Ebola In Port Harcourt And Non Disclosure Of Vital Information‏

A  MUST READ THAT MUST BE READ

Dear Stella,

How are you? I am a regular blog visitor and a big fan.  I have never written you before and I want to remain anonymous. This Ebola Epidemic is very serious and I believe we must all do our own bit to contain this virus. Social media has become a very fast way of passing on information and also an effective/persuasive means of getting our authorities to act. I have contacted you because I know that you have a platform to reach out to as many people as possible.

We all know that the deadly Ebola Virus has been imported into PHC (my city sobs...) because of some ignorant, selfish people. Now even worse off, the people are at more risk because the govt for reasons best know to them (I suspect political etc), have refused to disclose the name of the hotel and diplomat concerned.

Now if vital information like this is withheld from the masses how do they intend to contain the spread of this virus in PHC? We all know that there has been a lot of contact with the supposedly infected persons ( both primary and secondary). This information needs to be passed on so people that have made contact  can come out to get tested and treated.

The names of the hospitals concerned and  the medical doc have been revealed. But why is the name of the hotel and the said diplomat held back? Could this be because it is a  "big men's hotel/even govt owned" or "big man"  respectively. Rumour  has it that the hotel is a government owned hotel and this info is concealed because some political rally is scheduled to hold in PHC next week and they do not need this kind of bad publicity because it is bad for business.  If this is true, then this is sheer wickedness as this hotel is still open and functional. Thereby putting the public at risk.  Like i said it is a rumour and I cannot confirm this. However, our people say there is no smoke without fire.

The bottom line is that we are not well equipped to fight this kind of epidermic head on. We don't even have one vaccine "na beg we dey beg other countries wey get, to help us". Therefore, the best way out of this is to tackle it at the early stages before it spreads like wild fire. For this to happen, our people must be sincere, devoid of any selfish interest, pass on all vital information to the masses and create full awareness. So that people can take precautionary measure to protect themselves and those who have made contact with infected persons can also turn up for testing and treatment.

For goodness sakes this virus is very contagious just by mere contact with an  infected persons body fluid. The earlier we act, the better for us.  We  must show love and be our brothers keeper. Do not hide your family members or friends who you suspect have made contact with infected persons or areas. Report yourself if you are at risk or them as the case maybe, so that you can get help and live....otherwise you will KPAI and others you love who were in  contact with you will follow too suit, except God saves you.

Ebola is so bad in neighbouring african countries because of lack of information and slow action at the very early stages. However, I must commend Lagos state and Federal for their swift action in Lagos. They reduced the Ebola infected cases to only 1, until we got the sad new of PHC. Please Rivers State must act fast because this is no joke and definitely not some political rivalry. We at the break of an epidermic and innocent lives are at stake.

EBOLA IS DEADLY....E NO KNOW WHO BE BIG MAN OR POOR MAN...IT KILLETH ALMOST ALL IN CONTACT EXCEPT GOD DELIVERS YOU....

Thank you for passing this on until it gets to the authorities and something is done....Please i want remain anonymous because i have a bright future by God's grace...This is Nigeria...i no dey for police arrest or torture because I questioned our leaders on some issues.

God bless you.

Kind Regards
*******

  1. ANOTHER MAIL FROM MY INBOX

    Hello, good day ma'am.
I'm a blog visitor and I do hope you can grant my message some audience.

In view of the Ebola outbreak in Port Harcourt, there has been some information given out yet, a lot withheld. For instance Ma'am, we do not know what hotel this diplomat was lodged in. Neither do we know the name of the diplomat. The hospitals have been disclosed, yet the hotel and name of diplomat is shroud in secrecy. Double standards if you ask me.
Frankly, I don't want to know the names of the hotel nor diplomat for fancy sake. But, for security reasons.
We know what hospitals to be ware of due to disclosure but we also require name of the hotel lodged in by diplomat so we keep away and also, so we know that the people diplomat must have come in contact with there (eg, the staff that changed his linen, laundry staff, room service) are quarantined. Also, that hotel most definitely, needs to be on lock down and decontaminated.

I presume it belongs to a VVIP, thus the secrecy.
Kindly use your good office to create awareness on your blog as I know these public figures or their aides read your blog.
Let us nip the Ebola before its tentacles spread further. Thank you for your audience.

Thank you stella, some people just want the name of the diplomat solely to curse him out, but is that truly necessary... primary / secondary contacts don't run away if your in anyway affiliated. if anything can be learnt from the lagos outbreak, the virus can b contained only with full cooperation. Mr diplomat thank u ooo, only God know how he ll met justice out to u

We need to know the name of the hotel.
We also need to know the name and see the picture of the diplomat.
They were quick to show us Patrick Sawyer's pix so why the delay in this one? Is it because he is a Nigerian "big" man?

  11. Hello Stella. I appreciate ur blog n d fact dt ur so concerned abt EBV. But I have to warn u not to give in to this mischevious person or pensons sending u email on how much information to be given out. Trust me, enough is given already n I trust d govt over there will do its best to sentisize d populace.
Why shld d hotel name be mentioned? U want d hotel down? Government has contacted d hotel n all d pple involved in cleaning n stuff while d man was there are currently on watch except for those ones missing. It is unfair to mention d hotel n its not for political reasons. We all known wat happened to the Lagos hospital where d index case was treated.
pls disregard false information cos government is doing a lot n will do.

    2. So people should keep quiet while the hotel is still in business right? So we shouldn't say anything as people troop in to get infected abi? It's bad for business, yes but it's great for the preservation of lives please. For now, the hotel must be shut down and reopened after proper health checks have been carried out.

    3. Anon 6:36PM, abeg shut ur stinking mouth, shut it ds minute. What nonsense are u saying? U well so? I de suspect u. Why shouldn't be hotel be mentioned? D hotel has to be mentioned n shut down. All on duty that day n d days d diplomat was there has to be quarantined. All secondary contacts has to be placed on surveillance. The hotel has to be properly sanitised before it can begin to function again. U think that this is a joking matter? U think d EBV is a sympathiser of persons or status?? Abeg go n sleep. The diplomat's name should be mentioned, his pix on media n the hotel mentioned, that is d right thing to do, so that EBV doesn't spread in port harcourt like what is happening in Liberia.

  15. The things that are permitted to happen in Nigeria...smh! A country that is termed the giant of Africa with very educated and enlightened people and yet they are allowed to be treated by the government like animals! I am disgusted that till now, no one in Port-Harcourt has demanded that the name of the hotel and the diplomat be revealed! The things Nigerians endure from their so-called leaders in this day and age is beyond human comprehension! The people of Port-Harcourt and Nigeria in general should demand these information for God sake! How can you protect yourself from a situation you have no idea of! The last time I checked, Nigeria is a democratic state!

The diplomat used cutleries, beddings/towels, and had his bath. The beddings and towels he used will have been washed with others hereby spreading the virus! What about the cutleries he used? 34. Well I am sure u must be tired of getting mails about this ebola issue especially from people in ph. Honestly we are so scared here in ph bcos ph is one small city but quite populated.
I will like to share an issue with u which I ought to have done long before, I just didn't want to raise alarm.
Early this month I went for my monthly appointment with my physician at a popular private hospital in ph and to my utmost dismay it was business as usual. All the health care givers carried on as if the ebola thing was happening in another planet. The nurses checked vital signs with their bare hands. I complained and people around me where giving me the yimu sign.
When I went in to see the consultant I shared my fears with him and he only wondered with me. He complained of thier I dont care attitude in most private hospitals in ph.
He noted that with the ebola awareness in lag that people may start sneaking into cities like ph for treatment.
At a point he told me that to be honest with me that when ebola finally comes knocking it will be more disastrous than the lagos issue. He then went on to tell me about an encounter he had that week with a doctor friend somewhere in ph who invited him to consult as usual in a private clinic. According to him when he got there he went straight to the sick patient. To cut long story short he was informed by a nurse that the sick patient he came to attend to was an ECOWAS envoy who took ill. Without asking questions he went back to his doctor friend and confronted him for endangering his(the consultant's) life.
The doctor tried to convince him to attend to the patient but he refused and left the hospital. When he saw the look on my face he said he wasn't sure d ECOWAS envoy was an ebola patient but one thing he knows for sure is that when ebola comes to ph it will be terrible.
Now it has finally announced its arrival I just hope the govt will not play politics with our lives. They should send out all the necessary info we need.
They should as a matter of urgency call off the political whatever billed to hold tomorrow at liberation stadium.

If there are no symtoms of ebola beyond this period no more suspection. By 29th, it was clear 24days. By 30th the Rivers state health officials inspected the hotel and staff and found them free. The hotel was cleared free and safe for business. So, as for the hotel, no cause for alarm.
