Nigerian Men Do Not Want A Financially Handicapped Wife!

Please focus on the message and not the Messenger....

The Reality of what's going on is that, gone are the days when men marry a woman who has no work and ask her to stay put and tend to the house whilst he works...In these times,if you do not have a job,he will take you home (to the bedroom) but not to Mama......

  1. The first question they ask is ' where do you work?'

    6. So the woman manages the home, children and marriage and still works to contribute. The man only contribute half and the wife also does half. That makes the woman a slave And the man go still call the shots even unto cheating.! Hmm modern day slavery!

    7. Lol, that's cos men of today are lazy kind of, they don't mind women being the bread winner. They even want already made women more than women wanting already made men.

some of the men still marry 'jobless' ladies and help them get a job or open a business for them.

But for the most part, it goes both ways in today's world, ladies choro loaded men, and that is what is killing us ladies too. We don't want to build with the men, we want them rich, as if we were there when they were struggling. That's actually one of the reason they treat us like trash when they find out we are in for the money

    8. Not true. Before I agreed to date boo I told him I wanted a job before I wld settle down, Nna mehn he quickly submited my CV to his company. Im presently seeking employment and boo keeps telling me to relax abt it. He calls me his Oriaku and gives me all I need. He really doesnt care if I work or not, he even prefers I continue schooling and just let him meet my folks officially. Yes, some guys are dreamy like dis oo. So ladies stop saying all men are dogs.

  4. It depends.......many abusers want one to control.
However a lot want financially empowered women but many have wrong reasons for one. Look around, a lot of men want sugar-mummies, a steady maga that would handover their accounts and assets to them. Wonder why a lot of matured and rich single ladies are hounded........many a times by men. A lot of them brothers want to get lucky, rip them off. See how they yell. I want to make my money, and marry at least my equal.

Everyone wants the good life. If you arnt born into it or work for it then you marry for it.

People should look for enterpriaing wife that will double whatever you hive her or set her up with and no squander it.
I am more of a woman running a business so she has time not really work. That way she can cater to me and the kids.

  8. It's mostly Nigerian broke men.
Some rich men don't even mind, they will even be the one to tell their wives to stay at home.
But as a woman it's wise to have your own money so when he starts misbehaving you won't even feel it.

    1. Not necessarily the broke men..

Back in the University, I had a boyfriend who wouldn't marry any girl that wasn't working. He was very well to do, lived well, and took very good care of my needs in school, very generous but wasn't going to marry a girl who wasn't working..

He was ready to wait for me to finish school, serve and then get married but his temper did not allow me stay with him. He never abused me emotionally, physically or verbally but I could see it was something that was going to happen..

And before I forget, all his friends had that mentality. Infact it was just him among his friends dating a student..

He got married 2 yrs ago and true to his word he married a working class girl

    4. This right here is the main issue I am having with my fiance right now. He doesn't want me to work a day. He's bn begging for me to be a stay at home wife, that he would make me comfortable bla bla...but I know I belong to the corporate world. Infact,I didn't know his kind of specie still exists in Nigeria. His offer is tempting but I want to work. So help me God.

      Delete
  9. I was discussing this with my friend just yesterday.

The General's era,I think, was the last to marry non-working ladies.
That's not to say loads of men still don't marry non-working women. But it's not just very popular. Hasn't bn in the past few years.

These days, especially with Nigerian men.resident here,u try introducing a lady to a guy and the first thing they ask u the "Introducer" is "Where does she stay and what does she do?"

And it's not just them, their Naija brothers abroad too want financially independent women.

And of course we know the No 1 reason for this. Times are hard in Naija so some men can't do it all alone. Others too, don't just want a stay-at-home wife. Its not necessarily about the money aspect. While some want you to stay to tend to the kids first. You can now fly when the kids are a bit grown. Lol

But basically, the harsh economy has forced many people's hands.

    1. Well,it's only a lazy broke ass that ask such question about a girl...

    2. I see no reason why a woman in this day and age will not be working or at least doing something even if it is from the comfort of her home e.g baking.

Times are evolving and for the sake of the kids, one can take a career break but I am definitely against a woman being idle no matter how rich her husband is.

Even the likes of Caroline, Mrs Otedola have something going on for them.

Funny enough, those who have very nice working class wife that contribute very much financially for the upkeep of the home just dont appreciate them, and are either busy being jealous of them,or abusing them physically/verbally.

I pay the bills..rent o, food, light, clothes, shoes, home appliance, fuel, transport, diaper, baby food including giving him some pocket money, yet he is always quick to abuse me verbally. It is so draining. Can't afford any good thing for myself cos I spend every penny at home. Imagine me saving every kobo of my last salary to make up the rent, I ran into a friend that sells underwear and I bought myself 2 pairs or pants cos I really needed it yet i felt so guilty spending money on myself when there is rent to be paid that I hid the pants in my wardrobe but my heart broke when hubby was given some money last week by his friend, you will think the first thing he should do is to save it for rent or buy food stuffs as our kitchen is bone dry. Oga went to buy 2 nice pairs of shoes for himself. I saw it and went ballistic on him. Nonsense human being. #ijeuwam

  26. I agree...I mean it's common sense. If you love your man, why make him bear an unnecessary burden, when you both can carry it? Same with not wanting men who cannot do at least certain domestic chores. She has to work? Yes! He has to join in taking care of the house domestically? Yes! Why? You both are adults, responsible for yourselves, your families and each other. For humanity to not only grow but become better, each sex must be capable in most things to a certain degree.

  33. When my mum is not a burden to my father, then I would now grow up to emulate who now? That is why I don't even make friends with lazy girls, who have little or no zeal, I love hard working girls, if no job find something to to, learn a trade, acquire a skill, don't just sit there looking for men to give you 10k,20k and blaming relatives for abandoning you.
A man is the head of the house but a woman as the neck should provide akara at least to support the bread winner.

Originally a man should take care of everything bc when it comes to decision making your see them claiming right they are the head and bla, bla,but when is time for money they won't remember that they are the head again.
But with the way the economy is and all, I advise all women to better find something doing and also gain some respect from your man.

    2. This reminds me of someone, husband said don't work and she agreed to take care of the kids.

If she needs anything she has to write a list, the man will scrutinise the list, review, complain and then cut slash the list to something really ridiculous.

      Meanwhile, dude has money.
Nobody told before she dusted her certificate and started working.

  35. SO TRUE. I pray ladies empower themselves. It's not enough to be beautiful and be able to do house chores. What do you bring to the table? Do you have a handiwork? If you lost that office job today, would you still proudly stand and bring your 2kobo to the table? There is a confidence that comes with being self sufficient and not waiting for a man to give you what you need.

    1. So that they can control them financially. When a man can control you financially, that's the end of your life. Even when he is abusing you, you can't step out. You can't run for help. You can't leave him. You will keep tolerating all his bullshit because you have nothing on your own. And maybe the little savings you have wouldn't even take you far..

  42. Nice topic, so I ask a question, where should a woman's money be useful or needed in marriage and taking care of the family. Matured response please.

    ReplyDelete
  43. But Toolz... you are the breadwinner in your home. Just as Toke was also the bread winner.

So we are meant to be asking you, how does it feel to feed your husband and pay the bills?

  44. Mama Ori Oke, be guided indeed.... You just got married.. Don't speak too soon o!

  45. Internet will wreck marriages o!
Do not compare your own situation with other people. Men have different reasons to marry.
Some are from poor homes looking for a woman to uplift their family
Some are rich and just need that beautiful companion who they can show off at parties. They don't care if she can cook or clean (Example, my aunt).
Some are financially ok, but they want the woman to stay home during the early formative period of their children's lives.
Some need you to work to augment what they bring home.
Some want you to work so that you can buy your Brazillian hair and help your family. They don't ask how much you earn as long as you don't disturb them.
Some are gold-diggers looking for someone to feed them.
Some don't want you to work because they need to subdue you.
    Face your own marriage!

  51. I have always believed in a working class lady, because it's not everything u ask a man money for eg, u can support ur parents and siblings without having to ask him, sometimes buy urself good clothes n shoes without waiting on him. May be becos I have always bin independent minded as such I can't depend or wait for a man to give me. When a woman has her own money she empowers herself and has bragging right.

  53. i don't have a problem with working or wanting to marry someone that works... but when you just meet me and the first question you're asking is where i work or how much the coy pays its staff is a no no for me... Men these days have become the gold digger while women have become the hustlers... In fact its rude to talk about money at all except you are giving me as a gift or offering to pay a bill for me... its also rude asking how much i buy my shoes, hand bags or hair and saying ÿou be big girl oh"... if you want to buy it as a gift, go to the shop and ask for the price... i'm tired of all these leeches these days..

Is your man jobless that u are d one doing all this??? You are trying, Lord is ur strength.
You better buy ursellf nice things, and stop giving that man pocket money. And he actually opens his hand to collect it.
In my life I have never given men shi shi. Gift I give, boy you a shirt or 2 if I see smthn nice if I go out. Little things like dat.
