Labour Union Shuts Down Diamond Bank Victoria Island Branch

This mail came in this morning.

''Good morning Stella, forgive me I can't send you a mail inbox because am a staff of this bank. As I type this to you, 10/07/2013 06:20am, DIAMOND BANK, former head office on Plot1264, Adeola Hopewell Street, Victoria Island has been shut down by Labour union again because of contract personnel and the ill treated
meted on them. No good pay and are not entitled to goodies being given to staff of the bank. Last month, these associate staff protested, media houses captured it especially Channel Tv and all Drivers, office assistants n few others were sacked with no pay. This is an eye sore Stella. I got to the road this morning and saw crowd protesting refusing entrance to staff of Diamond Bank. Pls look into these..can't something be done for these folks whose life have been dedicated to this bank...some 10-16 years of being with the bank, sacked for no reason and with a payoff? Sad! the salary margin btw our cadre n them is so wide and to think they get to do most of the job. These are folks with families pls.  ''

*Diamond Bank una wahala dey increase every day....make una close shop if market no dey again.this is barbaric!

If I hv ur card and don't hv ur pin I can't make use of ur card and vice versa, and if I keep trying to guess ur pin the atm will trap ur card as a safety measure for multiple pin trials and when u come complaining to us we atleast assist and try to show u d pix of the person that made d widrl. But note that most times this thieves which are mostly family membrs or friends will send someone else to use the atm cos they know that the atm may capture dia faces.Take am easy joor, diamond bank stand gidigba,we ain't shaking and we ain't going nowhere,we are here in ur face. 13. Why the protest? I thought the conditions and terms of service are quite set out in the employment letter which I believe was agreed upon by both parties. Na wao, na waoooooo. When you needed something there is nothing you will not do, when you have it, you become a diffrent thing entirely.
Experience have shown that if you protest, you have only succeeded in enriching someones pockect(union) at your own peril.Good luck to them

  17. Thank you For this post. A friend called that the news is here. Am a contract staff for the bank. We've been shut out since morning, most of the staff have left but most contract staff have been in the parking lot, afraid to go home because we might come to work tomorrow to hear we have been sacked. Anonymous 1:02, yes we didn't complain since because people like you didn't let us. You threaten our job day to day, we work from Sunday to Sunday, close work at odd hours, endure the maltreatment because it was better to have something to do than staying at home. Our salary is 8 times yours in the same bank, you receive profit sharing from our sweat, you receive allowances n there's none for us, while we are busy working weekends even in ill health, you are busy in shop rite, throwing money around.
The only means of transport we enjoy, you stripped us off the drivers who are also on contract BECAUSE we carried out a protest and you drive around in your tear rubber vehicle, while we struggle to catch a bus. Have you ever been attacked by armed robbers? No, they don't see you, they see us as we close late, cases of raped, one chance and injuries have been inflicted on us yet you still expect us to come to work that way or be gone. With all your money, WHERE IS YOUR PEACE?

Life itself is not fair.I worked as a contract staff in a bank and I resigned after 5months cos is crap. I ve gotten 3 other jobs since then . If u stay thr u wnt get another job cos d bank ll take all ur time. Some of my friends are still thr as contract staff since then, protesting wnt change anything, u are the only one dt can change things for yourself, dump diamond bank and move on with ur life. Nuff said already

    2. My question is this ' who is your employer?' Is it diamond bank or is the employment for contract staff outsourced?,, if tis outsourced, holding protest and causing a shut down of diamond bank branch won't get u any benefit but sack as they are not your employers nor do they pay ur salary.

  23. Hi Stella,
I suggest you place some sorta embargo on 'anonymous' posters (at least to an extent). People only have guts to say all sorts of things under the cloak of anonymity. I believe that everyone old enough to post a comment on a blog should be adult enough to take responsibility for EVERY thing they choose to say. I know there are some exceptions but it could foster some sort of sanity if you do. *methinks* #justsaying
    Thanks and Well done.

Lyk seriously Afraid is beginning to catch me, that's why I've been kinda mute since morning. Madam stella get your facts right, there is no contract staff on Diamond bank pay roll, rather the bank employed a company for contract service. so all these complains abt low salary or sacking isnt the bank's fault or doing . The contract staff should talk to their employer or resign. Meanwhile some of these people have no qualification are being paid 56k. haba make una fear God.

  31. Some people understand. Others don't have enough brains to. DB pays better than any other bank in Nigeria. The mgt led by Oga Alex is simply brilliant. Lends money without collaterals, supports SMEs and is socially responsible. If Nigeria was not a lawless country, why will people employed by a contractor disrupt the business of the contract employer. If there is dispute, it should be with the contractor who is their employer. I have no doubt that jealous competitors have a hand in this. I have not met that MD, but everyone says excellent things about him. I hear he is so decent that people just do the right things b/c he is there. Contract staff, if the kitchen is too hot, please get the hail out.

There should be no third-party employment, it is evil. The contract company is owned by family members or friends of the Bank. They enslave people delibrately by taking advantge of the lack of jobs in society. What fucking job are you doing as a staff that the contract staff cannot do? HND, OND etc contract abi? How many of the so called graduates that are full staff can even make a good English statement? Do not berate a man for staying to fight, he alone knows what he's fighting for. 35. Stella why dont u get ur facts right b4 u start posting things. Diamond bank did not employ this people. Let them show u their id cards. It has diamond bank colours cos they were deployed to the bank to work but the id also carries the name of their employer C & M Exchange Ltd. The firm the bank contracted to get them casual staff. So diamond bank pays
their employer who then pays them. If DB Plc pays d coy 100k per staff and the employer decides to pay them 56k how is that d banks fault. The y went abt it d wrong way. They shud have appealed to d bank to speak on their behalf to their employers instead of all these drama . All d bank did was return dem back to their employer. Is that wrong?
The bank sacked 59 people last week based on performance and attitude to work. I can name banks who in d last few months have sacked over 400 staff. Stella did u report it?
The bank promoted 678 staff on monday. Stella did u report it.
The bank has employed over 400 trainees in d last 1 year and still employing. Stella did u report it. Can a failing bank be employing and promoting.
