Charles Taylor To Spend The Rest Of His Life In British Jail.......
Appeals judges have upheld the conviction of former Liberian President Charles Taylor on Thursday, reaffirming the 50-year prison sentence he was given last year for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during Sierra Leone's civil war.
Presiding judge George Gelaga King said Taylor had provided advice and encouragement to Revolutionary United Front and Armed Forces Revolutionary Council rebels, knowing full well the kinds of crimes they were committing.
"Their primary purpose was to spread terror. Brutal violence was purposely unleashed against civilians with the purpose of making them afraid, afraid that there would be more violence if they continued to resist," he said.
"Governments and the international community were also afraid that unless the RUF's and the AFRC's demands were met, thousands more killings, mutilations, abductions and rapes of civilians would follow."
Taylor, 65, sat impassively throughout the reading of the judgement, rising at the end to hear his sentence. He was to be transferred from the seaside detention centre that has been his home since 2006 to a British maximum security prison.
Judges last year convicted him on 11 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity for aiding and abetting the rebels who murdered, raped and pillaged their way through neighbouring Sierra Leone during an 11-year civil war which cost some 50,000 lives until 2002...web report
Blog visitor whats your take on this crime and punishment?should they have let him go judging that he is now old and needs family and love around him?
*The evil that men do lives after them!....take heart charlie boy!

Every man should be able to bear the consequences of his actions!
ReplyDeleteDuhhhh
ReplyDeleteWhen did old age become a ground for freeing criminals?
What's 65 when even 80 year olds are jailed?
Every man should be ready and able to bear the consequences of his actions
ReplyDeleteGbam!!!!!
DeleteMy issue is with selective justice to africans. Wat of bush and blair? How many did they kill? Just shud be served to all.
ReplyDeleteNext should be obasanjo....well, only in my dreams do things like that happen anyway.

ReplyDeleteOn the taxpayers money. I read Britain may reject it and he may end up in a Rwandan prison.
ReplyDeleteTake heart charlie boy. You deserve what u r getting now.
ReplyDeleteThank God he is even getting life and not being sentenced to death, so at least he has enough time to think about all the evil things he has done...God dey
ReplyDeleteHe has sent many to their early grave and many were maimed for life. Releasing will be dangerous. I support the judgement 100%. Kensport
ReplyDeleteI ve a dream, that one day,Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, will be locked up in Alcatraz and the key thrown into the dead sea ! BTW, Where are charlie's Diamonds now?
ReplyDeleteMugabe will surely die as a president. Evil men.
DeleteLol!!
Delete*Meted out* thank me later
DeleteWhen he was cooking the food, he was fully aware of the ingredients being used. It's only fair for his dish to be served to him. To all those Naija politicians who think it's "once in power, always in power", this should open their eyes to the fact that nothing lasts forever.
ReplyDeleteHe should just respect himself and quietly serve his sentence. At least his ears are not being chopped off, nor his body being chopped into pieces. Cooked and eaten like he did Samuel Doe
ReplyDeleteHow about the magnitude of harsh brutality he melted out to the opposition groups . Babies being ripped out of pregnant women.
Young women gang raped by his people. Let us not forget about those terms: long sleeve or short sleeve. Referring to how you want your arm to cut off.
The cries of the unborn, the dead and the suffering never ceased. They were heard today!
Enjoy you time in jail Mr Taylor.
I am out.
It's been a long time coming.
ReplyDeleteHe go dey eat well, get good health care na only freedom he no go get! What of the people that are still suffering till date cos of havoc he caused! Make he dey rest for prison
ReplyDeleteAunty stella, I don comment as anonymous tire, but u've never posted my comment. I still Luv u shaa, ehe! On Mr. C.T, it's now" the evil that men does, lives with them" he should live with the consequences of his action, he should have remembered then that a day like this will/may come. Justice has been served. But this one na life sentence ooooo.
ReplyDeleteTit for tat i guess...God's lov can pardon and redeem him or any of such bt his judgement is more severe.Ask those who in hell fire, they wl tel you.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that there is justice at the end of the road for people who've been made to suffer untold hardship. I believe must of our leaders here in Nigeria deserve such harsh sentences but alas after they leave office they join the elite group of 'Naija Untouchables'. I feel the sentence is good for him.
ReplyDeleteMchew ..... Serves the devil right. Wish he could sent to those Indonesian prisons. Hope the British reject him.
ReplyDeleteI feel the sentence is good for him.Where are charlie's Diamonds now? www.enyinnayaemma.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteMchew ..... Serves the devil right. Wish he could sent to those Indonesian prisons. Hope the British reject him.
ReplyDeleteA mild sentence for a chronic monster. Such people should die with swollen stomach instead of feeding on taxpayers' sweat and blood.
ReplyDeleteBTW where are the diamonds *Charlie boy*? Or will that also be a dead end like John F. Kennedy's case?
How about if he served it in a sierra leonan prison.everlasting torment!
ReplyDeleteServe him right. Evil man.
ReplyDeleteHe is lucky that it's inside the jail they are putting him because I would have sentenced him to live UNDER the jail with no human contact for the 50 years with the sound of dripping water piping into his cell on a speakers. A British jail is too posh for the likes of him, he should have gotten a one way ticket to Kirikiri.
ReplyDeleteHe has to face the consequences

Y prolonging it all? Death by hanging would have been more appropriate
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they're sending him to a british prison.british prisons are soft! Let him serve his sentence in his country, so the prisoners there can deal with him! Wicked man.
ReplyDeletethe predator is now the prey, I am laughing in my local dialect
ReplyDeleteno my dear, death slowly is the best for people like this. Do u know incaseration is the worst form of punishment?
ReplyDeleteUntil we see the weapon of mass destruction bush claimed was in Iraq, he should also be persecuted and blair too.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you. You see the truth
