ReplyDeleteWomen have been victims in Nigeria for decades. They are either sexually abused, assaulted or harassed. So I applaud her bravery.
In Nigeria If their husbands died, they killed him. If their husbands are not successful, they are witches. If their husbands are impotent, people call them barren. If their husbands are promiscuous, they are asked to endure and bear the burden, even at the risk of contracting infectious/deadly diseases , without complaint but daren’t cheat back, unless they want to be isolated and banished out of the community.
Some are made to drink water from bathing their husbands’ corpses. Their husbands’ estates are taken away from them whether they died with or without a will.
Make it up as you go along because it is endlessly painful for Nigerian women. Every woman, old and young, educated and not educated, rich and poor should come out and stand for the objective truth regarding how women are treated in Nigeria today. Emphasis should be on objective truth.
Loud it! And the saddest part of it many women hold on to these toxic beliefs and perpetuate them.
