Oshiomole Apologises Over ''Go And Die'' Comment Made To Widow.....

Oshiomole telling the widow to ''go and die..''

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo today Friday November 29,2013 apologised for the comments he made to a widow in Benin during an inspection tour on Mission Road, in the state capital, a fortnight ago.

Oshiomhole said that he now regretted the comments which had become the subject of discourse in the social media.

The Governor, however, noted that he made the comments in anger.
Oshiomhole’s apology was made when the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), paid him a courtesy visit in Benin.
He noted that though the challenge of modern times had bestowed on the shoulders of some women and single mothers the status of bread winners of their homes, such should not be used as an accuse to flout the laws……………culled

*Okay he has apologised...fine but shouldn't he be apologising to the lady?shouldn't he be returning
her wares that was taken away?shouldn't he ask if she has children and put them on government scholarship to help ease her burden? He has apologised to FOMWAN and that's it?

Anyone who reads this can say i am hating on the governor but that's your two cents,Oshiomole needs to look for that woman and make it up to her...He abused her emotionally..he took away her only source of livelihood and only God knows how she has managed to put food on the table since then.

Please if you know Oshiomole, tell him to do the right thing...i am sure i speak the mind of a few people...this is my two cents and i am not moving an inch forward or backward.

    2. Edo state PDP Press release "Edo PDP watched with consternation Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s brutal, inhuman and merciless treatment of a widow street-trader whose wares he ordered seized and who he unfeelingly told to ‘…go and die’ even as she knelt down in fervent protestations and appeals to his pity on a helpless widow. The governor’s actions are appalling, insensate, disgraceful, indecent, cruel and below board. It is clear that he does not care much about the well being of the people as he pretentiously avowed. Our hearts go to that hapless widow in this her time of travails and through her, to other widows who have been oppressed by the unfriendly policies of the administration in Edo State. The PDP, Edo State will not let any Edo person ‘to go and die’ if it can help it, especially not hardworking people like that widow who are engaged in lawful enterprises that are, in themselves, not easy to carry on. To this end, our party has instituted an endowment fund for all widows and oppressed people in the state and by this release, we invite the widow captured in the video of the encounter with Governor Oshiomhole to come to the PDP Secretariat on No. 70, Sapele Road, at 11am on Tuesday December 3, 2013 to receive a first-installment sum of N250,000.00 to cushion the pain, trauma and loss occasioned by her mistreatment and the seizure of the items she sells. Governance is about the people and as a responsible National Institution, Edo PDP cannot be unconcerned about the wrong treatment of indigenes of the state to whom the present administration promised heaven just to win their votes." Signed Dan Orbih State chairman Edo state PDP

  4. I agree with you Stella though he doesn't have to single out her children for scholarship. There are so many widows in Edo State and it is not until they are abused by the Governor before their children can also get a shot at a better life.

My take is he should create a programme targeted to empowering widows with children.

In a normal advance country/society he sud hv been force to resign by now bcus he was voted to serve the people and not the other way round by claiming to be demi-god. rubbish man i must say and a widower for that matter enjoying public funds

  13. He should withdraw that statement, apologise to the lady and return her wares. He sounded so callous and you could see that air of shoulder lifting (igberaga) around him when he was talking. If he was not showing off, shouldnt he have just asked for her to take her things away and not create a scene - simply ugly at heart!!!

  16. U are so on point. The man of all people should know better. I guess this is what tasting money and having power does to people. This man used to be a Labour leather fighting for the masses so we thought then not knowing that he was only doing that for his personal ambition. A lot if people used to idolized him for his principles and un compromised character . Yeah right !!! Nothing of such since he has been the governor. Luckily for him. He can only do that kind if nonsense and get away with it in Naija. He dare not try this is US or any civilized country for that matter. He would have either be pressured by his party to resign or make a very open apology to the woman . Hypocrite and useless diarrhea mouth man. I used to look up to him back them when he was a labor leather as an inspiration not knowing that he was as fake as they come. That is abusing office power on a poor woman looking for a means of livelihood for his family. How dare he? He had lost my personal respect for him and I know that he doesn't 't care about my personal respect as an individual but I know that a lot of people have no regard for him again too. Verbal abuse in private can be traumatized not to talk of being abuse in public from someone in the position to stop people from being bully or abuse both in private or public . THIS MAN IS A BULLY AND AN IDIOT. And he owes this woman a public apology same way he abuse her . There are many civilized way he could have handled the situation. Uncivilized bunch of idiots that treats citizen like animals. Thank God I live where my voice and opinion matters .

    3. Well, irrespective of the grammar, he/she made a salient point. His humanitarian characteristics drowned the day he mounted the throne of leadership. Same with Reuben Abati whom I used to adore for his eloquence, ruggedness, and intelligence. Soon as he became the presidency spokes person his passion for the masses was withdrawn...He channelled it to fight for the unjust. it aches my heart. No wonder it is often said that you tend to know a man's truest character only when he's in a position of authority.

It is only in Nigeria that government make laws to inconvenient the masses while they neglect their duties. Nothing is in place for the citizens no job creation, poor roads, poor health system yet they make law to stop people who have managed to create employment for them self to meet up their basic needs. God is watching you

But i think It's a form of manipulation!the truth remains she was wrong, but the 'widow thing has created sentiment to cover pple's eyes from seeing.we really need to learn to be more logical than emotional in our judgement if we must fix things!
Disclaimer :i am not in support of the guvnor's choice of words!
As I was saying for eg,weeks ago a thief crept into my neighbourhood with an unloaded gun(well maybe he forgot, was rushing. To duty lol)luckily the man he entered his house was a strong and daring man,he overpowered him and raised alarm, when pple gathered trust, they started beating him,the bloody thief started telling us he's an orphan and he's epileptic so pple should pls mercy him,so should such a deadly creature be pitied cos he said such things?thats pure manipulation pple are using lately.
Well he was given a beautiful 'parting gift'of a broken leg before the cops came to take him away!#tongue out#

  22. Oshiomhole really needs to apologise to this woman. It's more than just apologising orally, he needs to back it up with actions. I never knew how viral this video has gone until I saw comments from Femi Fani Kayode on facebook. The good thing is that the woman's life will never be the same again. Japhet Omojuwa has raised N164,000.00 on twitter the last time I checked and my sister-in-law also mentioned on facebook that she has a friend who is willing to give the woman N500,000. She asked for the woman's address in Benin. How I wish someone knows her address.

I'm surprised that Adams Oshiomhole, who used to be a labour leader could use such cruel words on a woman who obviously is living from hand to mouth. Well, that's what power does, it intoxicates. I really appreciate the blogs also for making this known to the public. In fact, if I am not mistaken, blogs were the first to make this cruelty known.

Oshiomhole should remember there is a God in heaven and He raises the poor and makes them sit with kings and He also ridicules the proud. He should learn to be humble.

  28. apology is not enough? he should settle her so that other widows can come to the roadside with their wares in a bid to get their own settlement? she broke the law for God sake! should disobedience be rewarded in our society?

  29. This useless old fool, sometime I wonder how my late aunty married e useless self.

  30. Single her out, apologise, I agree with you SDK. And also create an avenue for helping widows in the state. But returning her wares? That's not going to happen. Tomorrow some other widow will break the law and shed tears so that they'll receive pity and their wares won't be siezed. What then do we encourage in our society? We have widows who abide by the law, so it's not as if it's a big deal. The law is the law, no matter your status. Nigerians are notorious for disregarding regulations all over the world that sometimes we use our pitiable state as an excuse to break rules. Which developed nation will condone widows or poor people breaking laws? None. So, in as much as I join the call for Oshiomhole's special apology to the widow, and setting up an avenue to assist widows and families in the state, I maintain that she, on her part, has to face the consequence of her action. It's not difficult obeying laws as a poor person. I was once poor too. Jesus Christ was poor. Be blessed.

  33. Friends, My opinion is that we need to approach issues of Policy and leadership with less emotions. The video that went viral online we all watch most likely. It is clear that they team led by was trying to enforce a rule. In as much there would have been better ways to put that, I think we cannot neglect the fact that rules need to be obeyed. I have been at at the airport and lads cut with drugs claim that they are orphans and need to take care of there family and decided to do drugs. Now I ask, If I go into armed robbery because I am a poor orphan or because I need to pay a family bill, should I be treated differently from other armed robbers? Please let me mention here that I am really not a fan of Comrade Adams but please friends, while we share the pain of the woman, let us know that there is no excuse to default a law or commit crime. If we think she needs to be rewarded, then in my view, all other Widows in the state who abide my the rules too should even be rewarded more.

  34. Apologise to her for what? She knews she was a widow, why did she not thread softly knowing quite alright she has no husband to support her and that she has only God? Why was she flaunting orders and laws? in a bid to do ur duty in Nigeria you would always be tagged wicked by the same people that are clamouring for good governance. 37. If she broke the law and her wares were seized in accordance with the law, the governor does not have to return them. Will he return the wares of others who are orphans, widows, widowers, single and lonely etc?

He doesn't have to give her money or train her kids. Why should she be singled out and compensated for breaking the law? What about the other widows in Benin? Should they start breaking the law to get favour from the governor?

He said something bad to her. He has apologised. He may decide to go a step further by inviting her to apologise one on one and give her whatever his heart pleases. Its now a private affair that doesn't need any publicity.
