What a sad loss….RIP.
May his soul rest in peace
ReplyDeleteOk.... this is officially bad, abeg ASUU should not use this sorrowful event to harden their hearts. may his soul RIP.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the strike should be called off in his memory...
This is so sad. For those of us that went to university in the 80s, we all knew him. A thoroughbred professional and disciplinarian. May he rest in peace
ReplyDeleteFirst, we lost Prof Agbadudu previous Masters in Business Admin (MBA) HOD - Uniben, now the Incumbent HOD is gone. Adieu the no nonsense, Prof Festus Iyayi. The only man who had the courage to stand up against UNIBEN when he was unjustly sacked by order of the then ruling president Obasanjo ... You will be greatly missed Sir
ReplyDeleteYes! He is the. Current Uniben MBA HOD. RIP Prof. MBA 2010/2011 Set will miss your strict attendance policy and preventing a speaker from a well known state from attending the "compulsory" MBA Part time lecture with his body guards. Memories keeps floating... How you failed anyone who misses your lectures... How MBA part time students booed you out of the class and you vowed never to teach the class again and subsequently "dealt" with them.... How you frustrated Uniben MBA students and threatened not to waive any MBA courses for them, but the decision is still pending. The list is endless. We lost a good man. And last but not the least, you are my project supervisor and reviewed and approved only 3 chapters for me since 2012. My own don finish ooooooooooo. Death why take him?
DeleteThis ur comment is long o... Too lazy to read it

ReplyDeleteRip sir,its well with Nigeria! His death could have been avoided if the roads were good or fixed. #i have a dream but I pray it comes true in our life time. Too many ills in our country!
ReplyDeleteThey don kill am.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I can't believe Iyayi is dead. I still remember reading 'Violence' as a little girl and hoping to meet him one day. This really sucks! Dammit! First Achebe, Kofi Awoonor and now Iyayi? What's happening to my 'literary' heroes? #breaks down in tears
ReplyDeleteThe course; "Behavioural Science" can never be taught by any other lecturer. You alone hold the Ace... Who recall those classes. MBA and Uniben Business Admin students... Where you at? Black Tuesday! Uniben has lost the best of the best.
ReplyDeleteThey just wasted this man for us! Chei!! http://mobile.saharareporters.com/news-page/iyayi-killed-kogi-governor%E2%80%99s-convoy
ReplyDeleteThis is particularly painful for me because I have always seen him as a wonderful writer. May his soul Rest In Peace
ReplyDeleteHa! My favorite Nigerian writer oooo. May his soul rest in peace. Kai!
ReplyDeleteKogi state governor idris wada whose life was almost snuffed out recently in his own convoy culdnt learn a lesson in sobriety. His notoriously reckless convoy has taken d life of anoda family man. Ao many souls wil our politicians kill b4 a law is enacted to curb and criminalise dangerous driving by our politicians? RIP Prof
ReplyDeleteWhy is no one mentioning that it's kogi state government convoy, that killed him
ReplyDeleteSo so so sad. RIP my brother and mentor
ReplyDeleteStella he was a Professor and not a Doctor (PhD.)
ReplyDeleteSad he died this way. Is it that a lot of papers are trying to downplay this?
"His car somersaulted several times in a bid to avoid collision with one of the police vehicles in the convoy of Kogi state governor, which suddenly swerved on the path of Iyayi’s vehicle. Witnesses said Iyayi’s vehicle somersaulted several times. Other ocupants of the vehicle were said to be in critical condition."
Madam, you cannot attain the rank of a Prof without bagging a Phd. Prof Iyayi was also a Dr. And Yes, Stella is correct.
DeleteCorrecter, in ranking, when you attain a higher rank, u drop the lower one . So it is wrong to call a professor a doctor...just like it is wrong to call a married woman Miss or call a lieutenant, sergent.....
DeleteAsuu can like to call off strike now. RIP sir
ReplyDeletemadam stella yo news is confusing o..which one is Association Of Senior Staffs Of University? ASSU?? OR ASUU??
ReplyDeleteRIP festus Iyayi,I remember reading his book Violence in Secoundary school and also in Uni.a brilliant mind is gone
ReplyDeleteRip sir. Y isn't anyone taking up the major issue here? What is it with the lack of regards for life that these politicians and people with convoys keep displaying? The same thing almost happened with me as I was carrying my kids to school. They just drive recklessly as though the life they are carrying is more than the other ones on the road. This needs to come to a complete halt! We need to have systems in place that check all theses excesses. Had this happened in a more civilized country - damn! Even Ghana! What would be the fall out! Wake up Nigerians! Enough is absolutely enuf! Ahan!
ReplyDeleteI have always dreamt of meeting this man of great courage who stood up against the tyranical rule of General Sani Abacha back then. O! what a loss and what is it with these governors convoy ramming into innocent people? You will be greatly and sorely missed sir
ReplyDeleteOga, you misunderstood me. I put Dr (PhD) to differentiate from a Dr (M.D/MBBS.) I am not assuming that everyone knows all his qualifications. Your first comment is superfluous. No dispute about him being both, however the higher degree takes precedence and he should be addressed as a Prof and not a Dr. A very great professor for that matter.
ReplyDeleteThis regime will always forever be remembered for one thing-he/his convoy killed a University don! Last warning, if he/his convoy should kill anyone again or even just an accident. He should be made to face trial either now or when he finishes his tenure. ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL!
