As we watch how this case between Legal Icon Afe Babalola SAN and Activist Lawyer Dele Farotimi plays out, let us read all the interesting imputs...This was written by Wale Ojo-Lanre Esq..

He writes
''The majority of Nigerians seem to exhibit a form of willful ignorance; otherwise, they would not naively support Dele Farotimi in his reckless ,brutal and brazen criminal defamatory , deliberate and calculated damaging of the person , personality ,image and the entire entity of Chief Afe Babalola and the Supreme Court.
It is deeply troubling that an individual, ostensibly trained in the law, would intentionally, and without any measure of circumspection, employ defamatory language and level malicious, unsubstantiated allegations against Chief Afe Babalola, an eminent legal luminary, and the apex institution of Nigeria's judiciary—the Supreme Court.
Far from stopping at mere verbal defamation, he escalated his actions by documenting, printing, publishing, and disseminating these spurious claims globally. In doing so, he not only sought to tarnish the image, reputation, and integrity of Chief Afe Babalola but also aimed to diminish the dignity and standing of notable, eminent jurists of the Supreme Court, reducing their contributions to the judiciary to global ridicule.
That some individuals would laud such actions as commendable is as perplexing as it is disheartening. This perspective reveals a troubling deficiency in their understanding of the principles of justice, the rule of law, and basic decency.
Furthermore, the outrage expressed by certain quarters over Chief Afe Babalola’s decision to seek redress—not through extrajudicial means but through the established judicial process—reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of his inherent and constitutional right to seek remedy under the law. Such criticism is not only unjustified but also indicative of a mindset that undermines the very tenets of justice and due process.
It is rather sad . The oppressive tendency of ignoramus group.
Very sad
Let Afe Babalola Breathe .

Always them!
ReplyDeleteEka Joy,
DeletePlease read again!!! And while at it, be bold to state who "them" are.
Mr Farotimi is a man I listen to and enjoy his criticisms, but as I have shared in different discussions, "he/she" who alleges must prove.
You mean the appeal court judges.
DeleteDele wrote a book based on his personal experience. Why not give him opportunity to prove what has been alleged in the book? Why all the backyard moves? + magistrate over rule high court judgment on bail.
DeleteIn as much as i beg to differ, i agree with Lanre Esq about this write up.
ReplyDeleteFarotimi went too extreme, its not just about defamation. It's a documented defamation in form of a book. Making it a lifelong defamation and tarnish to the legal luminary
The intent was meant to circulate as many copies in print as possible and i wouldn't blame Chief Afe suing him in return.
The judicial system may or not be corrupt, but the wielding power at the top makes it answerable to the GOVT and there can never be judicial transparency.
He should let Chief Afe breathe at his old age.
I wish him success in the sales of his self-acclaimed book.
I will still follow Peter Obi to go and beg on his behalf, if invited.
To err is human!
I wish that those who comment on this highly celebrated case have the slightest idea what it's all about before giving an opinion but like them I too have been too busy with my life to read it up. So I'm going to do the right thing and say nothing .😜😂🙈
ReplyDeleteI have read the case. In my considered opinion, there was no clerical error in the judgment of the Supreme Court. The judgment cited a gazetted agreement of Lagos State Government and Eletu family where the latter agreed to retain only 10 hectares. Now, assuming the Supreme Court was wrong in its final conclusion, can it entertain any application to review or vary that decision? The law is trite that it cannot. But in this case, it did. You may wish to recall the Imo State gubernatorial case where the same scenario was going to play out and the attendant heavy cost imposed on the old man.
DeleteI don't even get it ,many wanted a just and equitable society yet they allow mob rule against rule of law ;the questions to be answered are,was the defamation legal ,civil or criminal and the role of police in all these ;but seeing many commentaries especially from majority of the internet court judges ,Duro was an hero and afe was the thief Even if no court pronouncement on the case .One day Nigeria may descent into anarchy if we allow emotion and jealousy with hatred and" the rich is responsible for the poor syndrome" to prevail
ReplyDeleteThat is recipe for Anarchy which won't help his poor followers also
ReplyDeleteAn ESQ indeed encouraging a violation of human rights and 'abduction' of a learned colleague.... Okay let's continue burying our heads in the sand...
ReplyDelete'they came for the Jews, I kept quiet, they came for revolutionaries, I kept quiet now they came for me and there was no one to speak for me'...
Maintain this energy when it comes to home...Hens will come to roost soon...
Too many words to say nothing. Babalola's name features very prominently in leaked wikileaks diplomatic cables about bribing court of appeals judges at the behest of obasanjo. . I don't care about Dele one way or another. But he is not far from the truth.
ReplyDeleteGo amd present wikileaks in court as your evidence for the defamation.
DeleteEven the Bible talks about applying wisdom but you guys think it's all about online noise.
Activism might work in politics but in.law, you will need to prove every allegation you make
You people told us POs name on the Pandora list meant nothing, but you now want to expand Chief Babalola's name allegedly on WikiLeaks. Remind me what hypocrisy means
DeleteThe guy Dele needs to be taught a lesson. He crossed the line on this one and like this write up explains, majority of the people shouting oppression up and down do not know anything about the case.
ReplyDeleteAnd how it is being handled is the best way right? Once you don't like someone or his personality, once injustice is done, then it is fine by you?...For your information, this is not the way to go...Be careful what you support and allow; and yes it is oppression....
DeleteIt is well

Thank you, momma. 😍
APC has seen your post.
ReplyDeleteI pity that man called Mr Dele.
ReplyDeleteThis case transcends beyond the judiciary. It speaks on how ‘we the people’ will react when we are in a position of power and authority. The eminent SAN arresting a colleague in a manner reminiscent of the Abacha days leaves much to be desired, actually it’s an abduction because I would not call that an arrest. Last year, I was opportune to be in Paris where the former NBA president and former Edo state gubernatorial candidate under the Labour Party Olumide Akpata gave a speech at the International Bar Association, that day, it dawned on me that the country’s Judiciary, the last hope of the common, is for sale to the highest bidder, and I say this with all intent and purpose, which I believe was what made our former president, Muhammadu Buhari, to have issues with justices of the Supreme Court during his tenure. I will want the learned jurist, to tread carefully on this matter so as not to affect his legacy, as we Yorubas use to say, if a mosquito perches on your blokos; reminds me of uncle Bolaji blokos wherever he is, lol 😂; you tread carefully in removing it so as not to damage your “legacy”.
ReplyDeleteThis is the shock the judiciary needs in order to have a total reset. The impunity became so glaring. You have judges giving different judgement on same issue in different courts! No matter how this case goes, the judiciary now wears a Big question mark.
ReplyDeleteLet me kuku not say my mind before the giveaway will pass me by. SDK! Ogbonge blogger! Mama carry go! This Dele man is a nuisance. The best investigative journalist cum blogger.
