The Yoruba heritage is ALIVE in Brazil.
As is told,Many centuries ago,the image of Oduduwa appeared to the Afro-Brazilians to conquer the slave masters in very strange and mysterious ways and nobody could see the image fighting them. Ever since they named the statue Zombie who came to rescue them from slavery.
Millions of them are super excited to see the Occupier of the throne of Oduduwa in their midst with other descendant kings of Oduduwa lineage.
The statue is located right in the midst of one of the busiest highways where they normally host Cbana, the biggest carnival in the world hosted every February ...
I remember when I said here that there are Yorubas in Brazil. One ikeregbe jabberwocky crawled under my comment to claim otherwise. When you don't know something, shut your mouth and listen. Elenu gbaku gbaku. Mtsheww
ReplyDeleteSame in Cuba too, there's Yoruba community there.
DeleteSome people don't know anything, they argue instead of them to listen and learn.
E ro ra!!!😁😁😁. Kilode!
DeleteThere are even some core Lagosians here that are of Brazilian descent. There was one in my school, the Egerton-shnygle's, the Sawyers,Odwyers.
DeleteI laugh when some people say Lagos is no man's land. People come from Lagos Island, Epe, ikorodu, badagry etc. Then we have those of Brazilian/Cuban descent. Once you hear an English surname and you are from Lagos state they are usually of brazilian/Cuban descent.
People shld know their history before talking.
The Vera cruz's as well
DeleteBeds and Roses, actually wrong, it’s Portuguese last names such as Da Silva, De Souza’s, Pinheiro and others. They are Popo Agudah.
DeleteEnglish last names are mostly Saros or ppl who came from Caribbean islands in the early 1900s, such as The Adeferasins maternal family.
Salvadore, DA costa, Doregos etc. The Nigerians who returned to Nigeria after the slave trade brought the brazilian culture back with them which is being celebrated till today. Eg Fanti carnival and eating of frijon on good Friday.
DeleteWell I'm sure about the Egerton-shyngle and odwyer because na so the owners of the names tell us from school. Thanks for the info
DeleteThank you my good people. It's lovely to see that some people still know their history.
DeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteProudly yoruba
ReplyDeleteVery nice trip for the Ooni. The Brazilian adherents to African spiritual practices must be overjoyed to have their 'pope' in their midst. I wish the writer whos ent Stella the info mentioned which city in Brazil the statue is located, and it's June 14th still, it's not yesterday yet. Anyhow, may the people of Brazil receive spiritual food by his presence. I hope he has been made aware of the fight that is going on against African spiritual practises in Brazil, and how some groups believe that African spirituality should be wiped out. Also, does the Ooni know the level of racism that the average black Brazilian is up against daily, I hope he will address these issues with the Brazilians and take the time to impart some words of wisdom and hope.
ReplyDeleteEmi omo Yoruba. Omo Lisabi 😊
