Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motors, Carlos Ghosn, disclosed this to President Goodluck Jonathan on the sideline of ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Ghosn, who said the vehicles would be rolled out of the old Volkswagen Assembly plant in Lagos, noted it was possible to produce two to three million cars in Nigeria annually.
According to him, this will lead to creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the country.
He also told President Jonathan that Nissan intended to increase its investment in Nigeria and establish its own production plant in the country.
“We are interested in producing popular cars , totally adapted to the needs of Nigerians,” Ghosn told the President, adding that the company also planned to bring its global suppliers to make vehicle components in the country.
In his remarks, President Jonathan reiterated that the diligent implementation of the country’s new national automotive policy would rapidly develop Nigeria’s automobile industry.culled

DeleteYES! This is the way forward... Good initiative by Mr President and Ghosn. I could remember vividly on the previous post on atiku's question abt what do Nigerian need; I said, we need investors like this. Nigeria cannot be a dumbing site for diff automobiles. We need these guys to come here and establish their production plants thus this will eventually create more jobs for the masses. Good initiative..

ReplyDeleteStella u no see better Nissan car put as caption?? Well this is good news for our economy. Asides job creation it would also crash d astronomical prices we currently pay for imported cars.
ReplyDeletePlease, try to understand the point am trying to put across, am not against the nissan investment idea, I am simply saying that there other pressing needs that needs to be soughted out first! Of course the nissan project is a leeway to job creation for the unemployed, but you have to really weigh out the intention behind this as well. Africa especially Nigeria, south Africa, kenya, and Ghana are the next target by the western world especially now that they have drained Asia to the core! My question remains, what is the motive behind it? I see this as a means to extort our nature endowed resources, a means for Nissan to cut cost in labour, pay lesser tax and a quite easy way to dispose of their toxic substance without being charged. Let's not only focus on job creation, let's try to view it from other perspective too.
ReplyDeleteSo u were the sperm that really won?
DeleteWell thought out...in addition to this... have they checked the Environmental impact assessment?
DeleteWith unstable power supply how will this plan be sustained or isn't that part of the cost effective checklist hmmm..Mr president may God grant you wisdom above all.
Stephanie, your comments don't always make sense. Pple like you complain about everything. You all wanted the man to create jobs, now he is creating the jobs and you nitwits are complaining again. What motive could be behind having a car plant in Nigeria if not for job creation?? What school did you attend by the way? And which man keeps this baggage in his house?? I hate when dumb pple like you see nothing good in the govt of their country. Next time if you don't know what to comment, switch off ur tecno fone and throw it inside water anu ofia.
Delete@anonymous ghost, grow the guts! unveil that curtain of anonymity of ur first! Is obvious u seek to be noticed and from the tone of ur write up, u lack exposure! ur simply locked up in a miniature mentality. Grow up, get exposed and be matured before trying counter my opinion. At the moment, u are irrelevant! Buuuuuzzzzz Off! Ewu Lokoja.
DeleteGood that investors are coming to Nigeria. Good for the economy and for employment opportunities. Hope quality will be maintained. I wonder how they'll cope with the erratic power supply. Power generators I suppose, all adding to over-head costs. Well let's be optimistic.
ReplyDelete@ princess charming, you get sense joor...#Benny#
ReplyDeleteKisses... ☺
DeleteWho says made in Nigeria cars are not strong? Have we forgotten the Peugeot 504 and 505 so soon? Good move sha. At least new jobs will be created.
ReplyDeleteI am waiting.
ReplyDeletethis is great news, reminded me of when I was young, Nigeria was assembling Peugeot and Volkswagen cars, close to Ojo Cantoment, I used to be amazed at the number of automobiles then, all neatly parked in rows. Our case is like that of a badly damaged vehicle that has a long journey to make, I know Nigeria will get there.
ReplyDeleteHope all dese our "ghana must go bag" leaders will patronise "made in nigeria" cars. We dey watch!
ReplyDeleteIrene if u are seriously Pls contact me jackymfon@gmail.com d gUy stays in ph
ReplyDeleteWell,i really pray this works, cos the only consolation is that it will be a brand new car!theres no peace like driving a brand new car....
