Let us discuss abortion and please back up your arguement with a bible passage where God specifically refers to abortion being a sin....A passage where the bible refers to the word *abortion*would help..
I weep when i see how some kids are born into this world to suffer....i saw a child born without legs and arms and the mother had an option to get rid of it but she opted to keep it and now the child is almost a teenager and cries everyday seeing her normal friends do stuff and gist her about disco and all that........this beautiful child is more beatuiful than ten beauty queens put together mind you.
A lady only drank alcohol when she was pregnant and birthed a child that had 80percent alcohol in its blood,that child according to doctors,will never be normal and will be dependent on machines to breathe,eat,and even sleep...shouldnt that child have been aborted?
Would it be better if a spade is called a spade and certain actions be taken or would it be stepping seriously on Gods toes when one considers an abortion as a way out?
I hope we can argue and discuss maturely...with facts and try not to cuss each other out.
Eeveryone is entitled to an opinion,albeit that it is an opinion formed out of ingorance.
Why bring a child into the world to suffer?would you term it a sin if a lady aborts a child she knows will only be sick throughout its life?

When my mother was pregnant for me, she fell ill and was given drugs dat r harmful for pregnant women. After her treatment,they ran tests and said the baby would turn deaf and blind. Abortion was medically recommended. My dad refused. He took the case to God. At 36 weeks, I was born....a beautiful girl with perfect qualities and no disabilities. Am just 22 nw,but my life has been a blessing to so many people already and am forever grateful to my dad for defending a helpless foetus. God is still God! Abortion is wrong. As long as you didn't create life, you have no right to destroy one. In the book of Jeremiah, God said He knew us from the moment of our conception, He knew our destiny from dat day and that the plans He has for us are for good and not evil. Where is the place of faith and trust if we keep taking laws into our own hands and playing God? #ProLife

Assuming both of you are so in love that you will LOVE to spend the rest of your life together, why don't you check the genotype of your child, if he or she is SS, abort/terminate the child for crying out loud. Not being able to go to the disco is really not the end of the world. Her parents could very well engage her in other activities; besides gossiping with friends who clearly don't have her best interest at heart.
There a several people without limbs who are excelling in sports. Some even perform better than their able-bodied counterparts. I have seen documentaries chronicling disabled people, particularly teenagers. They wear make up like their friends. They go shopping for outfits. They go to their prom etc.
Maybe this young lady you are speaking off, needs some new friends in her life that will not exclude her in their activities, and make her feel worthless.
Being disabled is not the end of the world. It is also not justification to end their lives even before it can begin. You never know how someone is going to turn up, so it shouldn't be up to you whether or not that pregnancy should be terminated.
I see some people mentioned sickler children, as a means to justify abortion.

Today, he is 40+, and has a child of his own. He also buried his mother 2 years ago. Doctors are not GOD. They may offer you advise, but even their recommendations are never 100%.
Doctors have been known to tell people they have a 30% chance of survival, and the patient goes on to make a full recovery. They also tell some people that their surgery will be a success, and the patient ends up dying on the operating table.

ReplyDeleteThe way I see if, it may be better not to have a child than to have it. Either ways it is a decision pple have to make for themselves. It is very easy to try to pressurise someone to either have a baby or abort, but it is d woman who has to carry the pregnancy and have her life completely disrupted that should decide if she is willing to do this. People do not think of abortion for the fun of it. There are usually hard decisions they have to make considering what is best for them in the long run. It could be the woman is HIV+ and felt she had infected the child (mostly this was during the time HIV drugs were unavailable). Or she could be thinking she cannot take care of the child. Or maybe she has no family support - everyone has thrown her out and disowned her. Or having the child means she has to withdraw from school. Am giving examples that are not the extreme cases of rape or a woman who is too young or her life is at risk. One thing u should be aware of is that sex education is lacking in nigeria. There is so little enlightenment about prevention of pregnancy, yet so much sex happening between people who are not able to bear the consequence of what they are doing. I think b4 people can start raising dust about abortion, they should consider their roles in making it needful. How much support do you give those with unwanted pregnancy. Are you sitting on ur high horse judging them and worsing their situation? And so on. I am personally for abortion because of my training & because I feel women don't have to be saddled with children they don't want. Moyherhood is an enormous responsibility, one has to be ready, prepared and supported for it.

The only circumstance where you permitted to abort a pregnancy in Islam is when your life is at risk, meaning if you don't abort the pregnancy both the mother and child would die.So abortion can be carried out to save the life of the mother.

DeleteMz Stella, before I answer this I wd like to state that I'm a medical doctor and a catholic. I said this because medicine as a profession doesn't allow abortion unless there's a risk to mother or child. Then the catholic faith doesn't allow for any form of contraception + abortion. As a person, I am pro-choice. If a woman/ young girl wants to terminate a pregnancy; in as much as its morally wrong, I try counselling @ first, tell her the psycholgical and physiological implications then tell her n d partner - if any to think it through. If they decide on it after deliberating on it, ok. I'm also of the opinion that abortion should be legalised cos the number of young females that r being lost to unsafe abortions and its complications is quite high. Above all of this, abstinence and use of appropriate contraceptive methods should be the watchword of any sexually active frmale, esp d unmarrIed ones
ReplyDeleteBeing in d medical field, abortion can be seen in different ways. If a foetus is detected to be challenged maybe bc of chromosomes, its better to abort. Or even Sickle cell. It causes emotional physical financial trauma for both child and parent. Have you seen a sickler having crisis?? You will hate the parents for bringing d child into d world. Even time when carrying d pregnancy to full term can be risky to mother, you recc abortion.

Let me try to include something in the discussion even if Aunty Stella did not thought of it to be included. The inclusion I am referring to is the Qur'an (Muslims scripture). I like to mention here the concept or idea of life in relation to the subject of this post. One of the verses of the Qur'an says about life that: "whoever kills a soul is as if one has killed the whole of mankind and whoever gives life to a soul is as if one has given life to the whole of mankind".
ReplyDeleteThis I find profound in the word of God about LIFE. The Qur'anic concept of life also admonishes that humans do not really own their lives. Which means, I do not really own my life (body, etc) as a property. My body in reality is the property of God and anything I do with my life (body) must be in line with the dictates of God.
Having said that, it is also mentioned that physically challenged people should not be looked upon as people of disability. Yes they are physically challenged in this life but their replacement is numerous with blessings in the next life. The case of the child crying after seeing other children do things which he cannot do is sad but at the same time, there is a wisdom in the child's physical disability than what the ordinary mind can fathom. That wisdom is in the infinite wisdom of the Creator of that child which human limited knowledge cannot really comprehend. It is the duty of the parents to make the child understand that there is a blessing in the child's state than what the child is really experiencing. I once watched a video of a blind boy who has become famous. He was narrating how difficult it was for him to study yet he did not give up. One striking thing the boy said that put everyone into tears was that, he is very grateful that God made him blind. He adds that if he were to be with sight, he doesn't know how much sin he would have committed just like those who have their sights.
Another good example to look at is the life of Vick Vujicic. I argue that if the guy was normal like everyone of us, he would not have attained the level that he has reached today. Just google this guy or watch his videos on youtube and tell me if aborting that guy would not be considered a great sin.
Sometimes the state of people are clear signs for us to appreciate the state in which we are in. It also shows us the manifestation of God's power in His creations.

Now look at what God said about the midwives who refused (in fear of God) to carry out Pharaoh's orders;
Exodus 1:21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.
So if you a woman has been killing in your womb, do not be annoyed with anybody when the Lord keeps you from having "family of your own". You may marry a husband but a husband is not a family.
Other Scriptures;

a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,

ReplyDeleteI am a care giver abroad, and with what i have seen, parents would have done these children a huge favor by evacuating the foetus when doctors advised them to.
ReplyDeleteMany of the parents are dead,leaving their relations guardians of these children with special needs and they don't have time for them because they have their own burdens to carry.
This is the reality on ground! Sentiments should be put aside, children with special needs must have a 24/7 care by an able adult. How many can afford that in Nigeria?
Taking care of them provides an income for us, but it is still so touching. They express anger sometimes, but medication is used to subdue and make them docile for easy management. This is not life!
Please mothers, you owe every new-born a good health, because your own mother gave that to you!
Ask the mother of the child well she might have tried to abort the baby in the first place, pls every child is a gift from God, if you are nt ready for a child now go to the nearest clinic for birth control measures. Most clinic are willing to help.

I do think that people should be allowed to choose what they want. a lot of people get this issue of abortion wrong by claiming holiness when you know you are not close to being holy.Lets be realistic here, we sin everyday and if God would judge the amount of sin we commit each day, he should have just destroy the world. There's nothing like a little sin and leave God to be the judge over that. There are so many issues dear to people and having a child when you are not ready is out of it but i'll advice ladies to protect themselves in order to reduce unwanted pregnancies.

Ha Sola!!!!!! Luca that is not how the story went o. I am a very close friend of the Alade family and I do not know the context in which Sola presented this story. It was not like that at all. His late mum Aunty Yemi NEVER contemplated abortion while she was carrying him in her womb.

We have to understand that to God, what any man does is not as important as why he did it. God judges every man's action based on the hidden motive in his heart. Man looks at outward appearance, God looks at the heart, there He sees the reason behind man's action. That being said, the question now is, why should anyone abort a baby? Many abort babies with only 'self' in consideration-"I don't need a baby now as it will inconvenience ME and disrupt MY plans", they say; some to hide shame and protect SELF from being maligned; others, simply to hide the almighty 'SELF' from being exposed to the rigors or harsh realities of raising a child. Ninety per cent of abortions today are being carried out on selfish grounds, it's all about that demi-god called 'self'. That is wrong! If your life is not at risk of death, you have no right to snuff life out of anyone, born or unborn. Deformed or not, you do not reserve the right to end a life in the guise that you're freeing the unborn child from a life-time of pain, whereas, you're actually relieving 'self' of the challenges associated in raising such a child. If you subscribe to such base thinking, you're saying that anybody who, through accident become deformed or lame should be killed instantly to escape from a life arising from such. There are many deformed people living today, who were not born that way. Until we understand that pain is a vital aspect of life, we'll keep making the wrong decisions and taking sides against God. Abortion can be carried out to save a life, yes! Aside from this, I see no other cogent reason.

SDK all your "excuse" for abortion is that the mother shouldn't allow the child to suffer. The examples you brought out protray the said mothers to be careless with their way of life and it affected their babes negatively. My own opinion thus is: unless the life of the mother is threatened as a result of pregnancy complications, abortion is wrong in any circumstances. So let's ask ourselves as christians: What would have happened if The Virgin Mary, as uncertain and scared as she was, had ABORTED Jesus Christ? Afterall, she was between 13-15 years when she was pregnant. Would it have been wrong? The value of an unborn child was echoed by Elizabeth in Luke: "and when the child in my womb heard your greeting, he leapt for joy". That child was John the Baptist. Even in the womb, 6 months foetus, he was possessed by the Holy Spirit. So, SDK, abortion is the same as murder, whether we like it or not.

ReplyDeleteAbortion is totally wrong. I don't know of a bible passage that against it, but with my personal experience ,I believe it should not be encourage no matter the situation. My mother was just 18years old when she got pregnant,and at the same time, she gained an admission to Uni Lag. Though my father wanted the pregnancy since they already had the introduction done, but she was left with two options, which is either to abort the pregnancy and go to school or live the pregnancy and face marital. With the help of good friends and my grandmother, she was convinced to let the feotus live. Lo and behold, I made it to this world. When I heard this story, I detest abortion so much, and to think that I would have been flushed down the toilet. Our destiny as been prepared, written and signed by God, and no amount of short cut can erase it. When I was in Uni Ben in 2004，my mother was also running a part time program in public admin, and today she is a Bsc graduate. No body knows what the child will become, therefore, abortion should be totally discourage.

@6:16,,let me answer ur query:as at d time i was with an 8months old baby, i was a naive,v young single mum,everybody has deserted me n hav gat to surviv wif ma baby girl,so i stoped breastfeeding her at 4months nd started runs,wit tears daily,unknown to me dat i had already taken in wen i stopped b,feeding,so i discorvered d preg at 4 goin to 5months....it was d sadest part of ma life dat i cant 4get...nd a week afta i aborted d pregg,dat ma baby girl died!! It was ma 1st,i was a teenager! Omg!! Ma heart stil bleeds!!

I know Pastor Sola very well and he certainly is not the sort of person that will make things up. You make a claim as if you know what exactly happened. He actually wrote about it in one of his books which his father has read and actually endorsed as well. As you are probably aware, his father is still alive so you can check with him if you truly know them well. Can I suggest that you refrain from calling people liars if you don't have the full story.
