President Jonathan Seeks Death Penalty For Cyber Crime

President Goodluck Jonathan has proposed a death sentence on persons who hack into the Critical National Information Infrastructure or computer networks resulting in the loss of lives.

The proposal is contained in the Cyber Crime Bill 2013, which is before the House of Representatives.
However, where there is no loss of lives but the offender causes “grievous bodily injury” to another person, the bill recommends a prison term of not less than 15 years.
Using any computer network for terrorism purposes also attracts life sentence.

The bill defines Critical National Information Infrastructure as “certain computer systems, networks and information infrastructure vital to the national security of Nigeria or the economy and social well-being of its citizens.”
The bill frowns on child pornography, as it imposes a 10-year jail term for offenders or a fine of N20million or both.

The bill criminalises the use of force to engage children in sexual activities.
Offenders are liable to being convicted to10 years imprisonment or a fine of N15m......punch

*Death sentence for cyber crime?woow!
what happened to life in prison?
you cannot use a hammer to kill a fly.

  11. The pple milking the ecomomy dry should be the ones to get the death sentence and not those committing cyber crimes. The real enemies are those stealing our billions and running to foreign banks to dump them while the masses are suffering. They are the ones sabotaging our economy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Seconded!

Stella, its like you have not seen/heard of people who committed suicide after their entire assets were wiped off by fraudsters.

I doubt if the owner of the Brazillian bank defrauded of $242mn by Nwude and the Anajembas, wouldn't have killed himself if part of the money wasn't recovered.

  13. Why not propose such severe punishment on heinous crimes like rape (especially of a minor), pedophilier and sodomy.
I guess he is targeting the likes of el rufai that makes statements that can be misconstrued as 'terrorism stmts' (in the nigerian context).

Men should also realize they have daughters and can be affected indirectly.. Its unfair to treat women matters nonchalantly.. So many ppl evil ppl are moving around and defiling our kids.. Its alarming. Mr President we need death penalties and long term imprisonment for these crimes too! Zara

  48. This Guy don dey Mara I swear, Death sentence for all politicians. This man is the bane of Nigeria .

    ReplyDelete
  49. Death sentence for cyber crime?
Who on earth proposed such erroneous bill? I guess they r joking.

In as much as I so much detest cyber-crime I think this proposition is way too hard and unwelcomed cos the root of cyber crime has not been tamed which is unemployment.

If the intent of this bill is to curb corruption then it is laughable because dis bill will only divert the dividends of cyber-crime to the enforcers.

But come to think of it. A politician steals money meant for the pensioners and most of them die without collecting their rightful emolument and there is no death penalty to that effect for the oga at the top who used their pen to cause the homicide.

Laws r only for the poor in the society.

  50. Mbanu, Goodie baba am not with you on this one biko, haba why dont you seek death penalty for corruption first, at least China is doing it . Which is a lesser crime among the two? Increase their jail term for cyber crimes and make corruption death sentence.

  55. Let President Jonathan soft pedal abeg. Why kill a smart brain for breaking into a network instead of engaging such brain to protect same network, my opinion though. He should deal with corruption in high places first and foremost.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jail term for Child pornography but praise and worship to the Senators marrying and having sex with children. What about his mistress Stella Uduah? What about his government looting funds... Gush! I was born in Nigeria but thank God I can't live in Nigeria anymore. TOTAL RUBBISH!
