Silence Is Golden......Unless You Have Kids!

I had to make this a post because it just hit me that until you become a parent, you will never understand the difference between silence is golden when you do not have kids and dangerous when you have kids...lol

Kids can drive one CRAZY....so whenever we mothers get time off from their stress, its like heaven!

Once i notice my boys are silent in the house,i begin to scream and ask them where they are,if i hear their voices downstairs,i jump off and run to them......jump off from experience oh.

That was how last year, there was total peace in the house, there was no fighting or arguing between them and i thought all was well...only for me to go and check up on them and one was in the bathroom shaving....he figured since there was no hair on his face,he should shave his head!
he had cut a third mainland bridge on his curly thick mass and i let out a loud scream and he almost fainted from shock.

If i begin to count how many 'silent is not golden' moments that has shocked me ennnnnnh......

Do you have a 'Silence is not golden moment?

Even last night i was disturbed by the silence only to smallie munching away on packaging for a new stool! That on can't even be left alone for a SECOND cos everything goes in his mouth. Phone chargers, jewellery and a peculiar deference for paper. Kids!!!

My 4yr old is a huge troublemaker in the house! So one day like that he slept very late in the day and woke up by 8pm. He refused sleeping again, so everyone went to sleep except the both of us!

I got tired so I forced him to sleep, he pretended as if he was sleeping. So as a guy woman I was happy as I tiptoed out of the room!

In the middle of the night by 2am my 2yr old son came into my room crying saying...mummy my eyes! I woke up to find him covered in relaxer from head and all over his face! I screamed ehn and the 4yr old came out of his hiding with relaxer all over his face and body too!

I didn't know what do to so I gave them thorough early morning cold bath as punishment! I later found out the eldest woke his brother up and took him to the parlour and started designing their body with relaxer kai! When they went to school the teachers were screaming asking why i permed their hair lol

The good thing that came out of that experience is that their hair was so fine and curly ehn. I just took them to barbershop to get a galaxy hair style! Now am extra extra careful with them!

    I have plenty moments oh,
    But lemme share just 2
That was how my 4year old was so quiet while I was busy dimokokoing ( sdkb) away...
And then I felt everywher was damn quiet. My older child was glued to the teevee watching cartoon but wwhere is the second.
I ran through the rooms looking for her then I found her...
All covered in methylated rob. She looked so greased and was battling to open her eyes.
She looked a jelly baby. I freaked out but burst into laughter before cleaning her up. She slept for 3 straight hours afterwards.
    Lmao.

    Another incident
    The quiet was unsusal.
So I tiptoed and found her wearing my bra. And looking at herself at the mirror saying..." i have breast like mummy"

  19. I'm a new mom so silence is platinum for me. Infact I'm commenting while trying to hide the light from my phone before my oga at the top awakens.
I can relate to this post though due to a wide age gap with my kid bro. When we were much younger my mom came home one evening feeling stressed and sent us to go buy a bottle of chilled Gulder (wonder if they still make that beer?). Anyway she kept it in her room and sorted us out (as per dinner, house chores etc) . After a while she noticed my bro was missing cos we were all downstairs. On climbing up to the master bedroom she saw him sprawled on her bed in a deep sleep. She tried waking him up to go to his room(we liked chilling in their room because of the AC so she didn't think much of it) My bro refused to wake up. That's when she noticed the bottle of Gulder was almost empty. Anyway she helped cure his hangover the next day with her koboko.

I went to their room she wasn't there then I went to the parlour and almost fainted, she had turned on the tap in the sink at the dinning and my whole parlour was FLOODED. I stood for five secs in shock before I could get round to switching the tap off. I beat them till I was red in the face, and I started the questioning, followed by the lecture of why what they did was wrong. They didn't understand what they were doing but thot lieing on top of each other was ok. Whenever there is unusual quietness ,my own race passes usain bolt.

  40. Happy new week Aunty Stella of life, hope you're all recovered now.

On the topic, I don't have my own kids yet but I am around children all the time. My nephews and nieces and my friends' babies, I always babysit thus I've experienced most things parents do.

Kids are amazing but sometimes ehhn...........there was this day I was with my toddler nephew. At some point I had to go into the room to get something from my purse. when I had gotten what I sought, I left the bag on the bed and made sure little mister followed me out because he tagged along. I was engrossed with an assignment but after a while I realized that he was not there anymore because he asks me questions intermittently. I called out to him and his baby voice answered me from the room. I went to him and what did I behold? My reading glasses that cost me 67k to acquire was dangling from his baby fingers. He said " aunt Dawn, it broke and I wanted to fix it". He had taken the case out of my bag, broken it and was trying to fix it. If it was an adult, I would have done the person some kin things but I love this baby to bits. I cried a bit and he started to cry too so I just carried him and gave him a kiss and told him it was okay and I would fix it myself.

I've got other stories too but na dis wan pain me pass.

    Dawn

When my sister got upstairs she saw some black buttons from afar, wondering what it was she moved closer, lo and behold my nephew had removed ALL the buttons from her new laptop. And to think my sister gave him ice cream when he came downstairs, lol

  59. Oh my days! I have laughed so much this morning. Silence golden ke? WHOSAI! My 2 daughters, then, age 4 and 3 were in the room, while I was in the kitchen.cooking with my son on my back. I then realized the girls were awfully quiet, than usual. So I went into the room.

SHIOR!!! Wetin I see! The eldest was putting the comb inside the nose of her sister. I shouted and grabbed the comb. That was when I saw what she was using it for; To remove a hair bead embedded inside her nose!!! The bead has gone deep as she tried to remove it. I also tried, but to all avail. Immediately, I rushed her to the hospital, called my hubby. We were at the hospital from 5:30pm to 9 pm! The doctors had to inject her to sleep, because she was struggling with them whenever they tried to remove it. The doctors told us that if it gets worst, she will be operated and it will be at LUTH!! It took a long while for the drug to take effect, in fact the doctor had to give her more than the expected dosage for her age because she still dey shine her eyes well!! Eventually, it was removed stained with blood. They charged us ehen!! She slept over 24 hours straight! And could barely stand on her feet,, she didn't go to school for 2 days! I threw out all the orishirishi fancy hair beads in my home. How did she get hold of that single bead? From her sister hair o! Ahahaha... She will soon be 12 by May, and sometimes I remind her what she put us through.
    Nitty.

  61. My baby has this habit of singing "praising the lord" every time she has done something mischievous and the worst part she will come out clapping and singing that song. One of this days my bestie visited and that's how I got carried away with gist, everywhere became quiet and the next thing I started looking for Dubem. We looked everywhere only to find her in the store and she had managed to open a box with 30caprisonnes on it, drank about 20 of them and disposed the packets in different locations and rooms upstairs so I won't find them. I caught her drinking one and I shouted "Dubem!" The next thing she runs out singing "praising the lord" and that's when I knee kasala don burst...We spent the next 45mins fishing out different caprisonne packets from her disposal site and the next 3 days treating her for a runny stomach. Shes 6 now and has twin brothers and she has never drank another packet of caprisonne afterwards

Since we already know this, we lock the main switch that allows water flow through the tap in all the places she can reach easily.

This day,we couldn't find her and seeing that access to water had been blocked in other bathrooms, she wasn't there. No one thought to check her in the guest toilet. When we eventually did, this girl had both legs deep in the water closest, splashing the water all over her body, infact im sure she must have drank some.Practically feeling like someone in a bath tub.
Her mum wanted to faint..she just weak!!
She probably figured that was d only place she could get water and ooh boy, did she have a field day before we found her.

  64. Silence is definitely not golden anymore o 4 me ever since my son started crawling and walking. I av so many moments, was it when he dipped his hands in toilet or when he poured a whole sachet of water on the floor, when he was fighting with the detergent plastic or when he scooping custard powder on his head. Too many moments.

Silence is golden only when he's asleep as he's right now.

LMAO @ third mainland bridge.... Children are Ehn? OK.... Recently, my dad was hospitalized, mum was with him permanently and they left the car for me o do the running around (house hospital-pharmacy), I had taken breakfast to mum in d morning as dad was on life-support and couldn't eat. Then, mum asked me to go home and rest since stress was written all over me. She gave me 500naira to buy fuel for the evening trip. I got home and went to sleep. The kids were playing outside (my daughter and niece) all of a sudden, I heard 'psssssssssss' . I was wondering where the sound came from, my neighbour was going out, and I heard him shout 'mummy ****** awon omo yii ma ti Jo gbogbo tyre motor o' (these kids have deflated all the tyres o). I just jumped up, as I got out, the car tyres were flat! Left with one! OMG! I WAS MADDDD! I have never beaten them, but that day, I beat! My daughter was rolling on the floor. I felt for them later but then, I didn't have any extra cash except the 500 for fuel, I had to get to the junction and plead with the vulcanizer to do it on credit. Before I came back, they had slept! I'm sure they would not forget in a hurry! I still love them though!

  73. I was on a 13 hour long international flight with my 2yr old daughter. After hours of entertaining her, eating, fussing, she finally settled in and took a nap. Being exhausted myself, I breathed a sigh of relief and napped off. Somewhere between dreamland and reality, I perceived a pungent odor. So I. Woke up and there was my daughter, stooped on the floor, doing number 2 right by my Chinese neighbor's bag.
So much for sleep on that long flight.

So much that as my parents where discussing I was imagining having one for myself and immediately I noticed razor blade around, I picked it up and started tearing my tommy, it wasn't funny o

I thought if you open your tommy a baby will spring out, thank God my mom saw me and screamed! My eyes where just shinning..lmao

I was rushed to the hospital and till today whenever I see that big mark on my body I shake my head cause right now I can't even watch where someone is being cut or injected and I wonder how I did it to myself when I was little.

  78. Some experiences can be frightening. When my son started crawling, I was super busy. We were home alone this faithful day and when I realized he had left the bedroom I ran around the house looking for him. I couldn't find him in any of the rooms, toilets or kitchen. With the front door locked he couldn't have gone outside so I didn't bother, I went round the whole house the second time and still no sign of him, by this time I was already crying. I decided to go out thru the kitchen door and alert my neighbour and the holy spirit drew my attention to the vegetable compartment plastic of my refrigerator on the floor , I jumped and opened the fridge and there he was sitting inside. I just thank God there wasn't light and he had not run short of oxygen.

  79. hmmmmm Stella my daughter is only a year and a half and she is already so mischievous. Sometimes when am cooking and the whole place is quiet, I have to turn around very fast to see what she is doing and I always catch her doing some sort of mischief. Its either she would have dashed off to the bathroom to tear the toilet rolls into pieces or she she would have opened the lowest drawer to have access to my very important documents. Sometimes I would be very lucky to meet her holding some of these papers because other times, she would have torn some into pieces. She keeps calling her father at work with my phone when am busy and say nothing on the phone, thereby making her dad think that I have been calling to make fun of him. Her dad can call me up to about 6 times inquiring if I called him. I dont keep anything on the floor because as soon as I do so, its party day for her. She will find ways and means to create such a mess that will be to much work for me. And she does all these when am very busy and not looking. That is how the last time I opened a bag of rice, the only thing sitting on the floor within her reach, to fetch some cups of rice and forgot to cover it. I was so engulfed in my cooking that I even forgot to check on her only for me to turn around about 10 minutes later to see about 5 cups of rice on the floor. Omg in fact that one got me pissed that I started screaming on top of my voice and she started crying because she was scared. So the things some of these children can do when they are quiet eh, only God can intervene on time.

N downed more than half a bottle of 501 whisky, she now went to sleep in a heap of clothes in their room. For some reason dad decided to look for her n couldn't find her, we searched the whole house, compound n neighbourhood. When we finally found her she was seeing ghosts n talking gibberish, we just lost our uncle then n she kept saying he was calling her to come join him. My papa thought his daughter was possessed n went to call wholi n pastor living down the street, when their prayer no cast out d spirit of my dead uncle, my dad took her to the hospital. The Dr took one look at her, smelt her breath n said this child is drunk...lol, the following day she received the beating of her life.

  83. Silence is NOT golden, not when you have young kids.
I have a young toddler, and I miss when she couldnt walk LOL I miss being able to sleep in when I want or take my own naps when I want. I miss not being scared every time we are in the bathroom, so I run and cover toilet, in case my phone ends up there.
My last glasses was bent by her (sotey they would fall off every time I put them on), and I just got new ones and got insurance on them.

I miss not having to hide to remove things from the drawers so she doesnt know its there.

My little sister poured water on TV, burned the curtain, crossed road at a young age and so much craziness. We were taught NEVER EVER leave her alone.

The responsibility of raising a child no get part 2 o.

  85. I can't stop laughing... I remembered when we were kids and my younger brother used to suck at his thumb, so a neighbor suggested that my mum should rub pepper on the thumb while he was sleeping, so that if he tries to suck it again the pepperish taste will discourage him from sucking his thumb again. My mum ignored her but me being a 'caring' sister did just that, but unfortunately for me, the first thing he did when he woke up was not to suck his this thumb but to rub his eyes... his scream woke everybody and came and saw me holding the container of pepper and still standing over him... see beating of a lifetime.
Another occasion, we travelled to the village, and there was no light to iron our clothes, so I prepare the local coal iron, after prepping it so that it was hot and ready, I left it to go and get the clothes, then my youngest brother seeing a comfortable seat, came and sat down on the iron... see screaming and commotion, thank God for local herbs, the burns healed without scars...
