Obi Emelonye.
For the first time in the history of the film industry in Nigeria, a film would be making its debut at the cinemas and online simultaneously. This is happening through renowned film maker Obi Emelonye, with his film ‘Onye Ozi’ (The Messenger). The film, ‘a psychological comedy thriller’ shot in Igbo language but subtitled in English will be premiered on the 18th of October at a gala event in Camberwell, London while from the arrangement, Nollywood fans around the world can also watch the film through online partners like IROKO, IBAKA, and DISTRIFY.
“This is the first time a global premiere, live somewhere and online worldwide is being done,” says Emelonye. “The potential for online monetisation is becoming clearer for Nollywood. Since debuting on Iroko TV, the Mirror Boy and Last Flight to Abujahave experienced unprecedented success. And on Youtube,Last flight to Abuja has been watched nearly a million times in just two weeks. I am really excited about the online premiere.”
According to him, the Nigeria premiere of the film is coming in November 2013, followed by a cinema release of the film, a process that would make Onye Ozi, the first Igbo language film to have a cinema theatrical release.

DeleteWhich kind of champion? Please Obi and Kunle Afolayan need to stop their nonsense of always claiming nonsense. Hot air balloons
ReplyDeleteThanks for this observation.I looked forward to watching kunle's figurine. I need to know how that movie, with cheap make~ shift locations, gulped millions of whatever currency!

DeleteSince this comment is about movies let me air my views. Who has watched weekend getaway??? Well, I missed the movie when it was showing at the cinema. So, yesterday, I bought a DVD copy for N500. I went home with so much glee, u know with that kind of cast, I was in for a good time, or so I thought. I WAS SO DISSAPPOINTED. Extremely disappointed. I love other REMMYJES movies, but WEEKEND GETAWAY is a total flop. Yes I say so. I no blame the three producers, I blame the governor that sponsored the movie. No wonder that movie hasn't won any award. Mtcheeeew
ReplyDeleteThanks for this comment.I also bought last flight to abuja with the same intent but av not been able to finish watching it for over a month. Nollywood needs to step up their game abeg
DeleteMy dear! I was too disappointed with that movie too. Clomplosetse waste of my money and time

DeleteAm happy Obi is setting the pace with an indigenous language..showing Africa to the world using Igbo lang.Hope the subtitle will not misinform.Kee ndi bu cast&crew egwuruegwu ejije nka ?
ReplyDeleteI watched and recorded 'the making' as it was shown on Ben tv days back...All i can say is that Obi Emelonye has done Nollywood proud...I wish i knew him,to sing praises of the good thing he has done...I could not help but grin all through watching how he pulled it off...Even Okey Bakkasi was impressed ...You could see all the white people (actors) struggling to get all the Igbo intonation of what they were asked to pronounce...these are points where and when i wished i could speak Ibo.. to have a thorough understanding of what is being said in the film...No problem...Hoping to watch it when its out..Nice film i'd say...Very,very nice.
ReplyDeleteMallama Jamilah
Mirror boy sucks. Haven't met anyone who enjoyed it.
DeleteLast flight to abuja was much better.it dint feel like I was watching a naija movie. I was impressed wit the quality of the movie. Good storyline but don't Like the end. The film is generally not interesting. It is just there.
Obviously Obi emelonye has skills. Next time, i'll advice him to get a talented script writer to put down his ideas cos he is not a good script writer. That's where d fault in his movies is coming from
But
Obi Emelonye could give the script writing to Adesua Atuanya. She's very good

ReplyDeleteGod bless you for the comment about the movie weekend getaway. It will rank amongst the worst nollywood movies I've ever seen.Trying to shoehorn many incompatible actors into one movie is a recipe for disaster. They thought we will be wowed by the ibom meridien resort location and neglected a good storyline?that movie is really wack.On the flipside,i have a feeling that it was a real live experience of what went down, just sad that the scenes acted by the lead actor and producer,Gov Akpabio has been edited/censored/deleted.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is obviously making great movies. Great to have that one in our local dialect.

Thank u oooo...weekend getaway, worst movie I've ever seen! So so terrible. With all the hype, all na wash! Terrible storyline, just pack actors dere and it was still not worth watching. Last flight 2 abuja wasn't bad sha...
ReplyDeleteAs long as Okey Bakassi is in it, i will pay to watch. the trailer does not look bad at all.
ReplyDeleteThis Obi guy still has a long to go in order to redeem himself in my books. That Mirror boy was a disaster for me. If i was him, i will exclude it from my CV. That flick was horrible.
If you thought the mirror boy was bad, have you seen last flight to Abuja. Fell asleep in the cinema and ending up snoring waking up the person beside me who also fell asleep. Two word for that movie ........boring.
