Angel Blaze Replies Blog Visitor's Mentoring Questions -Part 1

These questions were sent in by blog visitors needing career path and business ideas mentoring and Angel blaze tries to be a super man by replying and giving the best advise he knows....you are free to add your bit to each question as well cos ''two heads are better than one''

Angel Blaze says....

''Stella

I am going to try and do this in batches, didn't expect eleven questions at once. Anyway here goes''......LOL

She says ''I am an intelligent lady thus it comes as a shock to me that I seem lost when it comes to what to do next or where to channel my career.I studied Marketing and made 2.1. (My first choice was Economics but my brother who registered my jamb made the mistake ).Due to the fact that I graduated as the best student of my set, I was offered an opportunity to work as a lecturer should I decide to come back to same school for an M.sc in same course. Marketing is an eclectic field of study but it is basically seen as SALES in our country so I do not wish to pursue it further.

Blaze Answers - I think the first challenge is on you. Marketing is a wide field and has many critical sub-sets. However one fact you must quickly recognize is that if you fail to profile yourself, people tag and batch you with the ordinary / known.

Assuming marketing is just sales in Nigeria is a wrong notion. To start with, corporate communications, branding, research are all elements of marketing but no one will simply offer you those chances until you show the innate skill for them.

My advise - profile yourself to define where your core skill lies; identify ways of enhancing your skills through online training; use your marketing background to create unique ways of pushing your bank and trial them; avoid getting into a funk and feeling like a victim.

See the marketing role as a door opener and use it as a stepping stone to your real/preferred area of interest.

He says ''Good day sir, how do one cope when he/she finds out that he has passion for two things at a time, you are studying the course (one passion) and then you feel like switching over to the other passionate field. how can i curtail this. Thanks.

Blaze answers - why do you want to curtail the urge? Are the fields complimentary or opposite? Dare to allow yourself explore but be great at everything you try! It takes effort and commitment but it's achievable. Personally I have had four distinct careers and left each of my own volition. I know many people who studied one thing but now excel in another so don't choke yourself yet.

Tina says Dear Angel Blaze,
Not sure what business you do but I know you're successful. I work for the EMEA division of DHL in HR but would like to be my own boss too (hence the need to start a small business)
My question is:
What is your competitive advantage and  how does one build a successful global brand?
Many thanks

Blaze answers - Tina, thanks for the compliment. Success contrary to what people think is firstly an attitude. It's grounded in self-belief and a stubborn readiness to go where your idea takes you!

The first step is to identify what you are good at or have a passion for, then find the opportunity to trial your ideas out. Building a global brand requires a success story or product and a bit of showmanship.

Also be ready for people to doubt and even laugh at you. Above all, know now that it is a lonely path until you actually succeed, don't expect people to "get it" that will only happen when they can "see it".

Tessy Says Angel Blaze, Good day, my name is Tessy ,i am in my early 20s, I have this huge dream of having my own orphanage home,  I know it's a big task ahead of me and am bent on not giving up  my dreams no matter how rough the road looks. I need advice on steps to make cos I really want to start planning ahead.
Thanks and I hope to read from you soon.
God bless you and Big sis Stella.

Blaze answers - Tessy, this is a very laudable idea and at your age heart warming. To prepare yourself, start by volunteering with an existing orphanage to learn what is involved; then acquire the basic skills needed to manage such an enterprise. Money only follows successful or tested ideas. That means you must be ready to start small and then find people willing to buy into your passion to grow bigger.

TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW..If you have any more questions for Angel blaze, please send them to busybodycorrecter to collate at sdkblogaffairs@gmail.com

    You are indeed an angel.

Poster that is conflicted Abt two passions... if they are not related in anyway, will advice you to choose and concentraate on one.
Consider other factors like which passion is more lucrative and how viable is it in ur country of stay.

These days, you have to merge passion with profitability

  37. 1st poster- what do you really have passion for? You need to ask yourself and from past experiences you had, explore what you know you really good at...also remember that a university degree simply means one thing, which is that you learned and understand some topics/skillsets, applied it, excelled in exams/tests and possibly will use it to work.. Since your cognition can successfully process and pass these topics, it means one thing, which is that you can always reapply yourself to learn new and unknown skillsets and be successful at it... So long story short, don't limit yourself to what you have degrees in... Learn and be willing to explore new knowledge which will eventually make you some real money... Doing this might even suddenly enlighten you in discovering what you have passion for...
2nd poster- chose one out of the two passions you have to give undivided attention to. During your leisure time, learn more and explore your options on the 2nd passion. Should in case first one don't pan out, you can try to use your second passion to possibly earn a living...I.e i know physicians who are in rock bands and they r pretty successful at both
Tina- you are on the right path n what I meant by this is that you didn't jump in and try to start your own business without working for somebody/organization first, learn as much as you can from your current job/position. Go above and beyond is mastering the ropes and how top management(directors, ceos, supervisors) around you go about their tasks/meetings. This way you'd have a feel of how it is to be in control. The world is a global village now so utilize Google n read more and more. Start writing your business plans with reasonable seen and unseen obstacles you might encounter, try to come up with solutions for these obstacles. Touch all basis that needs to be touched and try as much as possible to plan for everything. Lastly be optimistic and believe in yourself and your dreams... Also be prepared to learn from initial setbacks/failures. In the end you'd stay a winner for If you are successful, you'd bask in the glory of success and if you fail, you'd learn some valuable unforgettable lessons...
Tessy- what exactly is your goal? To help the needy or to make money? Whichever it is, it's a noble cause and God will bless you for the initiative. But know that depending on the country you live in, it might be difficult to get the needed licenses and permits, I'm sure you are ready for the challenges that might pop up. Do your research, plan out how the orphanage will operate on day to day basis, real estate where it'll be located and all. Lots of foreign grants/funds you can apply for and I believe you'd get based on how well your package/presentation is. It boils down to how well your plans are. If it's money you are interested in making, it might be a while before your investments starts yielding profits so hold on steadfast, it might be a bumpy ride but there's surely light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck..

  40. Dear Angel Blaze,

You just finally won my respect and admiration.Sound response I must say sir...
I had always assumed that Angel Blaze was just some 'money miss road' business man or politician with a few extra cash to throw around but clearly, these answers prove the contrary. These are clearly answers from a sound mind with an above average IQ and for the first time, I must say I am truly impressed... Impressed not with the monies you has been giving out on this blog (because any one with a few extra nairas could do same) but rather impressed by the sound advise you have just given. My personal policy has always been "teach me to fish, do not buy me fish..." but clearly, the majority of people on this blog do not share same policy as evidenced by the hustle for freebies on this blog, sometimes even by people that clearly can afford the stuff they beg for. As a young lady that had to fry chinchin and other pastries to see herself through university and law school, I have always had this "do it yourself', self reliant attitude that just leaves me embarrassed when i see my fellow youths begging for freebies and stuff supposedly to see themselves through school. Where is that self reliant spirit that Nigerians used to be known for? Where is that 'can do' attitude that established our previous generations? I must say our generation feel so entitled... We expect everything to be handed to us on a platter rather that struggling to get things done ourselves. Very few youths now believe in dignity of labour, very few people are willing to get their hands dirty to earn a few extra bucks. Lots of youths coming up here to beg for school fees could do a little something by the side to see their way through school, but because they feel so entitled, it is much easier to come on this blog and tell some sob story and then drop an account number and sit back waiting for the money to come rolling in. You, Angel Blaze have catered to this category of youths for too long... Finally it is a relief to see you take out time to cater to the other caliber of people that have chosen not to be charity cases, those that have decided that rather than ask you for fish, they'd rather you taught them how to fish. Dont expect too many people to queue up for this particular category sir, but if you ask me, these are the ones you should concentrate your energy on because they are seeds, not fruits. The fruits are eaten immediately, but the seeds germinate and bring more fruits. These ones are worthwhile investments...
It is for these ones that i wish to thank you sir. Thank you for investing your time and thoughts on people you have never even met and to whom you ordinarily owe no obligation. You have just sown a seed that will in later years speak not just for you, but for your future generations yet unborn.
Forgive my somewhat lengthy text sir, I get carried away sometimes. lol

  44. Thanks for the responses Blaze.

    My quota :

    1st.
Enhancing your skills online isn't enough.
There's greater sense and perfection ‎in practicalism. And this you can scantly attain in that preference.
I like the idea of you pursuing an MSC in the same course. Accept the offer if you haven't done so. I must tell you, it's a wise idea because the school isn't just interested in you because you are good or because of your grade, but, because they believe they can develope you.  With that achieved, you are close to being perfect.
Let me also tell you this, the best you can ever attain in a specific field is to integrate sedum. It shows how much understanding you have in such field. Stop degrading  yourself or your profession because of what your countrymen and women think...

    2nd
My dear, you cannot kill two birds with a stone. Understand that. It isn't just a myth.
Hold on, passion for two things you said. When it comes to topic like this one, the individual involved is always very confused. But I like the fact that you pick one already. Just go ahead and finish with the one you are studying. In like cases, the two can be managed, I encourage you to take the  one you are studying now very seriously. Starting off another thing when you haven't  seen the end of the first is very condensing. ‎Especially when money is involved.
Like I said before, be serious with the 'current' one. When this one reaches it's peak, you can then venture into the other one.

    3rd.
Dear Tina, when it comes to competitive advantages, the business you intend to  venture into will give you a better understanding of what to do. Nowadays, it is very rear to start a business that haven't been in existence.
Try to picture the "mighty names" in the same line of business (this doesn't make you a copycat) and build upon their last floor. This I mean; quality of service, mode of service, etc.
Talking about Global Brand, ‎you have it already at the tip of your finger. The internet. Whatever your build, take it global with the internet. If it is not accepted, improve on it. And so on.

    4th
Tessy, you heard it all from Blaze, experience is the best teacher. ‎
