NNPC Denies Chartering Of Jet For Exclusive Use Of Petroleum Minister

The Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has denied reports that it chartered aircraft for the personal use of the Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The Corporation in a statement by its Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, said it has not chartered any aircraft for the exclusive use of the Minister of Petroleum Resources or any particular official of the Corporation.
It also noted that contrary to the information being peddled in some quarters; Mrs. Alison-Madueke has not chartered any aircraft for her personal use or the use of her family.

NNPC however noted that in consonance with the legal instrument which establishes the Corporation as a commercial entity to engage in the oil and gas sector, the NNPC in course of discharging its statutory and commercial functions engages third parties for the provision of services outside of its core business.

The Corporation noted that this practice is common and acceptable in the local and international business environment in which it operates.

According to Dr. Ibrahim, more specifically, we would like to state as follows, that “there is nothing prohibiting NNPC from owning or chartering an aircraft. On the contrary, by the enabling legislation, NNPC is empowered to “hold, manage and alienate moveable and immovable property and enter into contracts or partnerships with any company, form or persons which in the opinion of the Corporation will facilitate the discharge of the said duties under this Act’’, Please refer to Section 6 of the NNPC Act, Cap. N123, LFN 2004.

“Operations in the oil and gas sector are time sensitive and often require prompt attention, which cannot be achieved using regular scheduled flights. It is standard practice for large oil and gas Corporation such as NNPC to make use of the most efficient means of transportation to ensure the effective and efficient coverage of the vast scope of critical oil and gas assets under their purview.

“NNPC has always availed itself of the use of owned or chartered aircraft for the purpose of its business, which includes the transportation of its top functionaries.
” In this regard, it is pertinent to note that the international oil Companies operating in joint ventures with NNPC, regularly charter aircraft as dictated by the exigencies of their business. Indeed some have moved from owning their own aircraft to suing the charter opinion. Other national oil companies, such as Sonangol of Angola, have also chosen the charter option.

“The advantages of the charter option include zero capital and maintenance costs resulting in a lower financial outlay and thus an improved cash flow.”culled

  4. I sincerely dont understand why our women in power who should use their strength as builders end up doing exactly wot those annoying men do. Come to think of it nah...d House of Reps abi na Speaker woman Pat Eteh, Stella Oduah n now Allison and we expect more women in power when our women have failed to make an impact like Deborah,Esther,Mary,Dorcas even Mag Thatcher, etc

  5. patricia etteh did not misappropriate funds. the allegation was that she inflated the figures for refurbishing her official residence. in other words she 'wanted' to chop money, not that she actually 'chopped'.

the big masquerades who didn't want her as speaker whipped up public sentiment, which is very easy to do in Nigeria because because many Nigerians love scandalous news and sometimes don't bother to dig deep when these sensational headlines hit the airwaves and internet.

after she was removed the man that took over from her (Bankole) not only blew up the House budget estimates, he illegally approved a huge increase in the salaries/allowances of the house of reps members and still 'chopped' left right and centre. today a court has cleared him of all wrong doing.

strangely no body talks about this anymore. up Naija!

  9. Stella I am really disappointed in you, I now believe the saying that says "women are their own enemies" isn't it obvious these women are being witch hunted for being a part of GEJ's government? Women who have gotten to the apex of their career through hard work should be emulated by younger women but rather we help these dirty politicians spread propaganda. You all celebrated the sack of Stella Oduah for 200m but it's ok for SLS to misappropriate 168billion, Fashola bought his bullet proof Jeeps for 300m each and it's okay. A woman that has revamped the look of our airports, she built the first international airport in eastern Nigeria, should be celebrated not humiliated. Every month these politicians look for story to discredit this government and it's beginning to get annoying. They are calling for the sack of Allisson Madueke but ignoring the GMD Nnpc because he is from the north. When are going to call white white in this country. A Lot of women here who only thrive in gossip and are nobodies in their respected fields will criticise this post. They only find joy in the downfall of their fellow women. That is why we will continue to be second to men in this country thus your stupid quote. (if u like post, atleast you read it)...xoxoxo
