Buhari Declares Mondays And Wednesdays As ‘Made- In-Nigeria Dress’ Day

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Mondays and Wednesdays every week, as Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days across the country.

The declaration was contained in a letter dated 4th April, 2017, addressed to the Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, through the Federal Ministry of Information & Culture.

The letter reads in part: “The Federal Executive Council (FEC), at its meeting of Wednesday, 1st February, 2017, has approved the adoption of Mondays and Wednesdays of every week as Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days as part of measures to uplift the nation’s culture and promote Made-in-Nigeria textile products”.

Buhari further directed that a presentation on the Made-in-Nigeria Campaign be made to the National Economic Council to secure the buy-in of State Governments.

As a follow-up to the letter, the Minister of Information & Culture, Lai Mohammed, asked the Management of NICO to provide a comprehensive proposal on how to effectively implement the policy in a manner that would encourage all Nigerians to conveniently observe the Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days.

Reacting to the Government’s approval for Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days, the Executive Secretary of NICO, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, stated that for him, it was one major breakthrough so far recorded by his administration in the Institute.

  8. Declaring something and it being feasible are two different things. Those living below a dollar a day can't afford made in Nigeria cloths. Second hand clothes are more affordable. This government keeps shouting "made in Nigeria" up and down but at the slightest opportunity, they fly abroad to sort themselves. Bubu and co should swerve abeg

    1. How did he impose it on us? It is not a forceful thing. It is optional but should be acknowledged by those who see fit. Besides, this is another way of solving one of our problems. By buying from within, enriching us instead of the outside market. At least, let us make our criticisms with deep thought and reflection. There is wisdom in deep thought.

  25. As much as I don't support this, I want to say it isn't only Ankara that is made in Nigeria. Most are not even made in Nigeria. I've made several shirts from fabrics made in Nigeria that I had to give out cos I over wore them without them getting wornout. My issue with this is that the clothes on our backs are not the most urgent of problems facing us. BTW, we can use Ankara to sew lovely formal attires.

  26. Did he put our uniformed men into consideration when he made this declaration? Pa Vuhari this is not necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So long as it's not enforced,Not a bad idea.
A lot of people were already wearing native attires on Fridays was anyway.

  28. Buhari don dey craze. It is unconstitutional to dictate dressing to citizens. He that is wearing one Morocco caftan taking London treatment
