Deep Reflections..''It Is The Soul That Needs Surgery.....''

''It's 7:45pm Friday evening and I'm stuck in traffic,i turn to my radio for solace and after a few infomercials the song 'Pretty Hurts' by Beyonce comes on. I do not particularly like Beyonce but I listened to the lyrics anyway because truly there was nothing else to do,the traffic was terrible. The first lines hit me and I completely zoned out...
"Mama said,you're a pretty girl
What's in your head,doesn't matter
Brush your hair,fix your teeth
What you wear, that's all that matters"

Sad but true, that's the society we find ourselves in,where perishable beauty and acquisition is celebrated.

Where the pressure to be accepted and perceived as perfect is insatiable forgetting that perfection is nothing but a mirage..a little botox here,a little lift there,a little tuck,a little butt firming,a little lightening,a little blasting,a little defining,a little retouching...and as time rolls by,that person you were initially is lost because admit it or not every of those little changes brings in a new dimension to you.

I met with a Nigerian actress recently and we talked deep. She said to me "All the pictures on instagram 'its for show, you know we have fans make we no fall hand".

Amongst these fans are young gullible girls who actually believe that is all there is in life.;Nice hair, nice accent, nice clothes, nice party invites, nice friends and at the top of it all a nice man. C'mon ladies, theres more to being alive.

Don't get me wrong,EVERY woman must look after herself,*if you dont, who will?* In this century there is no room for the woman who cannot clean up,be you Housewife,Corporate exec,Student,Entrepreneur et al..the apogee of the matter is to not lose yourself while at it .

Be fabulous in and out,get an education,it doesn't necessarily have to be a varsity classroom (you have no idea how many doors your gift can open for you, provbs 18:16 backs it up).

Read enlightening books, attend seminars, conferences, conventions, stand firmly on your beliefs, live life freely, make mistakes and learn from them, feed your soul, let your aspirations be long term (getting married and owning a business isn't enough) leave a mark on the sands of time even if only a handful of persons know about it.

make an impact. Be beautiful and even more so when you open your mouth to speak, let men drool over how competent you are not how well your backside 'twerks'.

Let this generation of women be one of Beautiful, intellectual,All rounded women.

Above all, surround yourself with people who would add value to you and not diminish it. I know a lot of young women who deliberately go dumb in order to fit into a certain circle,i was one of such..you might enjoy the tide, the attention and recognition you get from being around them,oh the invites to exotic places, the unending luxuries of being part of that clique but hey soul sister,if they do not share same ideals as yours, its time to cut off and stand out, don't just stand out BE OUTSTANDING.

The refrain of the song goes on to say.   "It's the Soul that needs surgery"....

Then I hear honking and curses that bring me back to reality..Ah at last, the truck that broke down has been moved and traffic lessened steadily..Leona Lewis 'I just want to be happy' plays on as I head home.. TAKE CARE SOUL SISTERS!

Forget about complicating ur life by being too serious with it.
At the end of it all, no one comes out alive so enjoy every opportunity while it lasts.

Reminds me of this quote by
      Charles Spurgeon:
'A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.'

  5. Wonderful piece!!!! We need this kind of wake up call once in a while. In a world where every girl wants to look the same, it's usually hard to be different, but it surely pays to be. We all need to accept ourselves for who we are. Whoever wrote this, u are amazing. This is really deep. It's time to be OUTSTANDING!!!!

    1. U lie! To urself n others. No one has to do drugs n prostitution to get where they need to be. No one! Dont put out a false message.

U let the pressures of your interactions and society get to u n u fell flat. U r responsible for ur actions so it is ur responsibility to pick yourself up.

You hv no excuse now because you know right from wrong. Better clean yourself up and do something worthwhile with your life.

  15. You are beautiful inside and out, we are all perfectly and wonderfully made.. The dresses, hair, shoes, latest bags will eventually fade one day, but what you have inside of you, stays there forever! Feed yourself with God's words, there is power in it and it will definitely change your life.

  21. To the poster,
I doubt if dia is any black woman who solely depends on her beauty #Smiles.
    Life is tough,
    times are hard,
    And men have become wiser.

Dese days a man wld oly want to fuck a fine woman, and av nothing permanent to do wit a liability, in summary sh can't get a substantial amt of mony frm him.
Wld quickly narate a tale to u, just saturday dis wk, my BF had to go buy flight ticket frm the ticket office, just at d park a man approached him, n statd advertising 'easter bonanza to dubai at affordable rates' e convinced my BF to follo him down to dia office, n left him in d hands of som very pretty gals to finish d work.
My bobo say I need to see d way dis babes were rolling dia waist, hehehe!
E sed e just laffd witin him, n tot to himsef dis ppl done jam rock, dey need to see d babe wey dey ouz #KissesSef

My mum wld say if u are a nigerian, u can't afford to do 1 tin at a time, u av to juggle 50tins 2geda, meaning if u are pretty, its a added adv, u still av to build ursef. Ur phy beauty oly mks it easier.

Even ashawo sef, no dey do ashawo alone, dey do legit biz during d day!

Its been a very relaxing weekend for me, now d hustle continues, so hlp me God

I for one can testify that being pretty has made life easier for me at many instances without having to bend over backwards'!so u see pretty only hurts when u ain't smart
