Louisiana's Longest-Serving Death Row Prisoner Walks Free After 30 Years.....He Is Innocent!

Mr Ford,Louisiana's longest-serving death row prisoner, walked free Tuesday after spending nearly 30 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit.

"My mind's going all kinds of directions, but it feels good," Ford, 64, told reporters outside the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, according to CNN affiliate WAFB.

Asked whether he harbors any resentment.
"Yeah, because I was locked up almost 30 years for something I didn't do," said Ford, who wore a denim shirt, a hat and dark-rimmed glasses.

"Thirty years of my life, if not all of it.I can't go back.My sons when I left was babies. Now they grown men with babies''

According to the Capital Post Conviction Project of Louisiana, a judge ordered that Ford be freed Monday after prosecutors petitioned the court to release him.

New information corroborated what Ford had said all along: that he was not present at nor involved in the November 5, 1983, slaying of Isadore Rozeman, the project said.

Ford had been on death row since 1984, making him one of the longest-serving death row prisoners in the United States.

*oluwajesu!...30years? and GOD kept him!...oh LORD great is thy faithfulness!

  7. I hate hearing prison stories, it makes me depressed. I really hope they compensate him, this man really had the strong will to live o, 30yrs knowing yo might die anyday and yet he survived, not to mention that at his age he's susceptible to many ailments, thank God he didn't die in prison.

  8. Thank God he was not killed before they found out he was innocent.

  9. Read this story on the net, This guy has hit a jackpot. Every single hour he spent in jail will be paid for. Not like Naija system where people suffer for nothing.

  10. God can keep you in a place for year to do nothing, preparing you for your millions while you cry every day questioning him what you have done.

  11. Even if he sues the whole world and they pay for every second he spent in prison, they can never give him back what he lost. He lost the chance to be with his family and grow with them, the chance to father his children and mentor his boys. What of his pride that was stolen away from him? His tears in prison, the ridicule that his kids must have faced in school and the society, the injustice that must have been meted out to him in prison by prison guards and even prison mates. A lot of people are suffering for crimes they are innocent of, some have even died in the process. I am glad for him that he made it out alive and in one piece

  12. ...and that is why I will always campaign against the death penalty.

Its bad enough that 30 years of his life was taken away from him. No matter how much money he gets compensated with, he has lost a great deal that money can never buy in those 30 years.

Imagine that he spent those years on Death Row - imagine the psychological effect on being on Death Row for 30 whole years!

Now, if he had been killed nko? What compensation can you even give an innocent person wrongly killed?

Google Innocence Project to find out more about some many people wrongly convicted. Some were actually killed before they were discovered to be innocent.

Just imagine that it could be you (yeah, I know you'll say God forbid!).

    1. Yes death row should be abolished and btw I expect anyone put on death row to have been charged to court and proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt!....its really not cool!30yrs!the man would have died in his mind over again out of fear of d unknown!

  15. this abuja cake woman money cant restore honour and all he must have missed in those 30 years he was on death row. That money may be meaningless to him. Time that he can never get back again. So called worldly justice systems is what needs to re-examined so that such does not happen. These kind of things happen everyday and everywhere. So are not so lucky to stay alive to witness their exonoration

  16. Awww Thank God he made it alive

  17. Similar to the other two men who were released in New York last month.

An all white jury convicted Glenn Ford. Says it all really. Very sad.

He will get rich - A Louisiana law entitles those who have served time but are later exonerated to receive compensation. It calls for payments of $25,000 per year of wrongful incarceration up to a maximum of $250,000, plus up to $80,000 for loss of 'life opportunities.'

  18. To add insult to injury the state is going to pay him only $320,000 (Three hundred and Twenty thousand Dollars).

  19. Louisiana is the world's prison capital. Get caught with ordinary weed, at least 6 months. Another arrest, you are inside for years.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes he will receive some cash compensation. But I doubt any amount of money can make up for Wat he must Hv gone thru in prison. Being on death row he must Hv been in solitary confinement which will mean being locked up for 23 hrs and allowed 1hr exercise a daily. For 30 years? How much dem wan give am???
