SIR AHMADU BELLO'S (Sardauna) Christmas message To Northern Christians In 1959....

What do you think about this message to Christians many years back?

''We are people of many different races, tribes and
religions, who are knit
together by common
history, common interests
and common ideals.

Our diversity may be great but the things that
unite us are stronger than the things that divide us.

On an occasion like this, I
always remind people
about our firmly rooted
policy on religious
tolerance. Families of all creeds and colour can rely
on these assurances.

We have no intention of favouring one religion at
the expense of another.

Subject to overriding need to preserve law and order, it is our
determination that everyone should have
absolute liberty to practice his beliefs.

It is befitting on this momentous day, on behalf of my ministers
and myself, to send a
special word of gratitude
to all Christian missions.

Let me conclude this with a personal message. I
extend my greetings to all our people who are
Christians on this great
feast day. Let us forget the difference in our religion and
 remember the common brotherhood
before God, by dedicating
ourselves afresh to the
great tasks which lie
before us. --SIR AHMADU BELLO SARDAUNAN SOKOTO,
PREMIER NORTHERN REGION IN 1959

    1. You don't what you are saying. Is this not the same that is on record (video) saying back then that they will rather hire expatriates from abroad then hire fellow Nigerians from southern Nigeria to fill vacancies in northern Nigeria?

But I just got an alert. boo sent me some cash enough to buy a drink, get a decent meal and go to bed a little horny but who cares. Sex with him is worth the wait.
God bless my boyfriend,my man,my smile!
It's not the cash, it's d gesture I feel cared for, thought about and loved.
So though I'm lonely(and may be in more years) but love goes beyond physical presence.

  9. Pls don't be deceived by these pple who have been paying lip service to NIgeria's unity/development since inception.
This same PUNK when interviewed by a white journalist sometime in the 60's about jobs placed Northerners and expatriates(including the interviewing journalist)above all other NIgerians.
These Morons set the tone for the rot in our country today

  19. I weep for Nigeria. Gone are the days when we had true leaders who put their differences aside and made sure they worked with the interest of the people at heart. Now, all we have are greedy, clueless, visionless leaders.

  20. There is a difference between political intolerance, religious bigotry and ethnic sentimentality. These three issues are very important when critiquing people with diverse views. @Alex and Diggah should at least read the positive meanings in this message than read another one into it. Besides, what was the social context that prompted Ahmadu Bello's idea of the work labour for the Northerners and expatriate? Do not read things out of their context and also, try to make at least small meaning from positive things. A small black dot on a white cloth does not make the entire white cloth dirty. Try to see the other white parts of the cloth which is even 99.99% more than the black dot.

  25. Gen. Buhari could have as well written the above message to christians after instigating the killing of Youth corpers[ who were southern and Christians] because he lost a presidential election.

It is not what these people say, but what they practice that matters.

If and when APC chooses Buhari as their flag bearer, i am waiting to see how they would expect the southern christians to vote for him.

  26. Stella I dont believe this statement...cos Sir Bello was somewhat a sectional leader...if true, then it is a pretentious statement.

This same Sarduana was quoted to have said, 2 wks after independence,...“This new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great grandfather Othman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We use the minorities in the north as willing tools and the south as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us and never allow them to have control over their future.” – Parrot Newspaper October 12, 1960.
