Omo Bello being congratulated by the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe |
Omo Bello who is up for an award in France reached out to me via email to appreciate the votes coming in from Nigerians home and abroad...as well as to ask you all to keep voting using www.omobello.com
''Dear Stella,
I am a keen follower of your blog and I find the comments as entertaining as the blog and a way of keeping in touch with home. YAY!!!
I appreciate the support from this blog and the followers have overwhelmed all expectations, by taking the time to vote online.
I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, for your efforts which will hopefully bring about the making of a historical landmark, with a Nigerian singer winning the "Victoire de la Musique" Award for the first time in the history of the awards. UP NIGERIA!!!
Please do not relent in supporting your daughter, and tell your friends, family and loved ones to vote also... The more the merrier! LOL!
2014 is a great year, and may we all have cause to celebrate many more successes and awards like this.
God bless Nigeria!!!!
Love,
Omo''

For those of you who don’t know her, 29 year-old Omo is Nigeria’s only classical
soprano singer on the international opera scene who started from her university
days in UNILAG by singing at MUSON during her spare time. She is of Edo and
Igbo parentage. After she graduated with a degree in Cell Biology and Genetics from Unilag she got a scholarship to France and now holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the prestigious Paris Conservatory of Music.
Omo sings in English, French, Italian, Russian and German and has won the 1st
Prize in the Luciano Pavarotti Giovani 2010 competition, and a famous critic called
her “a talent of Gold!”
The shy, soft-spoken girl also won the 1st prize in the 2011 Anselmo Colzani
international singing competition and was awarded with Italy’s prestigious
international Arca d’Oro prize for young artists in 2013.
Omo has all this while never forgotten her motherland. From 2007, Omo has been performing at the OPERABUJA festival in Nigeria. She also gives charity concerts for medical research associations, and even sings in old people’s homes.....Because of this and more France has granted her honorary citizenship.
