CHRONICLE OF A MARRIED MAN

My first daughter loves foreign languages. Her favourites (according to preference) Korean, Spanish and French.
I have told her to discard the Korean language . Who does she want to speak "Ju cha kim um ta ho kio" to?

She learnt the Korean language from all these movies, I have banned her from watching Korean movies already.

Spanish too was learnt from Spanish movies, animation movies especially. I think I prefer this one to the rest. it sounds "tusher" than the rest and easier to learn. It is also useful in most countries in the world. She speaks full sentences in Spanish.
Then French.
This one was learnt in school from when she was a baby till she graduated from primary school. Her school did French language extensively. Now in secondary school, she still does French as a subject and always comes top in class. She also speaks it at home with her younger ones.

I'm considering sending her for a short course in one foreign language after her secondary school education, before university since she will finish very young by God's grace (15yrs) and won't be able to enter the Federal university of my choice at that age.
So French or Spanish? which is more lucrative and marketable?
Forget about Korean biko, that one no follow for foreign language.

  1. That's good of her, I think French is more lucrative although she will need refresher courses as she grows so as not to forget it.

  3. The French and Spanish languages are good, but you must retract your ban on the Korean language because that language will be a huge plus for her if she can speak and write it fluently. You have to start thinking big because many people are already speaking and writing the French and Spanish languages but very few are good at the Korean language.

    1. Exactly. With globalisation and everything else a black person with unusual language skills is an asset o

  4. Lol.
French is more marketable in Nigeria as we are surrounded by French speaking countries and it is taught in most schools. She can also work at the French high commission or as an interpreter working for some key figures in government. They pay them in foreign currency in the high commission.
She can move to one of the good French speaking countries and live a better life there.

  6. Allow her to flow with anything her brain picks interest in . Ambassador of Nigeria to Korea, France, Spain etc in the making. (Just saying) Just allow her brain to do anything it picks interest in so long as they are not morally corrupting. I pity those parents whose kids pick interest in drawing at a young age of which that's the only thing the child knows how to do so effortlessly and you see the parents asking them if they didn't see their mates doing well in mathematics, and other good subjects. They don't know how much limitation such words of discouragement will cause to the child. You might say "what will the child do with drawing in future" You don't know, there are a lot of things one can achieve with such a talent. But the child the necessary materials that she/he will need to explore in every nook and cranny of that line of interest. Don't allow anybody to discourage the child, encourage them to believe in themselves.

I am writing this from my experience. I know I was very good in arts from childhood( Drawing and other aspects of art creativity)it's all these discouragement from many people that kept me unfulfilled professionally like this, but thank God I am going back to those things.

  9. Congrats. Your daughter has an ear for languages. Don't ban her from learning Korean o. They are a small country but they have a massive impact. Let her continue to learn it and tell her to add Mandarin. Later on she can add Arabic. With the way the world is going her skills will be much needed.

  10. Please STOP limiting your child from utilizing her natural talents.
You can pay for the French because she is already more advanced in it than the other languages she knows, but DO NOT discourage her from finding fulfillment. This may even affect other areas of her life.

  11. French first. Spanish later or on her own.

  12. Korean is also good and I love it but I prefer Spanish to French

  13. As a person who knows languages, I'd advise you send her to learn Korean.
Since, she's already great at French.
French and Spanish is overly saturated. Everywhere you look there's an African that speaks either.

Korean language is the future. See K-pop, Kdrama etc.
Why do you think Netflix has sunk millions in there outside or rather after the US market? The whole world's listening to and watching Korean entertainment.

How many Africans read, write, and speak Korean?

  14. Yes to Korean language, why the ban? She can learn all. Consider Mandarin too, that might even be the best.
