 The Ondo Anglican priest, Rev. Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and two children, who were abducted on Sunday, have been freed. Although the details of their release at the time of filing this report were sketchy, the kidnappers had earlier demanded a ransom of N75m.

 Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has lost his Chief of Staff, CoS Prince AbduKadir Mashe. The CoS passed on early in the morning of Saturday 28 December, 2024. In a statement, AbdulRazaq’s media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye said: “In total submission to the will of Allaah, we regret to announce the passing of the Chief of Staff to His Excellency, Prince AbdulKadir Mahe”.

 Former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of not telling Nigerians the true situation of the country and his administration. Speaking with BBC Hausa, Lamido said the administration prioritised propaganda rather than telling Nigerians the actual state of the nation unlike during the time PDP governed the country.

 Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday apologized to the government and people of Sokoto State over the killing of about 10 civilians in airstrike targeted at the Lakurawa terrorist group at Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities in Silame Local Government Area. The VP noted that it was one of those rare sad moments when innocent civilians were caught in crossfire in the ongoing efforts to rid the country of all forms of terror.

 The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, on Saturday announced maintenance exercises that will affect power supply in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. TCN said in a statement that its engineers would conduct planned maintenance exercises at two transmission substations between Saturday and Sunday.

 Two persons have been electrocuted during an attempt to steal solar streetlights at Ogobiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. A community source said on Saturday that their bodies were discovered in the morning within an area bordering the New Site of the state-owned Niger Delta University and Ogobiri roundabout.

The Police Command in Kwara State says it rescued 13 kidnap victims in a swift and coordinated operation in the state. The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said this in a statement on Saturday in Ilorin. According to Ejire-Adeyemi, the achievement demonstrates the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the state.

 At least three notorious bandits have been “neutralized in Dogon Dawa, Mairiga Local Government Area, LGA of Niger State, following a well-coordinated ambush by officers of the Department of State Service, DSS”. During the attack, several other bandits, according to sources, fled into the bushes with bullet wounds, while the DSS operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles.
