as a mother myself, it petrifies me to even leave my children anywhere other than their schools and nursery. That little child needs to be examined further by a doctor and that man must be dealt with seriously... They could start by cutting both his hands "accidentally"!
