They wanted Saturday morning bribe from my friends who were just coming into Lagos from Abuja, they accused them of driving pass red light ,threatened fire and brimstone and demanded for N20k,seized the car papers and waited for the money brandishing their guns but the people used sense and style to settle N2k,the Inspector laughed, collected the money, returned the paper and they drove off.
They were advised by the inspector to settle at that spot or face the consequences....
The recording began late but you will see where the Inspector collected the N2k and released the papers.
will there ever be an end to this?seems to be getting worse even with all the recent recordings by Lagosians.
*they probably thought my friend was playing with her phone as she recorded, she started late recording because she dey fear!..lol
Na wa oooooo. Nigerian policemen can neva change. Dey haven't learnt deir lesson yet.
ReplyDeleteif you drive in naija, you will know its a normal procedure.there salary is a peanuts..I don't blame them.Country hard
ReplyDeleteAre u now saying pple that don't earn fat salaries should resort to this?
DeleteLinda! Linda!! Linda!!! You need to go back to school honestly. Na beg I dey this time.
DeleteLinda so ur own salary is not hard earned n u can afford to 'bribe' ur way out ecery time?
DeleteSpot on Memphis! We need to know our rights and abide by the rules and none of these effing police men can intimidate us!
DeleteNa wah o. He had better loose his job. Tiff man
ReplyDeleteboth parties are guilty, your friends should also be ashamed they have no moral ground to stand on. That said it's utterly disgraceful what our policemen get up to, I was robbed by real policemen in Warri in 1993, it's an experience I would not wish on my enemies. So bribe taking is a piece of cake compared to what the police can do. Evil pervades our police force, their terrible habits won't change because of all the video recordings, they will only become more cautious when carrying out their illegal activities. I commend those brave enough to record these extortive activities of our policemen, we must not relent, it is our duty as citizens to continue exposing corruption till our so called leaders pay attention
ReplyDelete@hakeem, moral ground? Noooooo..hv u seen whr a police officer shoot because of N20..the frnds in question hv done their quota by recording it. I weep for my Fatherland. Tinu
DeleteThis bribe issue is partly the fault of the police and the civilians. The police collect bribe mostly from people who break the law. If people abide wholeheartedly by the rules in Nigeria where will the bribe spring from?
ReplyDeleteI've had at least 3 encounters with the police, the latest was when they stopped my vehicle and demanded that they take me to the station for search, because they saw my laptop and some office documents. I refused, and challenged them that, though they had the right to search me, they had no right to take me to any station unless I had something incriminating or I was officially under arrest. I let them know that I was no novice, and even quoted some sub-sections of their Police-Act. Seeing that I obviously knew about my constitutional rights they said, "abeg oga, de go de go de go..".
When these ingrates want to intimidate you, show them your stuff, and they'll back away. The police, if they take you to the station seeing you're a novice to the law, will make you part with betwwen N2k-N3k, and sometimes tell you to sign a document that you were released without bail money. The N2k-N3k goes to mama nkwobi. Know your rights, and abide by the rules. God Bless.
I concur
DeleteI totally agree with you Memphis, if you know your right nobody can intimidate you. People fear because of what our system has become.
DeleteWho questions them when there is a stray bullet?
Who questions them when innocent people are killed and portrayed as armed robbers?
The system is sick, but if we all stand up for what we know nobody(uniform man) will intimidate you.
GBAM
DeleteSpot on Memphis!
DeleteSpot on Memphis!
DeleteMrs Ezeh, their salary is peanuts so they should be robbing people? They can not even do their job right and I should be paying for their incompetence. This is the attitude of the regular Nigerian and why we will never change. These police men wield guns and misfire all willy nilly, should I blame it on "Country is hard" if they mistakenly misfire and I lose my life or the lives of my loved ones. Abeg think before commenting please.
ReplyDeleteaunty stella, abeg post about the uke adoration mayhem in anambra yesterday9t. i hear say 10 persons don die,
ReplyDeleteAbeg don't argue with Naija police oo and pls don't listen to memphis. Settle and leave especially at night. A dead man has no case. I was driving around amuwo adofin 2months ago and was stopped by a group of policemen for having a tinted car. I stood my ground telling them it was factory fitted. They insisted on me paying some bribe or going to the station. I offered them 1k and before I knew it,I was at the station. When I got to the station,I saw 3 well built hefty men on the floor. One was dead, the other were barely breathing and the last had gunshot wounds on him. I saw 5 people in front of the station chatting 'kill them' and a more vocal woman in the station also taunting the 2men on their impending death. Infact,I was temporarily forgotten because, the men who accompanied me to the station were congratulating and gisting with their colleagues. I quickly asked the woman what the men did and she was so happy to tell;they were the armed robbers who came to her salon in the morning to steal handset and other petty things and now, they had been caught. This was around 9pm.I went cold because,I couldn't relate the poverty stricken woman with the 'big boys' I saw on the floor;how could they steal her handset and how sure was she that it was them?. The wristwatch one of the 'robbers' was wearing could buy her. No pun intended.I started thinking, what if I was placed beside these men and shot, who will I tell my story to? What if I am killed before I can call any of my 'contacts'?How do I know these men were not set up? I quickly emptied my pocket and was even ready to go to the ATM. So my friends,a dead man can't talk. You can fight/argue in a civilised country but not in naija. I wonder what happened to those men? I am sure they were dumped in some canal in festac.

ReplyDeleteSo many negativity surrounding Nigerian Police Force.
ReplyDeleteMtcheeew, Nigerian Police? The worst in the world ( in my opinion )
ReplyDeleteSo stella you are applauding your friend for beating the red light Mschewwwww yeye dey smell, your friend needs to submit her brain for checking am not even gonna to try to blame the police people smh
ReplyDeleteLinda EZe loves Billie Jean...I will ignore your comments..because people like you and your sense of validation of wrong doing is appalling!....hopefully the next time you step out the police will stop you and accuse you of something you didn't do and you will pay them all they ask for...
ReplyDeletePlease remember to give them extra since they r not bing paid a lot of money
Memphis, I really like ur blog personality; can we be friends?, pls don't say no *pouting*
ReplyDeletememphis u could have said it better! correct
ReplyDeleteLol @ oga de go de go
ReplyDeleteThis shit will only stop if the scrap the whole damn police force!they are too hungry to stop o_jare!

ReplyDeleteSilly Linda when Is *their* used as there, learn to be corrected...
Deleteeither your friends recorded it or not it won't change that much.
ReplyDeletethese kind of acts are symptomatic of the harsh reality the Nigerian Police are going through.
when policemen are forced to donate 5k out of their salaries to IGP every ilea, xmas e.t.c how many of you published it?
when their allowances are not paid and they live worse than beggars how many highlighted their situation?
we just start because nothing will change until we took out individual social responsibility serious and highlighted what they are going through
Chei Linda Eze loves Billie Jean pls go back to school like Julit advised cos u r such an illiterate not just in d way u reason but also in d way u write and u always want to comment on every post *smh 4 u girl* Monica
ReplyDeleteAnon9:40 PM,keep correcting.Na you go tire
ReplyDeleteMemphis chop knuckle!
ReplyDeleteGbam! Gbamer!! Gbamest!!!
Linda please stop while you are ahead. I guess the kidnappers and armed robbers have to rob as well since country is hard. I pray most Nigerians do not think like you. Like you were told earlier....reason before you type. What you said makes no sense. Are the police the only ones suffering? My only responsibility is to obey the law and not give them Roja. I weep when I read comments like yours...it says Naija is going no where fast.
ReplyDeleteHas any 1 given it a thot dat linda eze's husband might just b a policeman?
ReplyDeleteAll u laxy fools attacking Linda SHTFU, I wish u are in police shoes so u could gudge properly, they receive peanuts as salary.
ReplyDeleteThe police men should also try to get a video clip when they are making the said 5k donation to the IG and put it in public domain..My friend go and sleep, guess you are drunk from free beer;today is Sunday it is understandable.
ReplyDeletePeople please don't listen to Memphis abeg. If you annoy an officer who is high or doesn't send, all it takes is a shot to your head, guns planted in your car and suddenly you become an armed robber trying to flee.
ReplyDeleteEven in the US where there is law and order, black men don't play. It's sir, yes sir to the officer. Officers have been known to plant drugs in the car.
I so agree with you Luca.
